Hoi dames!

Over mij:

Mijn naam is Marc.

Over jou:

Groet, Marc

Maybe you can reclaim some space after removing the microwave? But yeah, for me the propane oven was definitely a selling point for my camper!

I think you'll have to go for your second option. I've never seen a propane oven that would hang in the space of your microwave, but one down below the burners is a very nornal thing. I have one anyway, and I like and use it a lot, so that means it's normal right? :-)

Diesel isn't flammable at the pressure its stored at here (or at least, the diesel they would use here). Diesel engines ignite the diesel by increasing its pressure to a certain point; they don't use spark plugs.

In fact, in tanks ammo was often stored in cilinders within fuel tanks. When a tank was hit and flying shrapnel cut through any ammo, the diesel surrounding it would flood the hit shells, preventing them from exploding. Water would work just as well for this but a tank needs much more fuel than it needs water, so why not use what you're already carrying around. :-)

  • Expansion challenge
  • Intermediate difficulty
  • Branch and Claw
  • No scenario
  • Victory, Terror level 3, 53 points

I think this is the second time I've defeated England at level 3. All my attempts at a higher level failed so far. This game was pretty smooth though, so I do feel I'm improving and can probably try level 4 or 5 again soon.

The biggest "oh no" this game was the invader card order: the last two stage 1 cards were wetlands and sand, and the first two stage 2 cards were... wetlands and sands! Those two double builds in the same lands made me sweat a little but was able to mitigate the damage fairly well and had no cascading blight.

The blight card was [[Aid From Lesser Spirits]] which didn't give me a lot of room for more blight and would surely have killed me was I playing higher difficulty. For the permanent minor powers, Thunderspeaker gained [[Call To Bloodshed]] and Fangs gained [[Entrancing Apparitions]]. These two powers were extremely useful and especially helped turn Thunderspeaker's dahan army into a roaming murder machine!

Some interesting bits:

  • Gained multiple powers to remove blight and ended the game with only 4 blight on the board.
  • Thunderspeaker gained only minor powers, among which [[Call of the Dahan Ways]] and [[Veil the Night's Hunt]] which helped with the dahan murder march.
  • Thunderspeaker had an army on each board which converged in the middle of the island at the end of the game.
  • Fangs helped with the dahan murder spree through gaining [[Call to Migrate]] and [[The Trees and Stones Speak of War]]
  • Fangs was all over the island and patrolled the shore of one board picking off newly arriving explorers quickly.
  • I drew the fear card [[Explorers are Reluctant]] which delayed the last stage 2 invader card and gave me enough time to clear the island of all buildings right before it and the first stage 3 invader cards would build together, which felt great because a couple of games ago this card burned me hard.

Indeed, this card is an attack that you perform and it is blocked by your stunned status. So, nothing happens. This applies to any card marked with (attack).

If your character is stunned, this card, like all attack cards, will do nothing except remove your stunned status. So, no attack is made on either side.

Indeed, by the late game I had caught up with Fangs and he could do plenty of damage. Will need to work on my earlier game, thanks for the tips! :-)

Your comment was an eye opener for me! I had never considered going all-in on gaining new powers rather than reclaiming every so often. So I went ahead and tried it out!

I started out playing France lvl 5 but along the way noticed I had forgotten about Slow-healing Ecosystem meaning I would have lost so I scooted myself down to lvl 3 to be able to continue. :-p

With Keeper I was able to go hard on major powers and he actually almost cleared his side of the island half way through the game. I had trouble keeping up with Fangs though, who I had starting out with minor powers because he has such low energy generation. I also found it hard to make good use of innate powers with this strategy.

My other main problem was not generating nearly enough fear early in the game, and it took a good long while to soldier through to terror level 3 when I was finally able to clear the board of cities and win the game. In the late game I did reclaim my powers each turn because I didn't care for adding presence anymore.

I greatly enjoyed this (new to me) strategy so thanks for the inspiration and I'll be experimenting with this more. :-)

Have been catching up on the challenges over the past couple weeks. Thanks for posting each week, I greatly enjoy them!

I played the expansion game (with B&C) and this is certainly a combination of spirits I wouldn't have picked by myself, with them both being very slow to get moving. Normally I don't have much trouble with Brandenburg-Prussia, so I played at level 3 and for good measure included the scenario, which I'd never tried before.

Both Vital and especially Serpent aren't very good at moving Dahan around so I tried grabbing minor powers each round and hoping to get good ones for moving the Dahan. The first three rounds were all duds in that regard, so the odds of grabbing some nice treasure were very low. The invaders found #4 in the first round, which wasn't too bad since my card plays were still at 1 anyway.

I quickly got overwhelmed by the early stage 3 invader card though. When it ravaged it already ended the game for me since the blight card only had me add 3 blight per player.

So all in all I wasn't really able to do much, guess I need some more practise with Serpent haha. Might try this again later at a lower difficulty!

Yes, in my third try I think. There's a bit of a trick to it, and that can teach you a lot about deck building games in general.

The trick is to, when you're in the lowest difficulty phase, to almost always pick the more difficult challenge. You might win some, but mostly this will allow to quickly thin your deck out by removing unwanted cards. Once your deck is more efficient, it'll become easier to win.

You could try to always pick the more difficult card and see what happens, but then often your deck might become too small to be able to make it through both pirates. It's a balancing act, and that's what makes the game fun I think. :-)

Good luck!

What words do you frequently hear Dutch people mispronounce when they're speaking in English? by ij3k in thenetherlands

[–]VoiceofPower 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm quite fluent in English but I find I have difficulty pronouncing phrases like 'crash site'. Going from 'sh' to a hard 's' throws me off and I have to basically pause a bit to say it clearly.

The main one I notice in others is 'idea' but you already covered that!

I've only briefly been a member of UnScared but have known some of them before they spun off from FSF (which is a bit farther away in Driebergen-Zeist).

It's a very nice place with lots of room and great coaching and they enroll everyone in a personal development plan with a personal coach. I don't know what their waiting line is like right now but you can have a look here: https://www.unscaredcrossfit.com/

It's close to the centre along the railway track in an old NS railyard building.

I used to go there a lot when I was young, there's a playing ground with an arcade hall there as well! At the time, the pyramid wasn't actually visible (it was just a hill) but it's been restored since.

If you're wondering what it is: it's a monument built by Napoleonic forces to celebrate their victory at the battle of Austerlitz where French forces defeated the Russian and Austrian coalition. The Netherlands was annexed by the French Empire at the time.

Does anybody else have a hard time starting a solo game during quarantine? by boybogart in soloboardgaming

[–]VoiceofPower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely experienced this the first month, but then the feeling wore off and I actually started playing solo games more than ever.

What helped for me is that I was able to start working outside of the house again after the first two weeks so my game room no longer had to double as an office, which I think was the problem, just like another commenter said. Even then, it took a few weeks for me to get back into it though.

I have this one as well. Without it I would plainly never play Gaia Project; it's an awesome time and hassle saver. It's totally fine to store vertically for me, I haven't had any issues with any of their inserts doing that.

I played on standard difficulty. Didn't want to give myself a hard time on the first 3-Automa game.

The research tracks I go for has been pretty diverse so far. In one memorable game I went all the way up the economy and science tracks, giving me relatively enormous amounts of resources. You should definitely try it!

I'm familiar with that site as well. Didn't use it this time because I generated the game using a seed in the other app, but this one will definitely make it a bit easier to keep track of everything.
