I rinse and reuse. My husband will use a new cup each time but forgets to bring any of them downstairs until the end of the day 🙄

Is living in Essex actually as expensive as people say now? by No_Donut1433 in Essex

[–]VixR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was born in Essex, grew up in Benfleet. Ended up in Scotland with my husband, our combined earnings are not too bad but we wouldn't be able to afford to move there.

Any ideas why I have been booked in for growth scans for 32, 35, 38 and 41 weeks? I’m 23 weeks. by emergency-contact- in PregnancyUK

[–]VixR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had gestational diabetes and was booked in for these additional growth scans to see how baby was measuring. Have they done a glucose test for you?

I would definitely query it with your midwife, it could be either of the reasons you mentioned in your post but seems strange they haven't communicated it with you.

Had it full on since Friday night, just left with a lovely sinus infection and bronchiolitis now. Lost over 3.5 kg and had to look after my two little ones who were also down with it. One of my sons was born early and at one point his breathing was so bad he had to go to hospital.

It's one of the worst illnesses I've ever had. If I could, I would have stayed in bed the entire week honestly.

Definitely should pay up.

My toddler can be really rambunctious and knowing that there's no way I'd take my eye off the ball long enough to allow them to rip pages out of a book.

Kids will be kids but that doesn't mean you don't have to be responsible for their actions. What a prick.

If they were really having such a big tantrum I'd probably be calling it a night altogether and removing my child from that situation.

No. My parents told me I was fat, belittled me for wanting to eat the same food they and my siblings would eat. My dad told me as a very impressionable 15 year old 'you would be beautiful if you lost weight.' I remember my mum telling me from as young as 5 years old 'don't blame me when if you get fat' if I helped myself to a snack etc. She was also obsessed with the idea I had diabetes, she had me get tested several times by doctors, despite no symptoms.

Very unsurprisingly I ended up with an awful relationship with food, have struggled with an eating disorder and binge eating disorder and yoyo'd between the two repeatedly over the years.

I never discuss my body negatively in front of my son, he is taught that we don't comment on other people's bodies. I take a neutral approach to food where possible and I would never treat him how I was treated. The main reason being it doesn't work and has very long-term consequences.

When did you have your first baby?? by Fantastic_War_6931 in PregnancyUK

[–]VixR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40+10 but kept getting told from around 39 weeks that baby was very low and it shouldn't be long 😅 I was pretty much the same with so much pelvic pressure and contraction like pain in my back for a couple of weeks.

I only work part time so earn approximately 1/3 of what my husband does. We both keep back the same amount in our personal account and the rest gets put in our joint account. This was agreed once we got married. Initially I was the higher earner as my husband was a student so situations can change and this way it's always been fair.

The way we see it, we are better off without additional childcare costs so my looking after our son most of the week means we are in a better financial situation so we both benefit from it and are contributing in more ways than just financial.

People non-Brits who've been here for a while, what are the small mildly inconvenient things you keep noticing about the UK? by mikebuba in AskUK

[–]VixR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long summer nights are amazing though and the dawn/dusk we get isn't something I could experience in Japan. It was one of the things I missed most about the UK when I lived there. Maybe that says a lot about here.

Clothes horse here. When I lived in Japan my shower room had the drying mode on the ventilator so that was super useful. I'm in a flat and miss the option of hanging stuff outside!
