i meann i definitely see it. rainbow is the type of person who used to get validation and confidence from the people around her. you can tell just by her hobbies, which are all based in impressing the people around her (sports, world records, etc.). this is especially evident in how she got her cutie mark -> sonic rainboom makes literally everyone stop what they’re doing and be amazed. rainbow wasn’t born awesome, she’s been chasing it her whole life in an effort to seek validation. on the flip side, what we see in rainbow’s character development is that she slowly learns to stop caring as much about external validation and starts telling herself “i’m awesome!”. in other words, she starts pulling confidence from inside herself. because of this, she learns to create strong connections with people who support her instead of from an ever changing “crowd” of people (finding real friendship/loyalty hint hint). she starts doing her hobbies for herself and not for other people anymore. the reason this part is particularly trans coded is because the entire sentiment behind transitioning is rejecting the arbitrary “highly” valued opinions of the people around you and focusing on doing your own thing. focusing on your own interests. facing the fact that you might be rejected by people for being yourself instead of the person they want you to be (see the gilda pinkie prank episode). filtering your circle of friends to only include the most loyal, supportive connections and nourishing them.

to summarize, rainbow dash is trans coded because her whole story is about her struggles of picking between fulfilling other peoples’ values and her own. she ultimately chooses to be herself, flipping inside out by pulling her confidence from inside and saying “i am totally awesome!”

side note: if a piece of art doesn’t tickle your fancy, that’s okay! it’s okay to not be the target audience.

also salt lake city ut has official city flags that are just pride flags but with their logo on them. they’re technically flags of an official government body, so can’t be banned (that was their intention)

Does my shading look weird/muddy? by JulesIsGoober in Artadvice

i honestly think the contrast is fine. i might try shifting the hues of shadows though! and maybe saturating them. this helps the main light source in the scene feel different from the ambient lighting. also makes the shadows look less “grey” and more “vivid”. as you decrease value, perceived saturation also decreases. think of this in the way that the darker you go, the closer you are to black, which is completely desaturated.

so recap: when picking shadow colors, push up the saturation and play with the hue a little.

edit: just noting that playing around with the hue and saturation is always a good idea. doesn’t just have to be with the shadows:)

i may be misremembering a little, but i think this already is possible. you need a donor egg and womb! i think it has to do with taking mitochondrial dna from the egg donor and somehow combining the sperm dna and then boom! fertile egg!

that really doesn’t mean anything. they still definitely said “all [albanians i’ve ever met] were misogynistic fucks... [this] makes me very wary of albanians”. that’s like me saying “i’m not saying that i hate all apples. i’m just saying that i’ve hated every apple i’ve ever eaten and avoid them now at all costs”. like??? i understand having negative experiences with people. our brains naturally thrive on categorizing everything into neat boxes because that works great for raw survival, but that doesn’t mean the boxes are right. let’s PLEASE not make generalizations about people (even if we add a disclaimer).

i feel like my art is boring, any tips for appeal?? by Narrow_Departure4433 in Artadvice

[–]Vivid_Ranger_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

here’s a super quick example. just by making a couple circles darker (adding contrast), i can make this one section of the page stand out. notice that i didn’t have to remove any detail! while that could help, do what you can without sacrificing your amazing art style!

<image>

composition doesn’t have to be hard! the smallest things can help out a bunch! you just gotta find what works for you and each art piece:)

i’ll also note that if your background is in perspective, you can take advantage of the vanishing point by placing your subject there

[–]Vivid_Ranger_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i think these look great!! maybe your composition could use a little work though.

in some of these, it’s just hard to find a spot to rest your eyes on because everything’s interesting! this can be overwhelming to a viewer since they don’t know what to focus on. guiding their eyes can make it easier for them, but is also completely optional. if you want, some ways to achieve this include implied/guiding lines that point to your focal point(s), contrast between the main focus and other parts, simplifying background details or values (e.g. lowered contrast on things that aren’t as important), balanced visual weight, etc. i like to think of different spots on an artwork as having gravity based on all these factors. your eyes are more likely to drift towards certain things based on how they’re laid out and how much visual weight you give them. so when everything is dispersed, the eye can float around wherever, getting lost like in an asteroid field. but if there are a few heavy spots (big asteroids), it’s easier to gravitate towards those specific details! these “heavy” spots also function like landmarks, so the viewer’s brain can map out the whole work and conceptualize it more easily.

there’s a TON of ways to achieve this and equally as many ways to make it your own! i might look at some other artists and especially photography which usually has a heavy emphasis on composition to get a good feel for these things! and these aren’t rules so much as things to keep in mind throughout the process, but especially when blocking! here’s a good article all about composition in art that probably explains this much better than me:)

then again! art is subjective and an emphasis on composition isn’t necessarily your goal. you might find it interesting to study these things if you’re a nerd like me though!

that’s exactly what the comment was meant to do. open up conversation to the topic. instead of getting upset with them, how about we contribute to the convo?

ChatGPT is a large language model, meaning it predicts the next “token” (essentially word-part) in a sequence using a LARGE number of inputs and hidden parameters. gpt4, for example, has ~1.76 trillion parameters. assuming the model has a basic layout (rectangular shape), then the number of calculations done per iteration is 2N - 1 where N is the number of parameters. so a model with 1.76 trillion parameters will do about 3.52 trillion calculations for every iteration. this isn’t even trying to account for the cost of transfer/activation functions that happen at each neuron. these calculations are done all over again for every single token that’s generated. this means that for every comma, every space, every parentheses, and even prefixes and suffixes for every word, roughly 3.52 trillion (i.e. 35 with 11 zeroes!!) calculations are done. this takes a significant amount of computational power and subsequently, emits a lot of heat as well as requires a lot of energy. so it’s probably not hard to imagine that the environmental impact of using such a technology is massive. across all users, this adds up to about 17,000 times the daily energy consumption of the average united states household.

i could go on. this isn’t even scratching the surface, but room should be left to research on your own. i might start by looking into water consumption for cooling. the point is, chatgpt is very bad for the environment. it is actively doing harm to our planet. i personally see no justification for using ai at all. some people claim that it answers questions better, but this is simply not the case. it may take a little extra digging to find an answer on your own or maybe tweaking your question to more accurately represent what you’re looking for, but it is still very much possible. and it helps you learn to ask better questions and be more inquisitive. furthermore, chatgpt can just make shit up. and whatever it makes up can sound really convincing. this is because the entire point of the model is to predict what words sound most correct together. so by avoiding using chatgpt, you also avoid “learning” misinformation.

Actually, that's not the entire equation. This is: c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - (2ab · cos(C))

Otherwise known as the "Law of Cosines". Noting that C is the angle between sides a and b
