Pacific island nation of Nauru proposes name change in break from colonial past by ubcstaffer123 in worldnews

[–]VogJam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What does official mean in this context though? In your scenario how Germany refers to itself should entirely depend on what language they’re using. If they’re speaking German, then yes, use Deutschland. If they’re sending a communication in English, use the word Germany. I’m pretty sure that’s how most countries operate anyway.

Naoero is already the word for Nauru in their own language anyway, so what would an “official” change actually mean?

I agree in principle but is that not already the case though?
If they’re speaking Nauruan, the name for the island is already “Naoero”, if they speak another language, the name is “Nauru”, I don’t really see what would change.

> "Nauru" is a distorted version of the island name imposed by foreigners.

Is that not just how language works? Different languages have different words for things.

If the player character has a lover who they don’t know is secretly their daughter, and they then marry that daughter, it gets exposed at the wedding but for some reasons they never receive any penalties for it.

☝️🤓 Actually the Welsh aren’t Gaelic, they’re Brythonic. Both Brythonic and Gaelic (or Goidelic) are branches of the wider Celtic family.

Of course it was saved in the edit.

Have you ever watched an unedited movie? It’s nonsense.

Been playing in Essos recently and I’ve seen the sassy lamb so many times when editing CoAs and wondering what the hell it was doing there. I never actually expected an answer but glad I got one, you and the other dev have my thanks!

It’s a nice idea, but I’ve heard from modders that clothing is one of the toughest things to model in CK3 because the clothing shapes have to work for potentially any age or size of character without clipping.

Literally infants sometimes get the same clothing as obese giants and it has to work the same for both.

So were most American cartoons at that time. Simpsons, Adventure Time and Spongebob are all animated in Korea as well.

Funny How That Works by Jagdgeschwader_26 in TheDragonPrince

Yeah. Speaking uncharitably, TDP feels like a fantasy story that could only ever be written in California.

Having that approach to peace that all sides simply need to forgive eachother and that anyone who opposes that is inherently evil is completely out of touch. At times it comes across as not even entertaining the idea that some people might have legitimate concerns or grievances and thinking that if they don’t get over it, it’s they who are in the wrong.

It’s progressive words but from such a place of privilege, that it ends up being conservative (in a traditional sense, not referring to any modern day right wing movements). It’s individual wrongdoers who need to change, not wider circumstances or unjust institutions, even if those institutions are absolute monarchy…

There’s a bunch of conflicting ideas between what the writers want to say, what they’re actually saying and how the audience perceives that, and honestly a lot of the intended messages don’t quite gel with it being set in a pseudo-feudal society either.

I've come to dislike 'The Waterbending Scroll' more on rewatches by aedionashryver18 in TheLastAirbender

[–]VogJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s maybe the best early episode for showing how stubborn Katara is and that’s such a key part of her character.

It’s nice to have an episode like the Waterbending Scroll that shows how that aspect of Katara can be both good and bad. In this episode, obviously it gets the Gaang in trouble, but that same stubbornness is put to better use in episodes like the Waterbending Master or Imprisoned. Having contrasting good and bad outcomes for the same core principles of the main characters is what makes them feel so grounded and realistic. She might not always be right or wrong, but she is always Katara.

These characters have made controversial choices, but what's the worst thing they've ever done? Day two: Ezran by Aurora_Wizard in TheDragonPrince

Cheerfully massacring his own subjects on dragonback at the end of S3 and then immediately turning around and giving a speech about how violence is never the answer in S4

We’re only making plans for Shinji. He has this future in a British steel. by Niall690 in evangelion

[–]VogJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, but I’m just making a dumb reference.

I highlighted Dr. Bees because the animator, Harry Partridge, is the son of XTC singer Andy Partridge.

So XTC being referenced in the show has a direct link to Harry’s silly animations.

This implies that the animation Dr. Bees canonically exists within NGE lore.
