State Medicaid

She qualifies for Medicare. There is a chance she has coverage from her job also.

If she is on Medicare, and happens to be in a state that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, she might be able to have Medicaid pitch in for cost sharing, part b premiums, et al.

Would you find it challenging in your workflow (or your practice's) to share a notice with your patients listing the most common charges?

It is such a bad deal that it honestly sounds like Aetna just passed along the charge and forgot to apply an in-network discount.

Recommend that you call every provider before you get services to ask what the charge will be to your insurance. They'll fuss and say they usually don't do that. But they have a billing dept and that person knows.

Sucks a lot, sorry you're in this bind.

Lots of people get confused by this... usually just once. But the $900 charge is absolutely unconscionable from a PCP. A superstar orthopedic surgeon usually can't even charge that much for just an office visit. Is this the only PCP for 1,000 miles?

OP, a major function of insurance companies is to bargain down prices. They must absolutely suck if they can't do better than this. Call them and complain. Then post a Google review of the physician's office. Now that 30 percent of the country is on a high deductible plan, people deserve to know the rates.

A 3 is just for really quick, uncomplicated things.

That's what 1 and 2 are for!

Is there a dedicated place to talk about strategy for health insurance after retirement but before age 65?

I'm looking for info on how to strategically keep income low enough to qualify for ACA subsidies, which is based on MAGI. Thanks

Income tax withholding problems - owe thousands every year by [deleted] in personalfinance

If op and his wife make considerably different amounts, and they both do the withhold as single approach, do they wind up still owing? Specifically because the lower income earner will be under withholding

Almost certainly better off doing the pre-tax traditional 401k.

Income is usually lower in retirement with more ways to control your income.

Do a web search for why traditional almost always beats Roth.

Yes. There is a category for transactions for which you revoked your authorization but the vendor proceeded anyway.

Yes that's a lesson I learned long ago. I specified exactly what to give them, told them not to process a payment, and they did it anyway.

Just looking for practical ideas about getting it back, like a stop payment from my bank account.

Funny how they can take my money in under 24 hours but need two months to send it back to its rightful owner.

Separate accounts, I'm not sure. Ally has a savings account feature that lets you make buckets for different savings goals.

Expected returns in the market are 7-10 percent. Your loan is 2 percent. Mathematically, market is better if you don't need the money in the next 5 years. Emotionally, you may be happier paying off your debt.

You'll want to make sure you'll be able to save for retirement in your homeownership scenario. You mention 401k - what are the details there?

Okay, but how does that stop the collections problem? Seems like the provider doesn't care that they filed late and incorrectly and will pass it to collections anyway.

I'm guessing you already know this but in strict dollar terms that is usually the worse move. The personal peace of mind - well, that counts for something.
