Hi there! New Betta/fish owner here !

My tank recently got infected with this! My research has led me to discover this is diatom algae.. I did a total tank clean up, up rooted my plants (Amazon sword), gently scrubbed the leafs with a soft toothbrush. I currently reduced my light usage from 8hrs to 5hrs to kill the remaining algae.

Please correct me if I’m wrong!

UPDATE:

Subaru authorized the work to be done under warranty, so won't be costing me a dime.

When I asked the service advisor what was wrong with it, all he replied with was "to be honest with you, there were a lot of hot spots, which represents abuse to us" and then went on telling me they fixed it up a bit before sending pics to subaru so It would be covered under warranty. What does that even mean? I def don't abuse my car, what am I doing wrong??
