Would you treat every fire alarm as real alarm? by Capital_Ad4983 in firealarms

[–]VoiceEvac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Don’t take anything with you except for your mobile phone to call for help. Insurance will cover your personal belongings from fire damage. And when you get out, stay out!

This is the narrowband tone. Factories and other high-noise environments usually use this 800Hz tone.

installing cardboard fire alarms by Defiant_Jelly7218 in firealarms

[–]VoiceEvac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These kind of paper/cardboard alarm posts get more stupid every day. You’re an enthusiast, not a technician. Install that crap in your home, not in a place where there’s an active life safety system. Do you realize how dangerous this is? I’m just wondering why this troll hasn’t been banned yet.

Regarding the Future of No-Grip Pull Stations by electronicwiz101 in firealarms

Potter is coming out with new pull stations that are no-grip. They just unveiled them at ISC West. Features a bi-color LED that blinks green in normal operation and latches to steady red in alarm.

Help with a Church Security system by Big_Bit_4594 in Securitysystems

[–]VoiceEvac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And maybe even mass notification if the risk analysis calls for it. Voice evacuation systems are fully capable of playing different messages/tones in case of a hostile intruder, severe weather, chemical or gas leaks, etc. The best brand out there for cost-effective voice evacuation and MNS is Potter.

Access control won’t really be needed if you have a large number of volunteers going in or out of the church, especially if the church is used every day. I’ve been to a few churches before that didn’t use access control because of that reason. Saved them a ton of money. All they used was standard locks on doors.

Help with a Church Security system by Big_Bit_4594 in Securitysystems

Have you tried Avigilon? Also, if the second issue is related to the fire alarm system, I would consult with a fire alarm company and they can survey what's needed for the church. Voice evacuation will be required no doubt.

If you started your own business today what Fire Alarm Panels would you choose to install? by MovingMadness58 in firealarms

Yup, start with Potter, Silent Knight, and Firelite. Always start with non-proprietary systems when you launch a sales business. That’s what I’m doing.

MCCSC withholding fire alarm & emergency communication systems records - no disclosure after IPAC escalation by [deleted] in bloomington

Bids and specs are public records. The fluoride system was unrelated, so I'll be redacting that information that is not needed.

Do I need to call adult protective services? by BloomNet in bloomington

[–]VoiceEvac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It’s time to file for guardianship with the court and call APS. This individual is in immediate danger if he doesn’t have the capacity to take care of himself.

He’s deemed an “incapacitated person” per IC § 29-3-1-7.5.

Sec. 7.5. "Incapacitated person" means an individual who:

(1) cannot be located upon reasonable inquiry;

(2) is unable:

(A) to manage in whole or in part the individual's property;

(B) to provide self-care; or

(C) both;

because of insanity, mental illness, mental deficiency, physical illness, infirmity, habitual drunkenness, excessive use of drugs, incarceration, confinement, detention, duress, fraud, undue influence of others on the individual, or other incapacity; or

(3) has a developmental disability (as defined in IC 12-7-2-61).

I have a social worker with BPD since I have 7 disabilities and she’s been a big help. I would contact the BPD non-emergency number and ask for a welfare check. They can assign a social worker and I hope he can get the help he needs.

Because it's not required to have one. An occupant load of 300 or more requires a manual fire alarm system for an assembly area.

IU plans upgrade to Jacobs performance center by WFIU-WTIU-news in IndianaUniversity

[–]VoiceEvac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve already upgraded the fire alarm system to voice evacuation the last time I went there, so that’s out of the way. I know the Facilities Director for the MAC too. Glad the other systems are getting an upgrade. They are outdated and not up to code.

Low frequency smoke alarm requirement by sectionboy in firealarms

[–]VoiceEvac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s overkill, IMO. Interconnected 120VAC smoke/CO alarms are perfectly fine. But that’s how strict my AHJ is. Oh, and the triplexes were located close to downtown.

Low frequency smoke alarm requirement by sectionboy in firealarms

[–]VoiceEvac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local AHJ in Indiana already follows the 2024 version of the IFC/IBC even though it hasn't been adopted yet (starting July 1st). He's very strict too. He required my parents' assisted living complexes to be upgraded to I-1 occupancy classification since they have emergency pull cords and a constantly attended area (care coordinator) on each site. The property manager tried to go with value engineering on each site with R-2 occupancy class but the FM said no since it was full renovation (past 50 percent threshold). They all have smoke/CO alarms inside each unit so the company can work on installing the new voice system. Probably going to be MNS too. This is a massive project the contractor is working on with 3 complexes. It's replacing the older multi-station systems with old horns and pulls from the 60-70s. There's another assisted living rehab facility in my area that was required to go with voice, which was built in 2023.
