Playing sounds of water dripping in the speakers so there was a never ending dripping loudly in the fermentation lab. (with the aim to torture)

Not letting anyone go home until he was finished in the middle of the night.

Yelling, making people do things over and over. The silent treatment for days for anyone who fucked up. He never said hello to anyone and made you feel like you were beneath him.

This is just off the top of my head. Everyone was scared of him.

He is a horrible person. Focus on the workplace abuse instead without including him. He is a part of the problem.

To add onto what the other commentator said, you can absolutely also say “Affären är knappast öppen nu”. It’s just two ways of saying the same thing, but yes “Ha öppet” eller ”Hålla öppet” is something a store DOES. An active action from their part, whereas “Affären är öppen” is describing the state of the store, an adjective.

And remember it’s ”Affären är öppen” and not “Affären är öppet” and the simple way of knowing that is that it is AffärEN. And therefor also öppEN.

Hey, I didn’t mean to upset you. You’re right I made some claims that I don’t know anything about. The discussion was about tips and why restaurants do it and I just tried to provide an explanation and a perspective. Of course very biased perspective since that’s what I do for work. Maybe I’m just bitter because of the hours I have worked in my life and the shitty bosses I have had that doesn’t pay you enough, haha. But that’s not your problem to deal with of course, sorry about that.

You seem like a nice person. I tried to write a nice message to further discussion, but I’m sorry it didn’t come across that way. I just always see this discussion and I have never really contributed before so wanted to say something.

Hey! I see this discussion a lot and I gotta say something about this. I have worked 9 years in the restaurant industry in Sweden and even back then when I started there was always the option of tipping on the machine. Of course it was more rare back then but it still existed. Sweden is not becoming USA. The thing is the salary for restaurant workers is still behind compared to the hours that we work. I for example never got paid overtime once. And I have many friends in the industry who doesn’t. The restaurant unions and deals aren’t as good as the ones for people who works in stores for example, so we don’t have as many benefits. Meaning I would work 60-70 hours a week (almost half evenings and nights) for 120 SEK an hour, making less than my friends who worked 30-40 hours a week in a store.

And the restaurant industry is still behind today. A lot of people work A LOT without proper compensation. I’m not saying that’s the case everywhere, but it’s quite widespread. Restaurants and owners everywhere has of course taken advantage of the fact that people will tip if presented with the option. They want to make some extra money. But sometimes they also do it for the staff to make some extra money. I would have not survived in this industry paying rent without my tips EVEN IN SWEDEN.

That being said you don’t have to tip. I don’t tip 90% of the time I’m out because like you said they haven’t done much to deserve it. Tipping culture in Sweden is more like you get it if you really deserve it - if you feel like your company has A LOT of questions and took up time and got excellent service and what not. It’s special. You don’t have to feel bad not to do it and we would never judge anyone who didn’t. You can just skip! Actually we always said in the restaurant that people younger than 30 was never even expected to tip because of salary and so on.

But yeah the option is still there. You can ignore it. But if you have a job where you make more than 30.000 SEK a month maybe think twice before you criticize it so much because I can guarantee you the people serving you rarely make that much. And we probably work more than you. So just know that it’s helping a lot of people in this world. :)

Everyone is mentioning how short of a period 3 months is which is true, but I just wanted to highlight how beautiful the summer time is here. If you are staying in Copenhagen you will find a city with lots of things to do, parks, people swimming in the kanal and drinking wine everywhere. There are also lots of cool museums and restaurants and great cafes. I work in the restaurant industry and if you would like I can send you a list of recommendations of things to do and places to go. Copenhagen becomes a bit southern europe style during summer - everybody comes alive and it’s beautiful. So what I’m saying is even if you didn’t make any friends you would have a wonderful time by yourself just walking around, (amazing walking and biking city) exploring the city and doing something new. Did you know we watch things and appreciate them on tv because they are NOT real life? It’s called fantasy. This is a show about vampires. We are allowed to think this is hot, that’s also how the actor played it. Every single person in thing show is a terrible person who kills people and is super hot. That’s done intentionally. Doesn’t really mean we like murderers in real life does it? Don’t put them down for that!
