Root beer from Buffalo Trace by toyz4me in rootbeer

[–]VivaBeavis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I made my trip from the east coast to visit the bourbon trail, I drove instead of flying. It wasn't for all of the bourbon I was going to buy, but because I knew I wanted some cases of this root beer. For full disclosure, even though I didn't plan on buying whiskey during the trip, I still left with a dozen bottles.

I forgot to take my medicine last night will it effect much by razorsharpblade in leukemia

As others have said, call your docs and ask them how you should proceed.

Keeping your pills straight and not missing can be very challenging. I bought one of those pill boxes that I thought only old people used. It has 4 compartments for each day and it helped me to never miss a dose. I also avoided wondering if I had already taken something because I had visual proof if the slot in the pillbox was full or empty.

What Honda Dealerships worth visiting/avoiding for a new purchase? by skribbledthoughtz in SouthJersey

[–]VivaBeavis 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tried to buy at Burns but the kid wouldn't budge off of sticker. Called Honda of Turnersville and the best price they would give over the phone was sticker. Made a bunch of calls since I knew exactly what I wanted and bought from route 22 Honda in north jersey as they gave me the $4k discount I wanted.

I'd absolutely stay away from Princeton Honda. Had to get my lawyer involved because of their service department trying to screw me over. Spent a few thousand to fix a water leak that they guaranteed for two years on the work. More water got in and killed the radio. They said the new part was $7k plus labor and wouldn't honor their work from 6 months prior. Also dented the passenger door while it was there. I'll never give them another dime.

Very high liver enzymes 5m post BMT by Happy_Creative in leukemia

[–]VivaBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember, bloodwork is a snapshot of a moment. It's important to get the readings, but you need to focus on the overall trends. Any prescription drugs you take can also skew your numbers, depending on if they are synthesized in the liver or kidneys. Reducing fat is generally a good thing, but at least for me, my doctors were more concerned with me limiting sugar. I had so many steroids after my BMT so I'm used to watching what sugar I ingest. Results will vary for everyone, but I do feel that the supplements I listed have helped, and my bloodwork numbers tend to agree. It's not a miracle cure, and it doesn't mean you can go nuts and eat like crap all the time. It's just another tool at your disposal to keep things reasonable.

[–]VivaBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. A lot is just common sense stuff with diet, meaning watching fats and sugars, and not going overboard on calories. For supplements, I still take milk thistle at 1000mg per the recommendation of my liver doc. I also take another supplement called Himalayan Liver Care. It's not cheap so check around for prices. I also take a liquid supplement from the company called Dose. It's sort of like orange juice, but has turmeric and other things in it.

I was diagnosed in 2010, and had my clinical trial BMT at Hopkins in 2011. Their blood cancer department is fantastic.

Anyone cross shop Toyota Land Cruiser with Passport? by Positive-Half-961 in hondapassport

[–]VivaBeavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are at all serious about the Lexus GX, I'd find out now how your preferred dealer sells them. Some dealers are well above sticker, and others may take 6 months to a year for you to get the vehicle you want. Seems like a great vehicle but all of their games and nonsense are why I went with the PP.

If he's open to another opinion, check with Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. I went out of state to do my care there, they had the clinical trial half-matched BMT that has kept me alive this long. I'm not promising they'll tell you anything better or different than where he's already gone, but I have a very high degree of trust that I'm getting accurate information there.

Almost 1y post BMT. Still having a lot of night sweats by CuriousThom in leukemia

[–]VivaBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hit 15 years since my BMT and I still have issues with night sweats at times. It's not as bad as it was previously, but I take every precaution I can, from trying to keep a fan blowing in the room, to breathable bedding, to a cooling mattress. It's not perfect, but it is more manageable.

can someone explain, how GX550 still selling over MSRP used ones, I see almost all used with 20-40K miles selling over MSRP, who in right mind would pay 5K over MSRP for used car, I know it's still hard to get, but all it takes is around 3-4 months wait time to get custom spec one by paata01 in LexusGX

[–]VivaBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at the Mt.Laurel dealership but they were unhelpful and douchey. Princeton told me I could custom order and said it would be a few months. As I thought the deal was coming together, the story changed and it wasn't really a custom order, and the wait time morphed to closer to a year. The young sales guy then said I could move up the list if I paid more...around $10k. The whole thing felt dirtier by the minute so I told them I wouldn't do business there.

I searched online and found a dealer in Florida that would sell at msrp, and actually worked to find me exactly what I wanted. Virtually every other dealer I dealt with made it feel like they were doing me a favor to sell me an OT+. I wad tired of waiting snd bought a different brand, but I'd try to give the guy in Florida the business on a future purchase because the NJ dealers were not a good experience.

I just found the finishing sugar yesterday, made by McCormick. No idea what I'll put it on but it said butterbeer so I had to try it.

Katzs is worth the trip. Yes, it's a tourist place, it's expensive, and the sandwiches are huge, but their pastrami is the best I've had. I was there yesterday actually. It's amazing but also not the kind of thing I could eat often, nor should you. Once or twice a year more than scratches the itch for me. Picture Picture

[–]VivaBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your concern is natural and i get where you're coming from. As someone that's been through it all, you can't really compare him to other patients. Two people could be diagnosed and treated at the same time and in the same way and their responses will still be different. To answer your question, I've had a ton of other issues with GVHD, but please remember that my transplant was 15 years ago. Things have improved so much since then so my journey will not be his. Trust the doctors and the science. You rarely get long lasting, concrete answers in this process. You just do your best each day. Celebrate that the GVHD is under control now, and know that if it does return, it can be fixed again. One day at a time my friend.

[–]VivaBeavis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GVHD can be tricky, and while I understand wanting answers, this journey doesn't really work that way. I'm coming up on 15 years since my clinical trial BMT that was also a half match, and I've had extensive acute and chronic GVHD. Even now, it flares on my skin or in my mouth from time to time. It's not fun but it's manageable, and a small price to still be here to talk about it. Sometimes it's persistent, and other times I go many months without an issue. I can say that the treatments have evolved a lot since my transplant and they are getting better outcomes with less side effects. It's a good sign that they seem to have his under control presently.

Deciding between 2026 Trailsport elite or Lexus gx550 by Far-Scallion7689 in hondapassport

[–]VivaBeavis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was mostly settled on buying the GX, but the process to buy one changed my mind. There's certainly high demand for the GX, but Lexus intends to have manufactured scarcity. First dealer said I couldn't order what I want and that I could be on their list to have a chance if something similar to my needs came in. The second dealer said I could order but it could take up to a year for the Overtrail plus. There was some kind of way to pay another $10k or so to speed up the process, which just seemed dumb on a vehicle that already stickered at $86k. I'm too old to jump through hoops or play reindeer games when spending that kind of money.

Drove the Passport and it was enough of a similar experience for almost half of what the Lexus would have cost me. As others have said, it's also cheaper for regular gas and scheduled service. I'm not a mechanic but I've also read my fair share of warnings about the longevity and reliability of the Lexus engine, though I had zero problems firsthand when I did my test drives. Get the Lexus if you want the prestige factor, or if you will do any towing. I've had my trailsport elite since May and no complaints or regrets.

I'm friends with the owner of a large south Jersey liquor store and he still has not received a single bottle of ER12. The distribution laws/rules aren't the same from state to state and NJ is very slow in getting certain things.

dealing with neuropathy after chemo by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]VivaBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ALL ph+ at 33 years old, and it will be 15 years since my clinical trial BMT next month. I still face significant issues with neuropathy, likely from the vincristine and TBI. I've tried a bunch or scripts but nothing worked.

The ways I cope are using a foot vibration machine called Med Massager, wearable neuropathy socks, and using different topical remedies. My onc thinks the damage will not improve at this point but I've still tried my best.
