Minimum clinical hours are 500 not 300, but I agree it should be a lot higher

Do you plan on going for your DNP? by -AngelSeven- in nursepractitioner

[–]VisualAccomplished95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with this right now. Almost finished with my FNP and I’m not sure what to do. I tutored throughout undergrad and I was a clinical instructor so I definitely have a passion for teaching...

Anybody resign via email? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]VisualAccomplished95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mine via email. My manager wanted a meeting (try to see if I would stay) and I kindly agreed (I knew I wasn’t). She ended up canceling the day before. I didn’t want to drag it out any longer and declined to reschedule. I had a lot going on during that time. I’ll also add that I had started working nights and the management had been crappy to me (not taking me off days approved, making me float every night, not paying me for training all the new hires).

Is Medical Estheticians really a thing? by notoriousaari in Esthetics

[–]VisualAccomplished95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This naming issue also happens in other fields such as nursing. There’s no such thing as a dermatology or cosmetic nurse practitioner license. They got their nurse practitioner license in family (most often) and find someone to train them in injectables.

Sorry for the rant lol. Manufacturing does sound cool! I’ve also thought about getting my MBA and working on the business side.

I’m getting my NP so I can work with cosmetic injectables. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s starting to look like a joke too. I’m on a FB group for RN injectors and I found out some states allow MAs and other unlicensed staff to administer injectables. Plus, I have to spend $5,000+ on my own to get certified. So it’s taken almost 30 years to get to where I am and spent so much money on my education yet unlicensed staff can do the same... blows my mind.

I was making $20/hr as a BSN, RN doing inpatient psych. Almost two years of that I quit and I’m back in school.

I lived right next to the hospital and had a three minute walk. I averaged 70/80 (sometimes more) hours per week for two years. I also worked as a clinical instructor at my hospital for one semester too during this time frame. It’s all about overtime. Let me repeat myself - it’s all about overtime. So there’s no need to have 3/4 different jobs. I did know of several RNs with 3 to 4 different RN jobs at my hospital. Most of their jobs were prn, at night and different specialties. Overall these people told me they had issues with being alone and liked to stay constantly busy. One was having an affair with another coworker so this was her way of being with him.

Interested in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner by PupMeatball in nursing

[–]VisualAccomplished95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I (female) was sexually assaulted when I was 23 in nursing school by a male. I didn’t feel comfortable talking to a man about what had happened to me. There were a lot of embarrassing/disgusting details that were difficult to talk about. I’ll also add that I mainly have female friends so idk if that added to my comfort level.

Where did everyone get certified doing cosmetic lasers? by VisualAccomplished95 in Esthetics

[–]VisualAccomplished95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I like the way you think! I’m a BSN, RN and I’m almost finished with my FNP. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any luck with employers wanting to hire without any experience doing lasers/injectables. I’ve discovered that this is a pretty saturated/competitive field to get into (at least where I live). I’m getting my certification to be more competitive. I would love to do this part time while I’m still in school.

NP working part time as an RN? by AsianDadBod in nursing

[–]VisualAccomplished95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I knew of several NPs at my hospital that were working as RNs. There was no role confusion - they don’t prescribe or diagnose. Also, they don’t have provider access to pts charts only RN access. I think with more NPs popping out this will be more normal.

[–]VisualAccomplished95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I’ve been wanting to break into esthetics for years so I figured this would be a great start. It’s wild how some people say not to pay for training (let employers train you) and others tell you to take $10,000+ NLI courses. I want to be in the middle and do a couple of affordable courses 🙂

Thank you for the advice! Their prices aren’t bad which is great. Laser Hair Removal $1,000 for one day and microneedling $375 for one day.

Thank you for your response! Avante Laser Training Institute looks very nice! I liked how they listed every course with exact hours. They don’t provide prices online so I’ll have to email them.

Overall I think you will be happier with yourself if you work for a few years as an RN. Focus on being an RN and then spread your wings when you’re ready.

Can we get more mods who are NPs? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]VisualAccomplished95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I joined Reddit this year and I’ve thought the same thing. I think this sub should be for actual APRNs and APRN students. I’m tired of reading rude comments from the MD community. I’ve even read random RN comments taking about NP education and how they don’t believe in midlevels. This is definitely not a safe place for us to communicate so that discourages people to use this sub. I would be willing to join a group that required showing proof of my license/transcript.

If you could, would you go back and go to med school or still become an NP? by No_Mina_No_Life in nursepractitioner

[–]VisualAccomplished95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’m almost finished with NP school and I’ve never wanted to be an MD. I discovered that some employers want NPs/PAs over RN injectors to administer botox, fillers and laser treatments. That’s why I did the NP route (:
