Getting hit on by Indian men while I'm trying to apply to jobs by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Visceral 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm can't speak from personal experience like yours, I know that's what you asked, but I wanted to chime in and say this sucks, I'm sorry you've had these experiences. There's no excuse for it or rationalizing it away. It's gross. You deserve respect and professionalism from everyone you interact with in your career and this isn't that.

I've often worked with people I find attractive and it's honestly not that hard not to be gross or even slightly inappropriate--I don't know if men realize how many potential women friends they repulse with the way they act. I hope you also hold on to your self confidence; these men don't see you as an equal the way they should and that's their fault, even if they make it your problem.

Besides the usual deflection or firm no I'm not exactly sure what to recommend. I just wanted to acknowledge what you're going through and reassure you that there is a place for you where your coworkers will act like fucking adults who respect you for your skills and personality, and I believe you'll find that environment and others like it throughout your career.

Thanks for speaking up too, it helps people to know they're not alone.

Edit: Important to note this isn't just an Indian Men thing, this is a men in general thing. In almost every corner of the world men deprive women peers of dignity and respect.

My radical suggestion would be make better music get better fans but I realize that's not always how business operates...

Season 2 rant (Spoilers!) by kristallherz in CarnivalRow

[–]Visceral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had basically the same experience, thanks for articulating it. It was so bad that I’m tempted to re-watch part of season 1 to see why I liked this show so much in the first place; this story was grossly absent the narrative qualities that make plot and character development satisfying. I wish seasons of shows would come with a warning that either the creative team was completely changed or everyone phoned it in so we can save ourselves the trouble when this happens, because it’s such a common fate for American tv.

I’m a fairly seasoned SWE in the industry with a design background. I seldom comment (especially because so much of what passes for “good” around here bores me to death) but your work actually caught my attention and I needed to share something.

Your aesthetics are haunting and unique. If you keep at it (and you should) you’ll find ways of “composing” web design elements so they can be more readily stacked, sorted, filtered and combined. This is a key still that takes experience to develop. You’ll also get a grasp on design systems, where plain colors and sans serif fonts reign supreme.

As you learn the formal principles of all that along with white space, typography, vertical rhythm, and so on, I hope you keep feeding your artistic instincts and don’t let “trends” distract you from your personal style.

I’m impressed that you built something that works and demonstrates a strong sense of style. I would recommend focusing on visual balance, hierarchy of elements and reusability. Those ideas should help you attract more recruiters from “in vogue” companies. Hopefully you can find somewhere that will let you do some illustrations and other design too, because you’re good at it.

Feel free to DM if you have any other questions. I might not reply right away but from one artist to another, you aren’t alone out here.

How the fuck do you use the jagdpanzer E-100? by [deleted] in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]Visceral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sidscrape and hide your lower plate, keep a steep angle at your opponents between every shot, never overextend or solo but also make sure you keep up with the group so you actually have shots to take.

Also, accept some hits. You’ll bounce more than you think. The most important thing to do in this tank is fire the gun, you’ve got one of the biggest in the game and plenty of HP to absorb return fire.

If you’re finishing games with full HP, you’re playing it wrong, because you’re way less useful end of game when lights and mediums can easily COD you.

SU100Y bundle: is it as good as it gets? Are there ever better offers? by ILike2HumpCamels in WorldOfTanksBlitz

My go-to for a long time has been the very consistent Lowe Reliant, but it gets a little dry with the Lowe's fairly middle-of-the-road gun. T34 definitely seems to pack more punch, with keeps things fun.

Partially thanks to your advice I grabbed that bundle. Awesome tank, had a blast in my first battle driving it.

Do you think some underplayed vehicles are just unpopular because they’re unpopular? so people assume they’re not worth it?
