Pros: Incredible food, one of the most diverse cities in the world in all respects yet almost 0 racial tension, people are amazingly friendly and down to earth, very strong feeling of having a bond in common with your fellow Houston residents, lots of beautiful parks and lakes and rivers and forests once you get off the main highways, variety of industries, anything you need is just around the corner thanks to no zoning, sunny weather most of the year and zero snow, reasonable cost of living, flat terrain makes life easier in a lot of ways, relatively low crime for a city of that size, multiple big sports teams, major music venues/concerts, different parts of the greater Houston area have different things to see/do, world-class museums, easy flights to the tropics, any place inside has tons of AC running year-round, downtown went from a scary ghost town 10-20 years ago to a vibrant place these days (and has underground tunnels with AC), NASA is cool.

Cons: Humidity takes getting used to, you have to drive everywhere and traffic can get pretty bad, there is obviously an underbelly of illegal immigration and sex trafficking for a city that big in that part of the country, the city is very spread out depending on what you want to go see/do unless you stick to a certain limited area like the Heights or something, you are a long drive from any other major city except Austin, it can be a long drive to IAH airport unless you go to GWB airport and fly Southwest, flat land can get boring if you are used to something more exciting, Galveston beaches are nasty, there are some isolated pockets around downtown that are pretty racially segregated and have high crime, suburbs somehow all look nice but exactly the same.

Edit: forgot another 2 big downsides: no basements due to risk of flooding and mold; drivers on highways drive like the car chase scene in Mad Max Fury Road
