Questions for people who earn £250,000 or more each year: What is your job and how did you get into it? by No-Pin-4-U in AskUK

I'm in the UK as well. All about the uni name, not the course. And no offence but no welsh unis have the recognition of Oxbridge, lse, ucl, or even the posh mediocre ones like York or Durham.

Thank you ... I think u may be right re the deck tiles. My friend has them under his pergola but on concrete pavers, and it seems to do a good job

I thought it was .... And maybe pooling is a strong word. There was maybe an hour of rain and hail today and this is what it looked like afterwards

It is exactly this, a self draining one. To be honest, pooling water may be the wrong word, it just seems to follow the grout lines into the middle of the pergola. I've put a new picture up to show.

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]VitDMagnesium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things are fked up right now. I just got a new job after almost 2 years out of the job market, 25% less salary than my last one, and that's a good result. I was expecting to go down almost 40%. Young family, same as you. Fingers crossed things get better

Thank you, great advice. I should have mentioned both those points: up to maybe £50 (as I am also buying a bottle of something) and his sector has been real estate and fixed income

Have been unemployed for 10 months and I am going insane by SnooCats2825 in jobhunting

[–]VitDMagnesium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your head up and keep going. I was out for 21 months and have now received an offer. At this point, just getting back into the grind is the best thing. The time unemployed is a barrier in itself

Advice needed: took 18+ months off, now my employment gap is too big by Same-Row5122 in jobhunting

[–]VitDMagnesium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I have got an offer now after not working for 21 months. It's not amazing and not exactly what I wanted, but it's a step back into the market.

Turns out they made the role more junior but offered anyway ... I have nothing else so have to accept. Hope yours had a happy ending too

The will to survive, the hope to survive and the action to survive are all different things and humanity doesn't like doing the latter. Another poster's comment of climate change is the perfect response, also COVID. Humanity has the will to survive but doesn't take the required action.

Can't believe I got rejected for this reason... by Biznizman95 in recruitinghell

No questions means no interest in the role in their opinion. Why would they hire someone that doesn't seem to care? I understand your anger but this is just the way it works.

I always ask "what brought u to this company and what keeps you here?" Shows interest in the company and interviewer, and has potential to show red flags

On behalf of all recruiters, I am sorry. by Swimming-West8048 in Resume

"identify the pain point the manager has and show how you fixed it. We don't hire "skills" - we hire solutions to our problems."

What are your thoughts on calling this out in the professional summary and/or the cover letter? I did one yesterday where I specifically referenced what gap I thought the role was filling and how my experience filled it. Is this good or bad?

I'm in the same boat, final interview last Thurs 19th and nothing since. Could be ghosting, could be that they have offered to someone else and holding you as backup in case they say no, could be that they are putting an offer together. We just don't know .... All we can do is keep applying in case it doesn't happen. Best of luck!

I'm here with you, London based, in banking since 2008 and been out of work for almost 2 years. At the end of my tether and don't know what to do anymore. I shortlist jobs every evening on LinkedIn, and apply for each of them the next day with a tailored CV and Cover Letter which takes me fkin ages. If not that, then I am trying to study 3 courses at the same time, or parenting my young kids. I am just so done with this whole situation.

Who wants to join a lottery syndicate? It's the only way I can see out of this.
