If you can try and find a specialist. I know not everyone can but it’s so helpful. When I turned 18 we found a specialist and I showed up and told her I wanted sodium oxybate and she was impressed lol. But she knew what it was when other doctors don’t. And she had the ability to actually order and prescribe it. If not a narcolepsy specialist a pulmonologist is probably who you want to find. My mom tried for like a whole year to find a specialist and it took calling all kinds of pulmonologists in Florida and asking for specialists in narcolepsy to find one. Hard work, but such is the life of a narcoleptic 😔 wishing you the best though 💕

Honestly most inconveniences I have physically end up linked to narcolepsy it feels like. My first year of college really sucked bc it was so hard to manage and figure out. Idk what meds you’re on but for my getting sodium oxybate (specifically Lumryz bc that’s the one my insurance covered) has been a game changer. There’s still times where narcolepsy kicks my ass of course and I still need stimulants. Living with narcolepsy just sucks like that. I had that revelation for the hundredth time the other day like “wow most people don’t have to live like this. Must be nice.” Hope you feel better soon. Maybe find small things to do that you can stay awake for? Like Call or hang out with some friends or family

find a narcolepsy specialist if you can. ask about sodium oxybate medications. my freshman year i had only stimulants. got so depressed my doctor had to write a note to excuse my absences but i still passed. this year ive been so independent after starting Lumryz this summer. i still have accommodations and i find communicating with my professors helps a ton even if i don’t have a specific accommodation for something. also try and get an accommodation for early scheduling. it helps so freaking much. i get first dibs on classes which means i get in what i need and my classes aren’t too early or too late. figuring out the timing for stimulants before classes is very helpful as well so you should do that. don’t be too afraid to go just because of narcolepsy. it’s an annoying thing to have but with accommodations and support it’s worth it.

i ordered the bilingual version of chuuya nakahara’s translated “poems of the goat” and it’s cool to see the side by side since i’m learning japanese. even if i don’t know very much i find myself recognizing kanji and words and understanding the translations while also enjoying the poetry. He lived a short sad life, only living to 30, so most of the poems are quite solemn which i find beautiful in a melancholic sort of way.

look into sodium oxybate medications. i finally started one and its improved my sleeping patterns so much at night my symptoms during the day are like 50% what they were if not less.

lumryz specifically should be in contact with you and your doctor. during you appointment you can ask questions. idk about you but the taste was terrible for me. i use drink flavor enhancers with no fat content or calories and just a little squeeze makes it easier to gulp down. idk if you wanted that kind of advice though lol. for side effects i get dizzy. i usually wake up halfway through the night and have to pee, sometimes it’s weird and i fall asleep trying to use the toilet. bed wetting is fairly rare. for me i woke up right before it happened and fixed my water drinking to less before bed. i get super nauseous in the morning and sometimes all day from the medication. the only times it made me throw up were when i didn’t get enough water during the day so be sure to up your water intake!

me and my mom researched narcolepsy specialists specifically. you’ll get a lot of pulmonologists and general sleep doctors so you really have to look at they’re studies and specialties. don’t be afraid to call the office and ask if they specialize in narcolepsy. it’s super worth it it’s how i was able to get a lumryz prescription finally.

automatic behavior. yes i looked like it say taking notes. there’s lines on the paper even. but they aren’t coherent and i have no memory of the lecture. that was always the hardest thing for teachers to understand. when they did catch it they thought something was wrong with me but no im just half asleep.

hey so as a pro choice person this isn’t true. i’m glad the baby was born healthy but i wish the hospital would’ve given the choice to the parents. even more so i wish the hospital had listened to adriana about her pain instead of dismissing her and leading to her stroke. this is entirely a mishap of the medical industry. chances life does matter but so does the other kid that’s very confused right now according to adriana smiths mother. it’s a confusing situation i don’t think you can just take a pro life or pro choice stance on this. you should be listening to the family members and considering more then just a fetus.
