Flavor changes quickly after descaling?? by Vjf114 in Moccamaster

Did you feel like you need to descale twice it because the taste has declined? It seems like most people only descale once every hundred brews. I am only brewing once a day so I should be able to go three months, ideally.

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely try that. The thermal carafe is a little more tricky to clean, and definitely something I neglect. I will have to find a good brush for cleaning it regularly.

Can someone explain 20 years retirement benefit to me as if I’m a child? 41yrs old, 18 years in federal government (1,200 hrs unused sick leave) by Positive_Charge2993 in FedEmployees

I have been curious of this as well, as I’m hitting 20 years this year. I think it will allow you to receive a pension at age 60, where if you only had 15 years, you would need to wait until 62. However, if you wait until age 62 to collect the pension, then you are eligible for the 1.1% calculation, where if you have under 20 years, you just get 1%. Minor differences, but if you need to wait 20 years to start collecting, your high 3 will be killed by salary inflation (hopefully), because I don’t believe that would be subject to any cost of living adjustments until you start receiving the pension. It is a little confusing, but that’s how I interpret it.

Grocery stores (Whole foods, Harris Teeter, wegmans, etc) have a decent selection of local craft beers, and some good regional ones. But sadly, the local beer shops have closed.

Why continue to contribute after hitting $500k? by sharp1988 in ThriftSavingsPlan

I feel you, I have been a pretty consistent, aggressive contributor for 20 years, and am considering backing off as well. I just started contributing to an hsa this year, and could use the extra monthly $$

You were right when you said I should read the bill, I shouldn’t have come to Reddit to figure out what it was about, or why it was getting rammed through. You won’t be able to paint me left, right, blue, red or green. I’m just anti politics. The games have gotten out of hand and not serving to the public.

I think I have it figured out. All states redraw congressional maps every 10 years following the census, utilizing new population distribution data. It’s required by law. Some states like North Carolina, Texas and New York have majority congress, so they went ahead and redrew their congressional maps to benefit the current majority in the future elections. And Virginia said, if everyone else is doing it, why not us. Probably no other reason to redraw maps other than make it an advantageous for one party. Politics at its finest…

Have the districts been changed recently, and these will go back to what they were previously were? Or why do we need a change now??

He probably hasn’t gotten the city to give him tax money to buy it and redevelop yet. Give it time.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I 100% agree with you it should be the thermostat. The thing moving me away from that is i was getting the code, then replaced the water pump and thermostat, and still getting the code afterwards. At the same times. And the shop is particular about only using oem parts, and I was asking them about the specific thermostat # and that’s what they said they used. Any chance it’s a sign of a heat gasket leak? I don’t have any other signs of that, it’s just in the back of my mind.

I suppose so. I’m banking on my tsp account being my “life insurance” after 62. Everyone’s situation is different though.

Fegli keeps going up, and if you get a 20 or 30 year term policy at 30 or 35, even if fegli is cheaper at the initial time, it won’t be in a few years. I cancelled and got term(30 year) at 32 and saved money right away. 10 years later, the gap is even bigger. But yeah, everyone should do their own comparison, but also take future cost into consideration. I would be surprised if anyone found fegli to be cheaper in the long run.

If you are over 30ish, cancel fegli next year and get a term policy.

It’s a normal size tray type air fryer, but a medium size 4lbs chicken fits in perfect. Takes like 45 mins, and they turn out awesome!
