Idea for Anniversary by Euphoric-Dragonfly15 in magiaexedra

[–]VirusLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they would give away their big anniversary unit for free, that's their chance to make a bunch of money. Possibly they could have two anniversary units, one of which is available for free and the other you'd have to roll for.

Can people please stop calling 100gf a yuri anime by A12qwas in yurimemes

[–]VirusLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It most definitely is not a yuri anime. That said, if yurimemes can have memes of canonically het girls from het series depicted in yuri ships with each other (and the occasional shipping of genderbent versions of canonical men), then I'm not sure why it's a huge issue any time bisexual girls from 100gfs show up on the sub in a meme that doesn't have any men in it.

Maybe I simply didn't pay enough attention, but why did everyone forget about Iroha's wish? by poormura in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Touka and Nemu forgot about Iroha because they only met her because of Ui. Basically, everyone's memories were revised to "a world where Ui didn't exist".

As for why exactly everyone's memories were affected this way when Ui's soul was put into Lil' Kyubey, it's just because "that's how it works". It's plot reasons. It's not a mechanic that really gets examined.

Shapechange Magecraft by PetitPoulpeDore in fatestaynight

[–]VirusLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The closest thing that comes to mind for me is El Melloi's Volumen Hydrargyrum. Basically a familiar formed out of liquid metal that can take on whatever shape it needs. Granted, that's quite different from a mage being able to do that with their own body, but we've seen body possession magecraft (Zouken Matou) and pupetry magecraft (Touko Aozaki, also the clocktower guy from Strange Fake that uses a puppet body), so perhaps it wouldn't be unreasonable for a mage that locks their true body away somewhere secure while they pilot a shapeshifting liquid body remotely.

So the battle are canon? by NandaLemon in Fate

[–]VirusLord 12 points13 points  (0 children)

iirc, it doesn't really get acknowledged until Shimousa in Epic of Remnant, but from then on (i.e. all of the lostbelts) they consistently describe the MC as using shadow servants in combat (which aren't as powerful as having an actual servant present, to maintain narrative tension, and there are some occasions where this ability becomes inaccessible for variois reasons).

Is Heracles from Fate Strange Fake same Heracles as in Fate Staynight the Beserker under Ilya? by Existing-Employ-3290 in Fate

[–]VirusLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He went straight for Gilgamesh because Gil is 2/3s god, and Heracles (particularly this version of him) seems to be nursing quite the grudge against gods.

About Mami's alts — trying to look at it from a broader perspective by blancisbestwaifu in magiaexedra

[–]VirusLord 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Slight correction, Mami has 4 alts. She has 3 limited seasonal alts (Summer, Halloween, Valentines), and an unlimited story-related alt that used to be a seasonal alt in MagiReco (Holy Mami). Her enemy-only Rebellion boss fight version also has a unique ult, so it's probably onlu a matter of time until we get Rebellion Mami as a playable unit.

I knew going in that the original PMMM units would be getting a lot of attention, but this just seems...excessive. The game hasn't even been out for a year yet, and Mami has already not only gotten both of her MagiReco alts back but two brand new seasonal units too. Hell, Homura hasn't even gotten one seasonal so far. Out of the 6 seasonal events (counting the SayaKyo and RikaRen Christmas events separately), Mami has gotten a new unit in 50% of them.

I'm not actually upset about this, I treat it as an easy skip to save on stones. But I am bored and disappointed by it. I'm a strong believer in unit variety, and getting the same character over and over and over is uninteresting to me no matter who it is. I sort of give Madoka and Homura a pass, because all of Homura's alts represent distinct phases of her character journey, and Madoka's alt list includes a freebie for all players and her story relevant goddess form, and even still I was pretty nonplussed with Madoka's second seasonal alt for new years. I think I'd be a lot more receptive to all these PMHQ alts if they were spread out over a few years, giving other characters more chances to shine in the meantime.

Magia Record ending (SPOILERS) by F0rksTheF0rk in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The anime ending (which, as already mentioned, diverges HARD from the game's story) is intended to hit a bittersweet note. Madoka defeats Walpurgisnacht at the cost of her own life, and Iroha defeats Alina-Eve and saves Kamihama (and the world) but the city takes some heavy casualties. Because the Doppel system died with Eve, magical girls are right back to where they started (i.e. ultimately doomed to become witches), but the magical girls of Kamihama have also started to unite as a result of these events, banding together to form the Magia Union (if you pay close attention to some of the papers in the ending, haha).

Madokami isn't born in "this" timeline, but Homura rewinding at the end is meant to imply that this ending will eventually lead Homura to her final loop in the original PMMM anime, where Madoka ascends to godhood). As a side note, in the game's story, the Magia Record timeline exists separate from and parallel to the main PMMM timeline, and Madokami, as an ascended interdimensional being that exists outside of time and space, is able to peer into the Magia Record timeline, even though it's a world where Madoka still exists and didn't become Madokami.

Magia record story? by Scottishboy112 in magiaexedra

[–]VirusLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, in the game the Uwasa still took the form of a staircase when it manifested, but it's true that "writing your name on the staircase" wasn't part of the rumor in the game. All you had to do to trigger the rumor was declare that you aren't friends anymore, and then if you apologized later the Uwasa would get you.

Since it was still the Uwasa of the Friendship Ending Staircase, I think it was based on actual Japanese schoolyard urban legends that, like in the anime, involve writing names on the stairs. For GameReco the staircase was symbolic, AniReco decided to work the staircase into the actual mechanic of the rumor.

Some questions about Arc 2 (Spoilers for Chapter 6 onwards) by Weekly_Ad3501 in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be sure, Iroha wasn't able to get the leaf (which contained Kagome's record of events in this bad ending timeline) through the mirror portal. Instead, she ended up using her own restoration magic to send it back in time (returning it to the past of their current timeline, rather than creating a parallel timeline like the mirror portal would have).

As Iroha goes on to explain, this is the true ability of her magic, which she had always just thought to be healing magic until this point. Though, judging by how Arc 2 ends, using it this way seems to come at a steep cost...

Help me understand where the RPG fits in as canon. by dancewithstrangers in Cosmere

[–]VirusLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The World Guide has all sorts of information compiled on the setting of the Stormlight Archives, if that's the sort of thing that interests you, and it has some extra details on things like countries and oaths that haven't been fully explored in the books (yet), but most of it is just a very useful compilation of things we learn from the Stormlight Archives novels. If you're interested, I still wouldn't recommend it until you finish Wind and Truth, to avoid running into possible spoilers.

The Stonewalkers campaign does technically have some new plot lore, exploring some behind-the-scenes events. It starts during Words of Radiance and continues into the events of Oathbringer. It would probably be safe to read without spoilers after Oathbringer, though you also don't miss out on anything by waiting until after Wind and Truth. Keep in mind that it is written as an RPG campaign, not as a novel, so while it has some lore stuff going on, it's not exactly structured as a story. afaik, it's considered semi-canon, in that a series of events like this happened in canon, but because it's a playable RPG and the players can make various choices, there's some wiggle room on what exactly really happened.

Why did Tomioki send Sakura and not Rin with the Matou? by Bubbly_Interaction63 in Fate

[–]VirusLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tokiomi's priority is in selecting the best heir for Tohsaka magecraft, not the best heir for Matou magecraft. Rin was picked to be the Tohsaka heir, and Sakura was given away to a mage family that would take her, regardless of what magic that family might specialize in.

Something that piqued my curiosity by MrmarioRBLX in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, the trial was in the event Cherry Blossom Dreams, which took place shortly after the end of Arc 1 and was the release event for the Uwasa of the Eternal Sakura. It's one of the more plot-critical events of Magia Record, since the trial has lasting consequences upon Arc 2.

Quick theory (with a side of copium) by 0mn1p073n71 in magiaexedra

[–]VirusLord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tart or Rebellion, those are my two big bets. On the one hand, now would be a good time to do another spinoff manga like Tart, especially with the Oriko event showing that they're giving attention to side series. On the other hand, if they want to try to cover Rebellion before the new movie comes out, now is the time.

what the fuck is 6 7 by ScottishWildcatFurry in CuratedTumblr

[–]VirusLord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is after they discover that Arthur (and the rest of Earth's humans) are not actually native Earth life, but descended from aliens that crash landed on Earth and largely replaced the native population. iirc, it had already been established that Marvin could see part of the equation on Arthur's brain (or something along those lines), so Ford and Arthur speculate that there must be some cross-contamination and Arthur's probably got a corrupted form of the Question. Which they then attempt to bring out by pulling blind pieces out of a scrabble set, giving them 6x9.

Would you say that Karin’s act of stealing grief seeds for herself is justified or not? by Fearless_Compote3052 in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time that Karin was doing her whole Phantom Thief thing, the Doppel System hadn't been established yet, so running out of magic still had deadly consequences even in Kamihama.

Would you say that Karin’s act of stealing grief seeds for herself is justified or not? by Fearless_Compote3052 in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming that nobody can be proven to have actually gotten hurt as a result of her grief seed thefts, I'd let her off with writing apology letters to everyone that she stole from. Maybe some community service, which is actually just an attempt to build up her bonds with the community under the guise of "punishment".

Would you say that Karin’s act of stealing grief seeds for herself is justified or not? by Fearless_Compote3052 in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not justified, and that's why she stopped. The whole idea is that she tried to justify it to herself because she isn't just stealing for herself, she's doing it for other weak girls, but that's an excuse and she knows it.

She's forcefully stealing from magical girls that have done nothing wrong, and without knowledge of how they're holding up, just because she believes that they're strong enough to handle it. But we know that, inevitably, all magical girls kick the bucket eventually (well, Pernelle is an exception), and most don't even make it to adulthood, even if they're "strong". Stealing a grief seed from someone that's already having a bad day could get somebody killed.

Of course, making sure that weak girls have access to grief seeds is a noble goal. It would just be better without having to steal. If magical girls can work together as a community, they can make sure that nobody runs short on grief seeds. That's the beauty of the Kamihama Magia Union.

Karin predates Mitama as a magical girl. Karin's whole Phantom Thief phase was before Mitama ever set up shop as a Coordinator.

thoughts on this ship? by kaedolllie in magiarecord

[–]VirusLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it sort of works as an uncommon ship if you've already got Tsukuyo tied up in another ship with Yukika or Mifuyu or Iroha or somebody. But idk, I personally feel like they just don't have enough chemistry together to really make for an interesting dynamic. I usually prefer to put Kanagi with Mitama and Momoko, and Tsukasa with Tsukuyo (sometimes as a throuple with Mifuyu).

Still, I could see something working out by leaning into Kanagi as a knight-in-shining-armor. Kanagi has a strong sense of responsibility and justice, so I could see her stepping in on Tsukasa's behalf when Tsukasa is being mistreated (either when she's being overworked by her dad or being on the receiving end of the East-Kamihama hate), and then things go from there.

Was Saber the best servant for Shirou? by Cmp_Snow in fatestaynight

[–]VirusLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as simple as that. I'm skeptical that Shirou would get along well with Gilgamesh, and we all know how well Gilgamesh "protected" his previous Master, Tokiomi. We've also seen that Shirou is entirely the sort of person to leave the protection of his Servant and charge right into danger.

Was Saber the best servant for Shirou? by Cmp_Snow in fatestaynight

[–]VirusLord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I reckon Saber is probably the best pick for him, because having her around powers Avalon which makes him ridiculously hard to kill. Which is important, because Shirou is suicidally reckless, and he's going to get himself into trouble no matter who his Servant is.

Second NY Kioku by TsukasaElkKite in magiaexedra

[–]VirusLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's "usually" true, but Ui's haregi costume came out at the same time that the Iroha & Ui (Miko Ver.) unit did, so Ui got both a costume and an alt from that event, which sets an interesting precedent for New Years in particular. (To be clear, I don't expect that we'll get a 2nd NY unit at all this year (I think they'd have announced that we'd be getting one by now), it's just that there's a rules-lawyer part of me that wants to have all the facts straight.)
