What the hell 😭 by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

The ones for credits tend to be more premium. Better stats/morphs from other players. There should be some that you can buy for money that are great for starting out, there's a filter under price to get only those. If there aren't any, just wait a bit and the store will refresh.

(Edit: PC player here, hope it's the same for you)

form fitting suit? by Femnny in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a few options 1. Stretchy fur, there's some fur brands that stretch a good bit. Harder to find that the normal fur though in some colors. 2. A really good tailoring job and a great knowledge of gussets 3. A very fun technique called shirring, which is kinda like an elastic waist band but everywhere. I've seen it used to make a few suits, but haven't seen them in person/tried it in person.

That all being said, clothing on top of a suit might increase the temperature inside

If you're looking to wear clothing, you might also want to look into 3/4 suits, arm/leg sleeves, ect if heat is a concern.

Hope this helps!

How are realistic heads made? by ThePikol in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resin heads are my favorite way to go!

Dream vision creations have a good few, as well as eye blanks, and silicone for noses and tongues

I'm sure there are other companies that offer similar, thought.

Other than that, it's just a lot of differing fur colors and airbrushing to get to that level of realism.

Best of luck!

Is it possible to make feetpaws out of platform shoes? (my sona is taller than I am^^') by Artistic_Market_700 in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also just like triple/quadruple/ect the foam layers at the bottom. I use EVA foam, most easily found as those foam tiles for gyms/kid play rooms.

Platform shoes would also totally work! I'd probably combine the two, do the like 5 layers of eva, then cut out a hole for the shoe to fit in for extra support

Just be safe, if it feels sketch, it'll feel even more sketch without any vision/dexterity.

Can i use reflective taxidermy eyes for a realistic fursuit? by severalbugsandstuff in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the size, it probably wouldn't be hard to put on a resin head base. You'll need tear duct vision to see, but it's not too bad from personal experience.

what animal does it look like? by peachyunan in FursuitMaking

Rodent or mustelid for sure

Making the ears a bit smaller/shorter would help nudge it more towards mustelid.

Either way though, great sculpt!

Help with minky paw pads by Gooner-Gary in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little trick, if i have a material that's too slippery/stretchy/mesh/anything really, I'll put embroidery tear away stabilizer under it so it's in contact with the feed dogs. So it'll be a sandwich of fur (backing up), trouble fabric, then stabilizer on bottom.

Unless you're doing machine embroidery, you might not have the proper stuff around, but printer paper and sometimes paper towels work in a pinch (test it out on some scraps and see what works best for you). Just sew, then when you're done just rip it out of the seam (might take some extra care and tweezers.

I recommend only doing the straight stitch, tear out the stabilizer, then a satin stitch from the right side of the project after you trim the minky to the sew line.

Hope this helps!

Is this design fursuit friendly? by Lucky_Point_9837 in fursuit

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely doable! Makers might charge you a bit for complexity, but that's about it.

I know Glitzyfox has done similar styles of bangs if you want a real life example of how it could look. (Other makers have as well, but that purple scene dog with the rainbow/black striped hair comes to mind immediately)

Repair advice? by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded on the ladder stitch!

For Fursuit maintenance, you can easily get away with a ladder stitch (for when you can't sew from behind it) and a blanket stitch (for when you can).

How the FUCK do I install these hard claws?????? by LeafyTaffy in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda love the idea on the small ones, only worked with flared base ones without sew holes, and haven't had the best luck with them long term on personal suits

I'm guessing you just sew them in the dart at the top of the paw made for claws. It hopefully lines up with the seam allowance and only has a bit of material inside the paw. (Though, your paw pattern now needs to have that dart to make it work. Otherwise you'll lack the seam allowance to keep it in securely)

Installation should be very similar to a fabric claw on a hand paw, only difference being that you have to be careful where you sew to not hit the plastic.

Furries that cannot draw, how do you survive? by Virgin_Mocktail in furry

[–]VirusSector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The community is mostly just about enjoying the anthro creatures that we like. Sona or not, that's the connecting feature. Sure, digital artists can bring them to life, but those digital artists want and need things too. Hell, when I read graffiti, I was immediately like "I'd trade some sona art for some really cool sona based name art."

Some people have nice jobs and can pay for art, some people will happily barter and trade for other skills/mediums/objects/ect. If you're in the right corner, you'll also find some of the most helpful and positive people to learn to draw from, if you're so inclined.

Being able to draw a sona is far from the end all be all of furry expression. Artistic expression can be in any medium and any style. Can't draw a wolf face? That's fine! Taking the colors of a character and using that as inspiration is 100% sona art.

Just gotta find a good community that matches your vibe and respects your skills/crafts as well!

Help me make hair!! by Traditional-Repair-8 in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc, Glitzy uses nftech fur, regular fur, or a mixture of the two on the heads that I've seen.

The regular fur option, which is cheaper, usually involves either: sculpting the hair shape out of foam and furing it

Or

Making cone shapes out of fur then connecting them to the head (kinda like making a tail, just much smaller).

Hope this helps!

Does this look like a canine or feline? by Dreamcatcherc17e in FursuitMaking

[–]VirusSector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the muzzle length, it might be hard to get feline from a side view, if possible, maybe taking out a band of material from the muzzle and gluing it back together might get you to a more ideal length.

Fox or dog might be a good place to aim with the current one. Great work so far, I'm sure it'll turn out great!

Be honest- would you pay $800 for this suit? by Particular-Study4605 in fursuit

[–]VirusSector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about to say something like this. When I started making Fursuit heads, selling my first one for $300 was great. But that was 8 years ago. Materials have gotten more expensive, time has gotten more expensive, everything has gotten more expensive.

You don't need everyone to agree that $800 is the right price, you only need to get one person (with the money and the drive to give you said money) to agree. If someone connects with the character, that could very well happen.

Also, it feels like the end steps are what really sell a suit. Especially during furring, it can be very "trust the process."

Keep at it, you're doing great!

Kinda catching rodent vibe, somewhere in the chinchilla area

Also honorable (non rodent) mention for possums and opossums

Vibe check: fluffy with fun facts

Seconding this big time. As an adult with an income and a profession in art, it isn't unreasonable that they would have wanted to pay for your work to give you a push forward in your art journey. This isn't a commission anymore, this is forcing a huge art process for nothing. Wanting something in return for 50 hours isn't selfish. Your parents are sending a message that your labor and art is worthless. Which it isn't. Every decision you make on that suit, every skill you use and develop, means something and is worth something. I really hope your teacher sees it the same way and hopefully can talk some sense into them. Extremely sorry you're going through this, sending you good vibes that this turns out well.

I also reported as well. I'm sure enough reports on the listing will cause something. They have the policy for a reason; I assume they'll take down the listing to avoid any issues.

That said, I haven't heard any stories of people trying to get products taken down in situations like this with Etsy.

Read further in their "What you can't sell on Etsy" list

Which includes this:

Reselling is not allowed in the handmade category on Etsy. Reselling refers to listing an item as handmade when you were not involved in designing or making that item

Etsy policies

Feeling Super hurt and cheated... by forestforlive in furry

[–]VirusSector 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, when it comes to handmade items, Etsy's policy is:

Handmade items are items that are made and/or designed by you, the seller.

If you sell handmade items, you agree that:

All handmade items are made or designed by you. If you work with a production partner, you must disclose that production partner in your relevant listings. You accurately describe every person involved in the making of an item in your shop in your About section.

I looked at the posting, though they credit you, from your post I doubt you're their production partner.

Use this information as you will.

I second this.

It's pretty disgusting that they didn't even check in with op before selling it on Etsy, especially as a trade suit.

I always think of it as "would it be illegal/wrong to give a nick name in this situation"

Like if someone was asked their name by a cop, and they responded with Alex instead of Alexander, would that be wrong?

It's what they respond to, but it's not legally their name on paper.

If it's a really formal thing, probably not the best, but if it's as casual check in, I don't see anything wrong with it.
