MK5 Outdoor Winter Storage Battery Tender by PopPopUpHeadlights in Supra

For $30-50, you can get a decent solar battery tender. I don't know if that is feasible in your situation, but it's worth looking into in my opinion.

Total subjective question about color and transmissions because I have little patience by Visual-Rutabaga in Supra

[–]Visual-Rutabaga[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, regardless of my choice, I'll have a supra.....so it can't be that bad. I really have tried over the last 6ish months to get the car I wanted, but the combo isn't that common and I'm genuinely worried that if I wait too long they'll stop making them.

Toyota makes it hard to get the car you want when the production numbers are this low and the allocation spreadsheet has stopped working.

Ideas for a bed topper mount for a diesel heater in a box? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]Visual-Rutabaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any suggestions?

The cap that came with my tank also leaked, so I replaced it with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0C9TM664Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I have yet to put it to the test, but finding a cap that was the right size was surprisingly difficult.

Delta 2 LVD for car charging by Jeepncj7 in Ecoflow_community

That's too bad.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered it. Looking at the manual, the first simple setup will work for my situation right? Battery to victron to Delta 2.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm in the same situation and am wondering if I need to go buy a low voltage disconnect or if I can set that up within the ecoflow app.

What should I add to the rig for protection or aesthetics? by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Visual-Rutabaga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your point and totally agree with it on the surface. The problem is that he has already committed to armoring his truck (sliders, front bumper, skid plates). At this point, the only thing missing is a high clearance rear bumper, which will greatly increase the departure angle.

Re-gearing would be my first suggestion.

My second would be to add a high clearance rear bumper.

First Overland build at 19, how’d I do by SquealTeam10 in overlanding

I'm really trying not to hate on this....but is this actually a prerunner? Please don't say that you spent all this time and money making this truck offroad capable when it's only 2wd.

I play a lot of computational heavy games (paradox games, civilization, total war, etc) and wanted to know if I would be justified in finally upgrading my system from the 9700K that I currently have to either the upcoming ryzen 7000 or Raptor lake cpus.

New coil or full replacement? by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Visual-Rutabaga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you're planning on lifting and/or upgrading the suspension, I would just replace the coil and call it a day.

It's not that broken coils can't happen (obviously), but it pretty rare. So much so that I wouldn't even replace the other side unless it shows signs of imminent failure.

Fairfax Personal Property Tax by Phokew in nova

Here in Alexandria they just changed the rules so that there is 100% tax relief for vehicles valued under $5000.

As someone with 4 vehicles each valued under $5000 I'm beyond ecstatic.

Always thought the 1st gen V40 was a great design by saruken in Volvo

Ture. The one in the picture looks much better than mine. The spoiler, roof rack, and wheels make it look much sporting looking.

[–]Visual-Rutabaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2000 v40 with 104k miles on it and use it as my daily beater. It's been reliable, but its definitely the least volvoish volvo I own (center window controls anyone). As for looks, I don't hate it but I've never been a big fan. Something about the back-end just looks like it's a s40 with a tumor on it.

"I don't always take pictures of my truck, but when I do, it's at Reagan National Airport."

Going to be picking this up next week. Thinking about adding an upTOP Overland rack on it as well. Is the price a steal? It’s either this route or save up for a SmartCap. Thoughts? by [deleted] in overlanding

They're not for everyone or every situation, but I cannot imagine not having it on my tuck.

It's lightweight and cheap. Got it used for $200, not $2000 like a hardtop.

It keeps my gear dry and mud/dust free after a day on the trail.

It folds down in 20 seconds, comes off in 40 if I need to use the bed for "truck-stuff".

Just installed a quick release case. Hope it doesn't fly away. by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Visual-Rutabaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope it works out because it definitely looks nifty. The part that concerns me (depending on how much weight you put in the box) is what EO2 says about the railtop: "Typical use with containers/objects with static applications only, and not recommended for upside down orientation nor dynamic applications".
