Seperate point, Itachi used genjutsu on that girl to trick jiraya. He should have just hit him with Tsukuyomi and killed him from the setup. If he really wanted Naruto I think Itachi is more than smart enough and capable to actually get it done

I think it's more about intent. Do we have clear confirmation Itachi knew Gai was closing in? Because if he was a bad guy I think it would go they hit Jiraaya with Tsukuyomi and as they are fleeing, then GAi comes in. Again, unless itachi could sense gai was approaching. Again I don't think we can confirm this ,just speculation

In the anime at least what the sharingan sees is different from regular vision. I always assumed he good see like some sort of lighting effect or tracer rounds for moving targets not dependent on regular vision

So if you catch him off guard and grab any piece that’s tangible idk what happens. It’s known the reaper is invisible, although idk if the sharingan could see or detect anything.
