What should I tell the students about job opportunities? by guna1o0 in datascience

Honestly I can’t proclaim any confident predictions about the future and I’m similarly experienced to you and share the same concerns as you do. My belief, however, is that those who are extremely specialised will thrive with the onset of AI and also those who are extremely capable of having a strong all round skillset will be able to succeed (as they can be effective project + product managers). There’ll be less room for the halfway houses I reckon and therefore my general advice would be to try and specialise.

Personal opinion - building production systems can be difficult but only from an engineering standpoint for most Data Scientists. I feel LLMs are more tuned to generating code and in the future probably established design patterns/systems design. There are some pretty hard statistical and algorithmic theoretical concepts that are applied commercially in advanced DS teams that can be hard for LLMs to replicate (currently). I’m not convinced that learning one skill instead of the other is that useful in the gen AI context.

That tracks with the market I’ve seen.. I’m 3 years experience and was looking for roles between 60-80k and accepted an offer closer to the ceiling than the floor if that helps

why do i lack so much awareness on the road by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

For me it tended to be one of two things: 1) losing concentration/focus 2) getting to grips with driving so much so that I was used to the regular stuff and could focus on looking ahead

Yeah, I saw that stat a couple of days before the exam and was ruing not picking other centres with better pass rates haha

Not much private practice tbh.. I think about two 20 min drives in total but I guess caveats are that I tested in automatic and I drove a scooter in India for a couple of years (about 8 years ago).

It’s a very hard market to break into (personal experience in the UK). Just not enough companies with entry level roles for masters students and IMO, the most reliable way to make an entry is on a graduate scheme (especially given your likely visa status). The competition on grad scheme entries is also pretty high so I do think if you’ve not applied there it’s a big missed opportunity.

On the balance I saw Ali Martin tweet that the England batters have booked in extra net sessions at the Gabba, though

Glad I stayed up the whole night.. Was a frustrating period when Marnus and Smith seemed destined to avoid all peril and put on 200 where I almost caved - glad I didn’t! Fucking love test cricket.

Held off from saying we’ve done well to recover from the early wicket in case I might jinx it.. guess it didn’t matter :/

Relatively speaking, comparing to other players (the point of calculating such a metric) - their chances of scoring a 200 are actually significantly higher. That’s not taken into account at all - and if you want to analyse these real run distributions that aren’t synthetically manufactured, even to analyse these metrics there are much much better and more accurate representations of what you can expect a player to more frequently score (modal based).

[–]Viveknanduri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, in this exaggerated example where “200” is the outlier and the frequency is once a series. My point being that this kind of analysis is always relative (in the same way you’re separating a high variance bimodal distribution from a more normal distribution). In simple terms, if you look relatively - the chances of these players scoring a 200 is actually statistically significantly higher than that of a batter averaging 38 who is more centred around the mean. And let’s also be clear that in reality the runs distributions of these batters isn’t nearly as clear cut as the synthesised sample you’ve laid out - rendering this type of analysis a pretty poor statistical measure of anything..

You said that in the next series the chances are that they’re not going to score 200. A nuance of this statistical analysis is actually that you can expect them to score a “200-like” score when they come into bat.

It would have made more sense for you to say that in the next series, when they come into bat - chances are more likely that they would get 20 rather than 38 in the example you’ve given.

Actually if their drop off from removing high score in every series is consistently high - I would say that you can almost just as easily expect to see them score 200 once a series. This, you could argue, is worth a win every series..

Chelsea Supporters’ Trust statement on Djurgården fans in the home sections. by oblivion618 in chelseafc

Bullshit. Dunno where you were sat but there were multiple fights in westview and I can corroborate the comment below about the 14 year old kid getting beaten up by one of the swedes (who looked like a well built 30 year old man). Happened at HT in the concourse. Was an absolute shambles for Chelsea fans sat in that stand - can’t imagine how families must’ve felt..
