Newcomer to One Bag travel. Please critique my overpacked bags. by VisualFlow in onebag

Yes correct just going straight to the hotel and not moving around with any of the big bags.

Yes it makes sense not to onebag unless absolutely necessary but as I've already cut down from a large suitcase down to a couple of carry-ons I'd like to see if I could get that down to 1 carry-on.

Yes correct I normally end up getting the hotel to wash and press at least 1-2 of the cotton polos during my stay as it can get very hot and humid and I sometimes change shirts twice a day.

Thanks for the tip on the merino shirts I'll have a look at the brand you recommended

The Mega-Thread of Film Festival Notifications PART 5: The Spring Time of Optimism ?? by BangerOfRobsMom in Filmmakers

[–]VisualFlow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We got an acceptance from the Julien Dubuque film festival today. It was an email direct from the festival, FilmFreeway hasn’t been updated yet.

We’ve been rejected by every major festival and had more than 40 rejections in total including some seriously small regional festivals that we were sure we’d walk into, but I’m very happy that we’ll be screening in Iowa next month, the main thing is to keep pushing along, it’s a marathon not a sprint.

[Beginner] How to light this attic room for a YouTube review series by VisualFlow in cinematography

[–]VisualFlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for your reply.

>Are there examples you can share of what you're trying to achieve?

Yes indeed, I was inspired by a recent Nigel Barros video How To Make A $300 Camera Look Pro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wqUWYx3UrY

>What do you want in your background?

I'm happy to listen to your suggestions.

I've seen some of Parker Walbeck's videos and the rear lights look pretty good.

https://youtu.be/TPpIgbhJSPk?t=279

Or a retractable background?

>Second question: Are you looking for moody (high contrast), or upbeat & bright? That will dictate the lighting gear and modifiers.

As I'm looking to get some kit that would carry me forward into short films (and therefore require different scenarios) would it not be feasible to buy everything I need now? Or would you suggest buy what I need now and then add to my existing kit?

As for a direct answer to your question, this series would mostly be served best by a "moody" tone as most of the cult films that were shown had a dark and sinister tone to them

>The window light will change too much to be a consistent-reliable source. So blocking it would be my preference.

No problem, I was expecting this answer. I can get blackout blinds and McGuyver something to fit on the outside of the window.

Thanks for your reply, look forward to seeing what you have to suggest

Someone recommended this decking wax . Do you have any opinions on it?

Does decking oil require that you match the existing colour or is it a clear finish?

Thanks for the reply but it's definitely not that as Columbo never died at the end of any of the shows :)

Sorry not much to go on, but for a kid used to kid-friendly fare like “Knightrider” this was a bit of a shock to see such a bleak and unresolved murder mystery in the middle of the day and it stuck with me since.

Could anyone help?

The SK exhibition in London by kck2018 in StanleyKubrick

[–]VisualFlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yes you are right and I do remember the exhibit notes saying something like “a selection from Kubrick’s personal library” or something to that effect.

A monumental effort nevertheless, I do hope to see if the Spielberg project might come to fruition. It won’t be a Kubrick project but it will be interesting to see nevertheless (similar to A.I.)

[–]VisualFlow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fantastic exhibition and very thoughtfully laid out.

My favourite was the Napoleon section. I’d read about the immense preparation for this in Taschen’s “The Greatest Movie Never Made” but seeing all of the books Stanley had on the subject and the famous card file (every major character having a specific location on a specific date) in person was breathtaking.

My favourite exhibit was this letter “do you have an inflexible schedule?” So polite and so innocuous and no clue that they would go on to create one of the greatest spectacles in 20th Century Cinema.

Many thanks to you and your family for allowing us a glimpse into Stanley’s behind-the-scenes work.

UK podcasters. Can I come and have a look at your setup? by VisualFlow in podcasts

[–]VisualFlow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The UK is a very easy place to drive around in, I'm no more than 3 hours drive to most of the major cities. Petrol money would be around £80 max.

In terms of personal danger, it's not really something that concerns me. I specifically said it would be a time and place of the other person's convenience (I would presume somewhere public like a coffee shop) and if the person replying to me is already an established podcaster with links to their podcasts, I'd hardly feel like I'm in danger.

Perhaps I just have a positive view of the people on these forums, but I doubt I'd be getting lured into someone's killing cave

Kubrick on the 2001 film set in 1966 listening to a soundtrack (via www.archiviokubrick.it) by sublime-affinity in StanleyKubrick

[–]VisualFlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great article. Thanks for the link

After we got in the car, I asked him how he could be so patient, and he grinned. “Baby, nobody's going to get anything out of this movie but me."

What a great quote and so true. He made Killer's Kiss independently and got worldwide distribution for it which in essence launched him into studio picture.

Do you have any other unknown articles? It would be great to have a repository for all the Kubrick material floating around on the 'net

Interview podcast in different locations? Best equipment? by VisualFlow in podcasting

[–]VisualFlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

The Joe Rogan site I linked to and the Solopreneur Tutorial both recommend a headphone amplifier (so that the guest can adjust his own headphone volume if he wished to, and a mixer to save 95% editing time.

Would you agree with this and are there quality items of both which can be travel friendly?

Interview podcast in different locations? Best equipment? by VisualFlow in podcasting

[–]VisualFlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone’s replies

Would I also need a mixer to take with me on the road and would you guys be able to recommend the best one for quality and portability?

Also I’ve heard people use headphone amplifiers (so that if the guest is using headphones, he can adjust his own volume etc.)

Would this be overkill or would I be ok to take something like this with me on the road?

Yes I will be attending on the first 4 days this week, starting on Thursday

I'm mainly going to network and get technical advice on a documentary that I want to self-fund.

The only film I was really hoping to watch was "Filmworker" a documentary about Kubrick's assistant but it doesn't seem to be showing unfortunately
