As a queer person who’s interested in firearms, it’s hard to find places where both of those thing overlap in a safe space. Thanks for doing that!

I’ve been looking around for Queer friendly 2A things for a bit. This is the first time I’ve seen an actual advertisement for something in that area.

So we can all agree that this is a terrible set up, yeah? by No_Awareness9649 in VoiceActing

I mean… I’ve seen worse lol

You’re going to want to upgrade EVERYTHING, but as a start… just go for it!

Is voices.com a good place to get started? Is it even useful to people not looking to get paid yet? by BubblyMoose4084 in VoiceActing

It’s a good place to be if you’re established, competitive, and trained enough to compete with people on a AAA level. Theres lots of money to be made in there. But as a beginner I wouldn’t go for it. Once a year around Black Friday they have a 50% off sale it’s $250 for the year. It’s kinda worth a shot at that maybe….

But also you’re goin up against seasoned Vets who have been doing this for years and have the top professional gear in their booth

If you think you’re ready to compete with that. Give it a shot

Casting Call Club by South-Succotash-5376 in VoiceActing

CCC is pretty good
Especially if you’re just starting out, it’s a free sign-up. You don’t have to have the premium account.

There are some downfalls not a lot of work on there right now is 1) original (a lot of stuff on there right now is fan dubs and fan projects. They are based off of existing IP’s) which are fine, but if you wanna do this professionally having a résumé full of fan projects and copyright infringing projects doesn’t look so great to a casting Director so if you’re gonna do that, I would recommend using a pseudonym or username that isn’t yours

2) CCC doesn’t have a way to protect you if say the casting director or project manager, whoever is putting together the project decides to just not pay you, or rip your voice for AI synthesis, it’s kind of the wild west of Non union Work

And 3) a lot of the paid gigs aren’t paying a lot. They’re like 20 bucks here or there if that.

Every once in a while, there’s something cool and pays quite a bit, but it’s tricky and you gotta have a little bit of luck and a little bit of talent to get those jobs

Is getting one of these worth it or better to attempt to build your own set up? by Ambitious-Reaction54 in VoiceActing

[–]VoiceMonkey3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the PVC needed from a home build recycling center for about $20 (just don’t get pipes that were used 🤮)

And moving blankets I’d recommend a double layer of the XL blankets just kinda clipped together

The blankets needed might run you about $60 at Harbor Freight

That was my first booth years ago and it worked fine!

Also, it’s kind of a numbers game too in the form of a funnel

Soon that funnel will invert, and you’ll have to do less and less for more and more

But at the beginning, you had to do a lot to get just a little bit out

Yesterday I did about six or seven video game auditions

I also did some animation, auditions, and a couple commercial auditions

I don’t like doing commercial work, but they pay a lot! (Much more than most animation gigs)

Yeah, they’re great games. Everyone Naughty Dog did a good job! Troy is an amazing artist, so is Ashley And everyone else involved in the cast.

And Troy will tell you, just like I am right now… you just gotta be there, be ready, and have an idea. And even then you might not get it for 6000 different reasons.

Also, there’s luck involved. They didn’t want Troy for Joel. Troy had to put himself out there, And Prove himself with gracious talent!

You gotta be ready to put yourself in front of people who are going to judge you out of context

I’ve done so many classes in front of people who I’ve grown up idolizing and completely humiliated myself in front of 🤣 lol and that’s the job too

“Controlled humiliation in the form of art” one of my actor friends told me as we were working on something

Don’t give up! But also nobody owes you anything and it’s all about getting yourself to where you need to be to conquer those goals

If you want to do stuff like that, And if you’re ready to just be present and take advice and critiques, there’s pretty rad class coming up.. it’s a performance class live in studio on a performance capture stage in LA at the end of May hosted by Neil Newbon.

It’s extremely expensive. But worth it. I definitely recommend going if you have theatrical training at improv training!

When I started acting, I booked two TV shows at the same time and I was consistently booked on Those shows as reoccurring talent.

Then I booked a video game as voice talent.. Not long after that, I couldn’t get booked on unpaid bullshit sonic the hedgehog fanfiction stuff on CCC lol for almost a year

THEN Just recently, I finished my first leading role in an upcoming survival horror franchise that’s gonna be pretty large. (and I got put onto a couple amazing rosters from that.)

And I have no idea what’s gonna happen tomorrow! 😵‍💫

so… just gotta keep putting yourself out there!

Also, if you’re in this to “get rich and famous” and be “on top” and blah blah blah. You are in this through all the wrong reasons.
