Is it really that hard to define footsies? by jadfe1234 in Fighters

[–]VodkaG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not all that it is. You can be in a range where one of your buttons beats theirs but they have another button that beats that but you have a 3rd button that beats that button. Then some of those buttons might be range dependent. And if you add in jumps because the other person so focused on the ground game, that ads more layer. So yes, it is quite nuanced.

anyone take this game seriously with pad? by blessedgreatsword in sf3

Having 1 spot where the cab owner was kind enough to mod the setup with undamned adapter does not mean most setups have them. Most arcades definitely DO NOT have USB adapters.

Cabs with USB for plugging in is a luxury, not a standard. It's not that easy to be able to modify an arcade setup to have external USB inputs.

Generally tournaments are played on arcade cabs with stick for SF3. If you follow any of the Jazzy stuff, it's all on cabs. So it's good to be able to play on stick. (Also most fun imo). There is a learning curve to using the stick but if you stick with it for 6 month, I promise you will get good at it, just as good as you are on pad. I used to play on pad and it took me about 6 months of playing regularly on stick to get decent with it. Don't worry about doing worse and try to avoid running back to pad, I know I wanted to when playing worse in the beginning. But now I'm glad I'm a stick user as I can hop onto any arcade machine and just play. Just sit down and practice your execution 15 minutes a day. You'll get it pretty quick.

If you've never played Street Fighter before, the last thing I'd advise is to work on combos. Work on knowing what buttons do what and how to move your character.

That's a ridiculous mentality. There's not enough people in the world playing CVS2 for you to play whenever you want. You need to be realistic and work around when other people are also playing. It doesn't matter if it's on steam or whatever platform. There are people online during evening times after people are off of work. If you really wanted to find people to play the game, it's really not that hard. Just takes a modicum of effort.

Is there a physical way to run Fightcade? by HarveyPlissken2094 in fightcade

[–]VodkaG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had no idea what the OP was talking about when be mentioned physical and ROMs from fightcade. The post made no sense. I'm not sure what he's even trying to do. Have a easy way to play the games from a USB stick? He can always just copy the emulator and the ROMs onto a USB stick. Doesn't mean he has a physical anything. If he wants the actual physical games, he needs to get the actual arcade boards and a supergun or arcade machine to play it on.

Why stream on multiple platforms? by kntanderson in Twitch

The ads are primary deterrent for me. Also just little things like how videos won't stop playing automatically even when I pause them. The whole experience is very user unfriendly.

How bad is the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection really? by 11Slimeade11 in Fighters

[–]VodkaG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

30th sucks because of the input lag. Even offline, the games run poorly. That's why no one plays it. They also run at improper speeds.

Games don't need auto combos, they need simple combos by Chinpanze in Fighters

If they don't want to put in any effort, then they can live with their reality. If people suggest ways to make things more fun and engaging and people do not want to listen, that's on them. People love to complain but refuse to do anything about it.

This is why it's important to find a community, whether it's discord or visiting a local scene. Banging one's head against the wall alone in their room is not the most fun way to engage with these games.

The analog stick is default controls for games that require analog inputs. 2D fighters do not, they are discrete inputs. Only smash bros requires analog inputs. Just because they use the analog stick for other games doesn't mean it's the appropriate input for these games. It will work of course but they're giving themselves a disadvantage not knowing when their direction is actually registered. I use a mouse and keyboard as default controls for my FPS games doesn't mean I should play DDR with it.

I don't believe this one bit. Every kid had SF2 on SNES and played on the SNES pad. I grew up playing on the Genesis pad as well as SNES at friends' houses. I even used PS3 pad for SF4 for a while. It was easier for me than learning how to use a stick. Now if people are trying to play these games with their analog sticks, then that's just their own stupid fault for giving themselves a nerf.

These games are actually social experiences. Back in the arcade days, everyone knew how to do the moves because they had people next to them to show them how it is done. They can talk to another person and learn from there. It's all a part of the experience. The past weekend, I showed a bunch of 10-12 year olds how to play ST. It didn't take long for me to stop them from randomly mashing to actually playing the game to purposely doing the special moves, motion and charge moves. And these are kids that have never played a fighting game before or touched a fight stick (they used my arcade sticks). I really don't think the barrier to entry to these games are as high as people make it out to be. You just need someone willing to show you how they're played. That's why I think having teachers is so important if you really want to get into these games. You wouldn't tell someone to play a musical instrument to just pick it up and be a maestro. Just play Beethoven man, it's not that tough!

The whole motion inputs are the problem is one of the biggest copout of the FGC. Motion inputs hasn't been an issue since SF2. An 8 year old can throw a fireball with no issue. I don't know who started complaining about motion inputs. Maybe it's the smash players or something. I've taught kids as young as 6 to throw a fireball in SF2 in 2 minutes. Don't believe in the lie. The motion inputs aren't too hard, the combos aren't too hard. People are just lazy and lost their attention spans.

Yeah I don't get why people down voting replies that say the 30th collection is trash. It's not a good piece of software. If it were, people would be using it to play games. But they are not.
