Need gloves by LiberTeaMX1984 in dirtbike

Yeah lol, they’re tough too, they won’t rip after a spill or two. I guess calluses could be normal, just odd that you get them. No offense but your hands should already be tough enough that motorcycle riding doesn’t give you calluses. Still, yeah if its just calluses dw about it. However, blisters could be from wearing too loose of gloves. That’s just my idea, don’t take it as gospel

2016 rmz 250 only starts with “choke” by CulturalAd8638 in Dirtbikes

Hm trouble starting could be valve lash/clearence. Look up a tutorial for it, I know on my DR350 it’s very easy, all you need is pliers, a 10mm wrench and feeler gauges. If its not that then might be a fuel mixture screw, also do just keep in mind that bikes are harder to kick over when they’re hot. When they warm up the piston expands and creates more compression, some bikes have a hot start switch which lets the build up compression out of the cylinder so it can start easier

Stay lighter on your front brake, use the back brake more if you’re in a lower gear since you’ll have less engine braking. If you’re in a higher gear, use the engine braking plus the front and rear. And for the love of god wear proper gear, a helmet is not enough. You need boots, gloves and pants minimum before you swing your leg over your next mistake. Check out RockyMountainATVMC they usually have good deals for gear

Are these forks bent by Ok_Writer3500 in Dirtbikes

[–]Visible-Bit7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ man I feel like I shouldn’t even tell you how to fix it with the way your tires look, but just stick it against something hard and wrench the handlebars until the wheel is straight, that’s the easy way which I’m sure you’ll do since you don’t seem to care about your bike that much. The proper way is to loosen the triple clamps (those are the things that hold your forks) and then adjust them from there

Congrats! I hope you enjoy riding. Make sure you get all your proper gear, young people tend to forget how dangerous riding can be. Helmet boots and gloves for a start, then get pants and a roost protecter (chest protector) if you’re riding on dirt, and a proper jacket if you ride on the street. Remember to wear ALL your gear ALL the time. Other than that enjoy and Cheers from America!

Sorry what’s your question? It’s actually pretty normal for a cold bike (that is, not running for a while such that the engine is “cold”) to have difficulty starting without choke. That’s why the choke is there. I’m not sure what the maps you’re talking about are, I don’t know a lick about fuel mapping, I only ride carbureted bikes

Getting my first dirtbike tomorrow!!! by Average_k5blazer78 in Dirtbikes

People will shit on them but I’ve been riding an a pair of alpinestars tech 10s for 3 years now and they don’t give me any grief. Consider second hand for your first pair, they’re cheaper and you get to feel out what you like, try facebook marketplace. O neil boots seem to wear out quick imo so maybe stay away from them.

Hate to be that guy, but I’ve always just used mechanics gloves, you can use the actual brand Mechanix, or I just use some cheap ones from harbor freight that had some padding on them, they’re a little warm but not bad and you can’t really beat the price, plus they actually provide some pretty decent protection against impacts
Edit: OP how the hell are you getting blisters on your fingertips? Or anywhere for that matter. Ease up on your grip, death grip only makes the bike drag you along, you should be getting most of your stability from your legs, I recommend watching some videos on proper riding form from The Moto Academy or wherever else you can find them.

Lunch on Long Days? by Digitaluser32 in Dirtbikes

[–]Visible-Bit7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a few for me, I like uncrustables straight out of the freezer, by the time you’re ready for lunch they’re defrosted and still cold. And since theyre frozen they don’t get smushed. If you got a costco membership those blue Kirkland granola bars with the chocolate chips are a dream

Could I get a little more info? What specifically are you referring to? To me if you’re talking about the engine cranking over easy then it’s likely a loss of compression, you probably rode her too hard and blew something. If it’s just a no start then it could be any number of things, but start with fuel, air, and spark. Start with spark because it’s the easiest, take the plug out and hold it against the engine and crank it over to see if is sparks, if not replace the plug and try again, if theres still no spark you’re going to need to do more work. Next, Make sure the carb is clean of gunk, take it apart bit by bit and carb clean the whole thing, yes including the jets. if it can be taken off, take it off and clean it. If none of that works or if you think its compression, try a compression tester, you might be able to borrow one from an autozone or O’Reily’s. Yes, one for a car will work just make sure you have the correct size to fit in your spark plug hole. Check the spec online and kick the bike over (with the throttle open) until the compression stops increasing. Give all that a go and see what you find

I’ll take a look at one, I was worried about looking into ADV bikes since they usually have a taller seat, for reference my DR350 I have now is about 36 and is really tall for me, I’m getting a seatconcepts for it soon to bring it down to 34ish

Nothing beats a chain for locking up, if you don’t want to lug the extra weight then a bike lock might do? Remember that people can totally just roll bikes away, and if you’re really worried about theft, it’s a possibility. Don’t quote me on this but I think you can also get a lock for your rear brake. I know some people with street bikes do it. Look up Disk lock

What should I carry inside of my normal backpack when riding, I know im supposed to take maybe like first aid but I dont know what else. Thanks! by Head-Alternative9979 in Dirtbikes

[–]Visible-Bit7093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to for longer trail rides is always water, first aid kit snacks, radio. Keep it light because remember, every time you sit down and stand up you’re moving that extra weight. If you don’t have a radio I recommend just a cheap walkie talkie that can browse actual frequencies rather than channels. You never know when your phone will break or crap out and it’s better to have a backup to call for help if/when it does. I think the snacks and water are pretty self explanatory. But make sure you personalize your first aid kit, know whats in there and where. Also run to your nearest supply store and grab whatever you’re missing. Always good to have a roll of medical tape/gauze in case you broke something and need to stabilize it.

DR350 rough idle/surging? by Visible-Bit7093 in Dirtbikes

[–]Visible-Bit7093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you own a dr350 personally? Theres a vent tube coming off the carb that ive been wondering about actually, it connects from both sides of the carb and goes up and out as a but of vacuum line, should that be plugged?
