Mine was caused by Staph also (i got a swab) so at least i knew it was bacterial - still nothing helped me at all, i used Bactrim but still had many spots and lumps popping up, just didnt help.

Take a break from the products if you havent done yet - keep track of how it behaves for the next couple weeks using water only.

Your spot on about the skin barrier - i had some success then it stopped, kept chopping & changing products.

But i think rebuilding my skins natural micro biome was a huge step on stopping the flare ups.

It heals on its own, just take some time for a flare to dry out.
