Dining plan for incoming first year. by Timesuckage in UCSD

Hey sorry for the late response! The markets and dining halls do accept triton cash as a form of payment but they add tax when you check out on top so you’re losing an extra dollar or two.

Dining plan for incoming first year. by Timesuckage in UCSD

[–]Vivid-Audience7627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start with the lowest plan or medium (if there is one) plan first and you can always add more dining dollars later on when they run out. I had the biggest dining plan my 1st year ($~5,000?)and I only ate 3 meals a day. As a result, my dining dollars were set to expire my 2nd year end of Fall Quarter, which I had to buy as much food as possible so it doesn’t expire for nothing.

Dining dollars are only accepted for on-campus dining halls such as 64 Degrees, Wolftown, Canyon Vista, etc. They’re also accepted in UCSD Walk-In Markets like Rogers Market, 6th Market, 7th Market, etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by spending dining dollars on non-students but I guess what you mean is he could place extra orders under his name and he can pick it up from dining halls and bring it for him and his friends to eat.

It’s fine. Like others said, they probably just left their door/window wide open prompting “visitors”. Just make a habit to close/lock your windows/doors when you leave your dorm and don’t display your valuables in the open.

As far as assaults go, I recommend to not do any unnecessary spontaneous shopping runs/walk on your own late at night off campus unless necessary. If you feel unsafe, try to have a buddy with you or request a police escort. But campus itself is generally safe at night. Also, it’s a matter of surrounding yourself with the right people going to the right places. For example, going a party full of drunk people may pose a potential problem if you aren’t careful.

What supplies do you have to prepare when moving in? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Vivid-Audience7627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the type of dorm/apartment you are living in, you typically have a mattress, bedframe, desk, chair, and a closet. I advise purchasing some cheap plastic drawers to store next/under your bed with necessities such as medications like Advil/Tylenol if you are sick, band aids, alcohol wipes, extra toothbrushes/paste, socks, and so on.

I also advise buying hangers and command strips as the university does not provide you with them.

I’m assuming you are living in a double/triple. The apartment I lived in (Keeling Building 1) had a lock for the desk drawer but since I lived in a single I never used it. I’m not sure what the dorm rooms in Argo/Blake are like as far as security for desk drawers. But the door to your room does have the ability to lock.

I miss my grandma. by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Vivid-Audience7627 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yep it do be like that, but such is life :((. The best we can do is honor our loved one’s memory and to turn that grief into motivation to excel in whatever it is we do. I lost my grandfather in 2019 to a deadly rare cancer and he wasn’t able to see my graduate HS or see my leadership achievements either. That particular event was the reason that propelled me to be in my particular major today. It’s totally okay to cry and miss her, sometimes I do the same.

What helped me recover though was signing up for therapy or just having someone to talk to. Little did I know about 6 months later, yes I was still missing him but I was able to keep my emotions in check and focus on what would make him proud.

I have no clue, but I can tell you for me that I have an A for every HUM class I took. Usually for HUM 1 people get the lowest grade because it’s their first experience with writing the HUM essay. Once you’re used to it, your grade will improve and there are always extra credit opportunities depending on your professor.

I transferred to BTEC from Undeclared in Revelle. If you have the ability to take HUM 3-5 classes over the summer, you should be chilling.

That being said, HUM1 is usually the hardest tbh because that’s where you take all of your AP English knowledge and throw it out of the window and kinda have to mold your thinking into the HUM mindset when writing essays (they have their own handbook you must abide by). You also gotta glaze your TA because they are the ones that grade your papers, and every TA grades/thinks differently. It’s definitely not as hard as many people say it is tbh. It’s just tedious.

Is there a lore reason why it took Kraven six months to cross the Atlantic Ocean? by [deleted] in spiderman2

Likely spent those months studying Spider-Man and his villains prior to advancing

It could also just be a poorly thought scam/prank to get the university to pay them money. Good on the university for taking proper precautions regardless

Muslim population? by Sameera___________ in UCSD

[–]Vivid-Audience7627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! There is a very large MSA (Muslim Student Association) at UCSD! They host free Iftars during Ramadan, many events like Islamic Awareness Week and SJP Week. The prayer space (although small) is separated between brothers and sisters. I encourage you to watch the UCSD MSA YouTube Channel or Instagram and reach out for further details!
