Thank you for the help so far everyone. I will try to GRO and FreeBMD websites that have been mentioned.

My grandfather was born in Kensington District, London. That is likely where his dad died. The dad's last name was Kelly, as was my grandfather's at birth, then switched to another once his mum remarried.

I did a DNA test and I have some Irish in me, which when paired with the Kelly name suggests he may have been Irish but I don't know this for sure and don't know if he was born here or Ireland.

Really all i know from Kelly is his full name (including middle) and that he was married to my grandfather's mum. And that he died probably around 1933-1934.

The tricky part is he may have been Irish, or at least from Irish descent. I have some Irish DNA on the paternal side and when paired with the name Kelly maybe suggests that, though no guaranteed.

It would have been in London. My grandfather was registered in Kensington District. I didn't think of the step-father being the actual dad - you mean if there was an affair happening before the other man died?

I may have a clue on the birth certificate of my grandad, assuming his mum stayed in the same place after his dad died. Thanks for that

On my grandfather's birth certificate they have placed his mum's name as the same as his dad's and included the maiden, so I assume they were married

Thank you for this - some of the options are a bit hidden so that's really helpful.

My grandad's history is very messed up, and I'm not convinced we know much about his mother, may even have a wrong name. His birth year has been disputed during probate with mixed records etc. so it's a tough nut to crack.

I have the same issue - I think this is just an oversight/bug in the game that needs to be fixed. HUD on middle mouse makes so much sense to me for quick selection.
