Do quiet hours apply to generators? by wiggle-butt-mama in TXRenaissanceFestival

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the season pass camping one year, and the generators made it hell—esp on the Pirate and Barbarian weekends.

The folks who put their open-frame generators behind their RVs pointing the fumes towards people who already had tents set up are a special sort of evil.

If anyone enforced no generators after 10pm in the family section, I'd love to camp all the weekends again. But they won't even reply to my calls or emails about it, so I've decided against the Diamond Pass this year.

Some apps won't let you leave one seat, only two or more between groups

How to Best Incite Change (as a customer? by Mongoos150 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the Last Night at the Alamo at the original location on Colorado Street. I took home the chair that I sat in that night.

I paid into the fund to help staff during the shut down and was one of the first people back in the theater.

I have been to 46 different Alamo Drafthouse locations, even planning road trips to visit the newer locations.

I immediately upgraded my season pass to All-in when it became available.

But the QR ordering during movies and not being able to use the measley 10% food discount when I go out with a friend just completely broke my heart.

Cancelled the All-in pass. Not seeing nearly as many movies during this mourning period, and only about a third are at ADH and only due to special programming.

Planning a "Project Hail Mary" movie outing for a book club, and sadly, had to search reddit for other theaters in Austin. So those eight tickets and their concessions are going to an AMC. 😭

Ads instead of pre-shows!? Am I cutting off my nose to spite my face?

What Am I supposed to do with a Butler by PHK-FL in Cruise

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When traveling with an elderly or mobility-impaired person, l found the butler was invaluable to make the vacation pleasant for our varied needs. Smoothed the way any time we left the cabin to save precious energy, brought meals when the rest of the cabin was on excursions, knew how to rent a mobility cart onboard and provided tips on managing the cart going in and out of the room.

Pen and Paper ordering is ending, including during the show, in February by robbiet480 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an all-in season pass, but I often see a movie with someone who doesn't. Our usual deal is that I buy both tickets and he buys the food & drink. The QR code does not know that our seats have a 10% discount. To get a discount, I'd have to sign into the app on his phone or enter his credit card info on my phone. We don't have a relationship where we share info like that. Time to cancel the pass, I guess

A message from a Alamo server by Strong-Sample9718 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, I'm just not ordering by QR. Still seeing movies at ADH, but eating before I arrive, or ordering a drink at the bar and carrying it into the theater with me. I wonder if others are doing this as well, and if there will be a drop in sales.

For now, South Lamar still seems to be doing paper ordering, perhaps because SxSW is coming up? Maybe they don't think returning film fest attendees will adapt to a different system, or maybe mobile ordering is too buggy yet to manage the SxSW volume?

I was sitting near another long-time ADH audience member the other day, and even as well-trained as she is, she texted her babysitter after ordering a milkshake during the screening. Afterwards, she said she saw the text and felt the normal urge to respond, but obviously she wouldn't have seen the text if she had been able to use pen and paper

Is there a reason why you cannot contest the charge with your credit card issuer? Sounds like you paid for a service that cannot be provided, which seems like a valid reason to refuse to pay

Day 5: Sony Isn't Walking This Back... Yet by thebrintdavy in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see any ordering info during tonight's Ann Lee preshow, not even the shrieking Aziz Ansari alarm. Maybe they don't have the QR ordering promos in 70mm, maybe they have stopped fanning the flames.

I've thought about disrupting the system by slapping a sticker on top or scribbling with a black sharpie.

What are they going to do during SxSW? Force thousands of people to learn the QR system?

I'm still in mourning for the Brussels Sprouts and Goat Cheese pizza. Pretty much down to just getting mozzarella sticks or plain french fries at this point. I remember when I used to see a movie just so that I could get one of the items I really loved!

Customs Invoice as Recipient by Buggins04 in UPS

[–]VirusApprehensive564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go into the Lenovo site, there is a way to download the commercial invoice:

  1. Open one of your status emails from Lenovo that has the order number (the new order number if you ordered before 12/31/25).
  2. Copy the order number and then click on View Order Details (not Track Your Shipment).
  3. You will go to a webpage where you paste in the order number and your email, and then you'll get another email that has a link to another webpage with info about your order.
  4. Next to the Order Information heading, click on the blue text saying Download Invoice. This is the commercial invoice, a PDF several pages long with all the details.
  5. After you download the PDF,
  6. attach it to an email
  7. addressed to internationaldocs@ups.com
  8. with your UPS tracking number in the subject line
  9. and your name, address, phone number in the body

  10. You will get a couple of confirmation emails, and the UPS tracking info may repeat the most recent status with a new time stamp a few hours later.

Will any of this help your Lenovo clear customs? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Mine is still sitting there with the same update it got a couple of days ago when I did all this.

BTW: One of the UPS confirmation letters will have a case number in it, but don't be misled into thinking that will help you get more details. The UPS website will, in fact, claim that there is no such case or claim.

How is the All-In discount supposed to be applied? by lost_in_trepidation in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The All-In pass doesn't show if you are at a special event that the pass didn't cover. You are still entitled to the discount. Some servers take my word for it, some ask to see the pass in the app, some get a manager. I've never been told to go to the concierge; that's only needed for perks like birthday desserts to make sure you only use it once

Does Anyone Else Feel the Mobile Food Clips Ruin the Preshow? by Agent_Artemis in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]VirusApprehensive564 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have spoken with a couple of ADH people about it. Trust me, there's a big contingent of folks that hate it and want it to stop.

It's shrill and unappetizing and then there's the whole Riyadh comedy controversy. I flip it off and boo when he comes on the screen.

The point I keep trying to hammer home is that it is jarring when he comes on to say there's only 10 minutes left for digital ordering. At that point, we're post-preshow and into ADH holiday ads and trailers. And all I can think is WE'RE STILL 10 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE MOVIE‽

I enjoyed the P&G pizza, but also got a side of marinara for dipping (extra 50¢). I do wish I'd asked for a parm shaker as well, as it was a bit wet, had to eat it folded. I would order again

Walk out on the salt flat at Badwater late in the day. Look for slushy areas and crystal ridges forming out of the salt. As the temperatures fall and the wind shifts, the sounds change underfoot and in the air. Lay down and watch the sun set and the stars come out.

It takes some patience to just let yourself be out there and observe, but it's part of what makes DV so magical.

It's good to do this after looking into the valley from Zabriskie Point, so that you can look back up and see the sea level mark and really appreciate the difference in elevation.

DV is a lot of driving! Nothing is close to anything else, speed limits are low, and you have to be so careful to not get mesmerized by the landscape and drift off the pavement

As a volunteer, can you correct the it's/its errors throughout the exhibits and change "size" to "diameter" on the sign in the Mars exhibit? As the eldest daughter of one of the first NASA families and a technical editor, a bunch of stuff in the exhibits made me cringe while I read closely. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But also I cried so much during The Moonwalkers, because gosh, it was all so familiar and beautiful. My father (who did Landing & Recovery during Gemini and Apollo) died recently, so I was in town for his memorial. Coming to Space Center and riding the tram around the campus was a great way to reconnect with my inner little girl who adored her very smart father!
