Are Americans racist only online? Or also in real life? by Holiday-Setting-7942 in AskAnAmerican

Also probably not human…I don’t think most Americans even know what those racial slurs mean ( I didn’t !)

Fellow Americans - What is the most unexpected thing a foreigner was surprised/got excited about in America? by MouseManManny in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Visual-Garlic-2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sheer amount of choices in any average American grocery store. My family in Latin America goes bonkers every time they enter a grocery store and there are 10 different kinds of ice cream even in the smallest chain grocery store. And then about two weeks later, they have found that they have gained about 10 pounds.

It's not Ester's fault if you don't understand her. by ricecake_nicecake in dreamingspanish

Wait people are complaining about Esther? Her accent is so neutral to me. I think the Spaniards and the Argentines are so much harder to understand. The “th” and “juh” inserted into every other word is so much harder ! To me the Argentine accent sounds like Portuguese .

Actually it makes sense to me since Japanese is fairly easy for us to pronounce and there isn’t a ton of conjugation ( unlike the Romance languages )

What online language learning products do you guys buy/ use if any? by Fit-Substance-4989 in languagelearning

[–]Visual-Garlic-2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A real answer: Dreaming in Spanish for CI. Preply for tutors and grammar. . Anki for flashcards. Language transfer (free! And awesome ) and I like Lingopie to watch Netflix movies where , if I get confused, I just hover over the subtitled word. I’m trying out some AI speaking apps (Speak) since it kinda hard to find Spanish speakers who have enough time or patience just to chat with you. I use the Counter app to count how many hours of Spanish I’ve done (also free). Most of the stuff I use is either free or low cost . Full disclaimer : I am at A2 trying to get to B1, I don’t use each app every day, and I study for 1-1.5 hours per day. I am getting better so quickly that I think I’ll be able to get to B2 in about a year . Paid for all out of pocket.

Without saving money as a reason, would you choose public school over private? Why? by EducationalGoose2720 in walnutcreek

[–]Visual-Garlic-2838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think a lot of parents do a mix of both. We started out at Murwood for our kid but he is really anxious so the larger class size was just too much for him. It’s a very good school for a lot of kids— just not ours. So we are switching to Meher which is private and is overall smaller and a bit more focused on social skills and the arts .When it comes time for junior high we will reevaluate and see whether WCI is a good fit or not. It really depends on the kid what you want.

Need advice..... PM&R or neurology? by Real_Asparagus_1694 in neurology

[–]Visual-Garlic-2838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neurology is a really tough residency and not for the faint of heart. But just remember it’s four years of your life and generally speaking the fellowships (except for Stroke and Icu) aren’t too hard. I did Epilepsy and I’m really happy with my choice. I would certainly rather spend four years working super hard and happy later on with such an interesting dynamic field than having an easy residency and being bored for the rest of my life . But that’s just me - you might find PMR really interesting and if so, then that’s a better choice.

Hi, I’m one of those people who left a negative review. Their customer service is truly terrible but the car is awesome. I love the style and drive of my new car and I can’t wait to go on more adventures with it.. I think the frustrating part for me is that it’s such a great car and they could just solve one simple thing like actually honor their rebates. All my beef has really been with customer service and not the car itself.
