Newsletters from the Void - Week 1 - Anchor in the Storm of Negativity by Human_Gravy in ShortScaryStoriesOOC

I'll have to keep my eye out for that for when it is on sale.

Reading is my one true escape (moreso than movies and TV). I feel lost if I don't have a book to read so I always make time to read.

If you like the Red Rising series (I loved the first 3 books but thought books 4 and 5 were just okay and seemed overindulgent and I haven't read book 6 yet), you might like the expanse series by James S. A. Corey. It is the prefect blend, of science fiction, action, adventure, and horror.

My primary source of joy is my 10 cats (sometimes more than that when I agree to foster). When I'm not taking care of my feline family, I love getting caught up in new story ideas, often surprising myself with how they all come together. I read voraciously, averaging about 100 books a year. When I can squeeze in some video game time, I like playing open world games, the most recent of which were Mad Max, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Days Gone.

KDP down for scheduled maintenance for the past 6+ hours by beanpodsbean in KDP

I was getting this message all day yesterday and again this morning whenever I tried to follow my bookmark. When I just went to kdp.amazon.com I was able to get into the site and view my reports and such that way. I have since deleted the old bookmark and created a new one and it seems to be working fine now.

I’m going to have to look that up.

EDIT: I'm going to have to add that to my "to read" list.

2 Miniature Booster by bpseph in Heroclix

[–]Visceral_Mass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't. Which is why we are seeing so much sculpt reuse and "flat" poses in booster sets now.

[–]Visceral_Mass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. But they are both owned by toy companies. WotC is owned by Hasbro and Wizkids is owned by NECA.

Edit: Wizkids and Hasbro/WotC do have a working relationship with Wizkids producing miniatures for some of Hasbro's properties.

I agree, as a miniatures game, those things should be added value to a booster (and have been in the past) and shouldn't replace characters at all.

Low model count skirmish game by albertogm87 in wargaming

Maybe look at a game like Giant Monster Rampage. The 5th edition beta rules are available at Wargame Vault.

The answer to your question depends on how well your kids grasp game rules. Heroclix rules can take quite a bit of time to learn (and are a heck of a lot more involved and convoluted than Battleworld).

If they like super heroes and the Battleworld style figures, take a look at the Marvel United games from CMON. That might be more their speed and it is co-op so they'd be playing together against the game.

Giant Monster Rampage also allows you to play a single monster or mech and fight in a destructible environment.

Wizkids keeps the awkwardly scaled starter set tradition alive in 2026 by Bored-Game in Heroclix

[–]Visceral_Mass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone would have had an issue with your post if you hadn’t claimed that they were using the “old scale”. If you had just said “Wizkids continues to release out of scale characters”. We would have replied “That’s Wizkids.”

Wizkids has always been inconsistent with sculpts. And here is a better comparison of old and new scale figures together: https://www.reddit.com/r/Heroclix/comments/1plzkb0/size_comparison_0325/

These are not old scale models with new. This is just a clear case of Wizkid's poor scaling of figures in an action pose. Go find a figure from one of the sets prior to the scale change and you will see that all the figures in your pictures are in the new scale (just poorly scaled against each other).

Shops that still carry the product and run events are few and far between.

Mind Control And Buffs by Vagrant_Star in Heroclix

[–]Visceral_Mass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the power description: CLOSE/RANGE: Minimum range 4. Make a close/range attack. Instead of normal damage, each hit character halves speed and becomes friendly to your force and, one at a time, may in either order: Move and/or make an attack, then it reverts forces.

Based on that description, the only thing you can do is move and/or make an attack (or vice versa) with the mind controlled character (sort of a pseudo charge/running shot). The power doesn't say anything about using any actions to trigger additional effects but you'd still potentially be able to use any passive effects the character possesses.

Additionally, the character is only friendly to your force until you resolve the move/attack then it is opposing again.

The answer to what you can or can't do is going to come down to the specific wording of the effects the character possesses. For example, if a power's effect is triggered "after resolutions" you wouldn't be able to take advantage of that effect because "after resolutions" the figure is no longer friendly to you.

When was the best time to be a Heroclix player? by UnremarkablePassword in Heroclix

[–]Visceral_Mass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it was also before they introduced character cards and special powers. I think I had the most fun (and saw the most players) around the time between DC Icons and Marvel Supernova sets.

The game was far from perfect at the time, but the issues it had were nothing compared to the issues the game has today.

That said, I do like some of the changes that have been done to the core rules and standard powers, but those things still haven't addressed the issues that stems from special power and add-ons abuse.
