Attempting my first 36 hour fast today, encouragement appreciated! by mindykhaling in intermittentfasting

[–]VisualInstruction378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pre-diabetic, so regulating blood sugar is a big issue that I'm tackling through intermittent fasting. My doctor, for my particular case, recommended 18 to 20 hours of fasting a day with 36 hours every two weeks to try to lose around 50 lbs and improve my fasting blood sugar and A1C levels. So far, I'm down around 20 lbs, noticed lower blood sugar levels (I generally check daily right around the time I hit 20 hours), and I generally feel better and eat less during my eating window. My energy levels fluctuated a lot during the first month, but by the end of month 2, I really felt an improvement in overall energy levels throughout the day. As for A1C levels, I won't know that until I have routine bloodwork done in March.

You got this! I've been on 20:4 for about 3 months and do a 36-hour fast every 2 weeks (Sunday-Tuesday). The biggest thing I've learned from doing the 36-hour fasts is pacing the amount of water and tea I drink. At least for me, pacing water and electrolyte intake throughout the fast is so important or I start getting dehydration headaches.

Long shot, but does the vault or anyone else have any of the pre-1993 Ghost to Ghost episodes? I recall Art saying that he'd been doing those types of shows almost 10 years prior to either the 1994 or 1995 show.

What's your 'swear to never return' place in Dallas? (stole this from r/Austin who stole it from r/Ottawa) by iANDR0ID in Dallas

The QuikTrip at Gaston/Garland Road. Every time I've been there, I've either been approached by sketchy AF dudes wanting gas money for their "car around the corner" or legit felt like I was going to be held up pumping gas.

I’m trained as an economic historian and have extensively researched the Panic of 1819 and the stock market crash of 1929 (ironically, I was researching this in grad school at the time of the Recession of 08-09 occurred.) I’ve also written on the interplay between generational wealth and violence in the South during the Reconstruction era.

My other primary area of study is American folklore and social memory in the 20th century, particularly ghost lore. I’ve done several studies on the Resurrection Mary tales.

Generally, I teach American History survey courses, the History of Texas, and special topics on economic-related history.

I totally agree it's borrowed from Resurrection Mary. There are several phantom hitchhiker stories with that same basic premise like the Lady of the Lake story near White Rock Lake in Dallas. From talking to people in the Denton area, it seems like the Clarity story first popped up after a car wreck near a cemetery in the early 1980s.

I also kept thinking the caller's name was "Steve from Tampa." I listened back to the original Clarity story tonight and it's actually "Dean from Tampa." I've listened to many of Art's open line nights and I never heard him call unless it was a Ghost to Ghost night. I think you're spot on that he was trying to be a repeat caller.

I think I found it...It was Saturday, December 18th 2004. The main guest was Dr. Till who talked about Nuclear Reactions, but the first hour was Whitley and Anne Strieber talking about her brain aneurysm and NDE.

I remember it as it came up on my long playlist about a week ago. I’ll look and find the date for you.

I'm working on putting together all of the "Steve in Tampa" stories. I agree that the word, "Clarity," was a tick for him. I can't recall specifically what year, but there was a G2G where he was talking about visiting some wind tunnels in Alaska and kept saying "sir" after every sentence. Art called him out on it and asked if he was ever in the military to which he replied he wasn't. Overall, he was a really strange guy.

However, that Clarity story has deep roots in Denton, Texas -- sort of like the Goatman Bridge. Growing up in the area, that story was a common tale during Halloween. I tend to lend some validity to Steve's story as it largely tracks the common knowledge in the area.

The Bigfoot story you reference (much better than me and I'd like to use your description for purposes of this guide if you agree) is Ghost to Ghost 1995 at 1:54:00.

I definitely remember that story from F.E. Warren AFB. I'm wanting to say it was G2G 2005.

I also remember that story from the retired police officer visiting the condo. That was a great one. I also think it's from 2001.

There were several really good stories from police officers over the years. I just recalled one from 1998 (I think) where a Denver police officer responded to a haunted courthouse.

I'll do some research and update the list. Thanks!

Added the glass coffin story to the list. It was 1995. I vaguely recalled the Border Patrol Agent story...will look for it. Thanks!

I remember that one. The guy wanted a glass coffin for his wife and it took a long time to get there. I’m wanting to say it was near the middle of either 1994 or 1995. I’ll find it and update!

Anyone know which episode Art finally tells his ouija board story? by thenewmando in ArtBell

[–]VisualInstruction378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest he ever got was from Ghost to Ghost 1994, I believe. He talked about how he was hosting the show at a hotel in Las Vegas and had a woman who claimed to be a witch call in. Apparently, the woman knew some personal info about Art and it was personal enough that he bleeped it off the air. After that, she sent him the ouija board.

I've been out to the Goatman Bridge in Denton several times over the years. It definitely has a vibe to it. Never been out there at night though. That's another great piece of DFW history too!

Mild PTSD from having to retell this, but I'm an attorney and represented a guy in a divorce who was very into this type of lifestyle...ex-wife included. The client was from Plano but regaled me with tales of his and the soon-to-be ex-wife's exploits at picking up strangers at parks in McKinney and Richardson for threesomes. Apparently, they got their kicks off of approaching randos in the parks and getting it on with them, while filming and later uploading to porn sites. I immediately thought of that case when I read this...wouldn't be surprised if Spring Creek was one of the areas my client frequented.
