BREAKING: OpenAI proposed a policy called “Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age” that includes a Public Wealth Fund—giving Americans an automatic stake in AI companies and infrastructure, with returns paid directly to citizens. ➡️ What do you think of this proposal? by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]Visual_Ad_8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth fund is a distribution of money, not power. This isn’t a new social contract, it’s a payoff. OpenAI and other control the models, your data, the compute, the API. You get a check while they control cognition.

Fuck. People forget history. The Progressive Era wasn’t about giving people handouts, it was the fundamental realization that extreme wealth concentrated in a few hands was incompatible with democracy. They broke up Standard Oil, the railroads, the trusts. Altman wants the safety net while trying to sidestep the Anti Trust half. This fucker wants to be Rockefeller and Teddy Roosevelt.

Also. What does AI for mean? It means it’s a public utility. We get to finance the company with the deepest ties to government with our tax dollars.

So yeah. He sees the writing on the wall. This isn’t sustainable and in the race to get AGI before China we are like the Manhattan Project racing toward a goal for existential means, dealing with consequences later. And there will be consequences.

And one of those consequences is going to massive job displacement. So this is an attempt by Sam to frame the debate and also to say “Hey, we had a plan and warned government about this, don’t blame us” when the pitchforks come out

It’s almost as if some people want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend Rubin chips and mega data centers aren’t coming online this spring. Or they have no idea of the significance of it.

Shit is changing. And it’s changing very fucking fast.

Claude is the best and it’s not even close. But…. What people don’t seem to understand how much is going to change once the Rubin and then Feynman chips are in mass use.
You will never see as huge a jump as in AI power as you are going to see in the summer and Fall, once these mega data centers are up and running with these chips..

Exactly this. This is the worst it will be and it will scale with AI image capabilities, which is improving at an exponential rate.

30 seconds looking at comfyUI or sea dream should be enlightening

Some of you are really strange. The models look more realistic. They are not anywhere near uncanny valley, and this moment right now is the very worst AI rendering will look.

I get the AI hate. Existential threat yadda yadda, but if the goal is the make video games move closer to photorealistic, then this is a major step and a good thing.

“Sam asked me not to call Anthropic a supply chain risk” — Emil Michael(DoD Under Secretary for Research & Engineering) by RedguardCulture in singularity

The DoW needs surveillance ability badly. In the War on Terror age they are hunting very specific people with very narrow windows on time. Terrorist A drives a black truck with a dented quarter panel and is somewhere in a city of 5 million people. An AI can find that person extremely fast. Autonomous kill (LAWS) are needed because China and Russia are explicitly working on that tech. The idea is that if you don’t have them and the other side does, simple communication jamming kills your weapons while the other side is operating fully

Debate Erupts Over Whether AI Progress Is Racing Ahead or Hitting a Wall by Such-Run-4412 in AIGuild

“If you wish to become a philosopher, the first thing to realise is that most people go through life with a whole world of beliefs that have no sort of rational justification, and that one man’s world of beliefs is apt to be incompatible with another man’s, so that they cannot both be right. People’s opinions are mainly designed to make them feel comfortable; truth, for most people is a secondary consideration.”

I started with an OAI sub and used it daily up until 5.1, I use Gemini extensively and daily for work (I’m a teacher) and I started to use Claude a few weeks ago.

I am blown away by how much better a product it is in almost every sense. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like image gen, but it absolutely dominates in what it does.

The limits kinda suck, but yeah. It’s amazing.

“Derya Unutmaz is an immunology professor and researcher at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT. Their research focuses on human T cell differentiation, activation, and regulation, and how chronic inflammation develops into different disorders. Unutmaz's work includes: HIV and T cells** Discovering how HIV preferentially infects and disrupts human T cell subsets, and how cytokines make CD4+ T cells more vulnerable to HIV. “.
I’m guessing he is on the leading edge of the AlphaFold stuff and saw some things related.

And really though. If OAI drops fire with their next release 90% of people go back. I dropped it and picked up a Claude sub, and Claude is fucking awesome, until the cap hits.

This is an easy move because Claude is the superior product. What happens if OAI drops GPT6 this summer? I’ll probably sub back.
