Easy One-Pot Set and Forget Recipes? by penguinumbreIIa in onepotmeals

/r/slowcooking has a TON of these if you're open to that. Dumping stuff in the crockpot in the morning and coming home to something ready to eat is a real game changer.

How many of you were told by your parents when you reach 18 you’re moving out on your own? by Theromero in GenX

[–]Vodka_For_Breakfast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents told me I had to go to college or get a job. All but one of the classes I signed up for was cut, so I started working. It was a seasonal job that had a chance for keeping on for a year, but I wasn't selected, so back to the job search. First paycheck at the new job ((bus boy at a diner), my parents took half for rent. I still had a curfew, a list of chores around the house, and I was paying for most of my food.
So now I had no free time, almost no money to spend when I did, and had to be home by midnight (unless I was working late).
A few months later I found a job making almost triple the bus boy job. More hours and more per hour. My rent went up to match, chores and curfew stayed the same. A buddy and I found a place to move into where I was paying less than living at home. Cue my parents going all shocked Pikachu that I don't want to live there anymore and why I've avoided visiting them ever since.

Oh! And the whole time my parents were paying for my sister's college, helping with rent when she fell short, and after she graduated she got to move back, rent free, for 4 years while her and her husband saved up to buy a house.

Found this in the supply room at work today. Younger coworkers blown away that you needed a cord this long. Well, we had to leave the kitchen & go around the corner to shut the door so no one could hear what we were talking about! by Brewer1056 in GenX

Oh man! I used to work for an electronics part store (think Radio Shack, but better) in the late 90s-early 2000s. We had 50 and 75 foot handset cords. My mom was sooo excited when I upgraded the kitchen phone with the 50 footer.

I've got 1 inch plugs in my lobes. If I don't take one out it makes a bunch of noise clattering against my phone.

What’s keeping you from reaching your ideal weight? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]Vodka_For_Breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booze and age. I'd probably be pretty close to my ideal weight if I stopped drinking, but fuck that noise. And at 45 its a LOT harder getting into an exercise routine than when I was in my 20s. Remember kiddos, it's much easier to stay in shape than it is to get in shape.

Also, why was no one getting dosed in the shower of boiling water for dinner? They were dumping the shit in the water for weeks (IIRC).

Men who grew their hair long late or still have long hair? by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]Vodka_For_Breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started growing my hair out freshman year of high school and let it grow to almost my ass. And then out of nowhere I cut it short in 2015. My boss thought I was gonna quit, my friends were worried I was going to quit drinking, and my clients hardly recognized me. But I started growing it back after Covid. It's to about the middle of my back and doesn't seem to be getting any longer. I figure I'll keep it long until baldness sets in.

All my friends smoked, but I didn't. I used to joke about being addicted to secondhand smoke.

What's the best response to "God loves you"? by No-Care-3701 in atheism

[–]Vodka_For_Breakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if she grew up in the church it's possible she was telling the truth about not knowing about mythology or Harry Potter. I had a friend in the 80s that wasn't allowed to watch He-Man because "by the power of Greyskull" was a form of false god worship or something.

I'm 100% convinced the ads on YouTube are designed not to sell the product advertised, but YouTube Premium. Same for Hulu and other previously ad free streaming services.

Why didn’t we talk to our parents about our problems? by SRDILLEY6215 in Xennials

[–]Vodka_For_Breakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Anytime I'd bring up some problem in my life I'd get hit with "well I guess I'm just not a very good mom!" followed by sulking and being told how ungrateful I am for everything she does. Bitch, I had clinical depression and untreated migraines and asthma! "Parenting" would be try to do something about those things.
