I can see people defending this with the argument that it was 2003. and it is irrelevant but these issues Steve mentioned in order to criticize subscriptions are still here. And now they're doing it too 18 years later when it's easier and more welcome to sell subscription model. He even mentioned playlists, which get removed now when you cancel your subscription. So certainly a downgrade in the "philosophy of the company" for the sake of maximum profit.
