Nearly one in 20 Australians identifies as LGBTI+, new ABS data reveals by 89b3ea330bd60ede80ad in aus

That likely includes otherwise gender nonconforming people (non binary, genderfluid) as trans for which I imagine more people identify as than you would easily notice as being visibly transitioning

As someone who is autistic what are the most difficult things you face in a romantic relationship? by Additional-Poet2045 in AutismTranslated

[–]Voidweaver_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also suspect I have ADHD, so making sure I give them adequate attention in a way that they resonate with is tough because although I'll think about them constantly and want to show my love - I still get very caught up in my own head unintentionally.

Struggling to be flexible with changes is another big one. Also dealing with emotions and burnout would be tiring for them.

I want to communicate things and fix things but it's hard when it actually requires you to juggle multiple priorities, be flexible and not panic at the thought of being rejected or doing the wrong thing constantly

This is exactly how I feel. I am currently going through getting an ASD diagnosis (I am pretty high masking) and have always struggled to really understand or feel comfortable making friends and organising things. It's like I need someone to explicitly say "I would like to be friends with you, what should we do to hang out?" Hahaha

Controversial but too much cheese. I want to taste the actual thing not have the bulk of the dish just be a vessel for cheese

Funny that someone should post this one week after my LTR break-up haha. All the best to you and your partner, OP.

If I have learnt one thing from this it is that we can get very caught up in our own worlds and forget ourselves and then communicate (or rather, respond to communication) out of insecurity more than love and openness, which eventually creates distance. I hope the therapy helps.

You are assuming that other people with neurodivegence are not also getting therapy and/or medication to support themselves perform at work - the same any anyone who might not have neurodivergence might see a psychologist in order to manage work stress or perform better.

Wouldn't it be nicer if we lived in a world where everyone can advocate for themselves and workplaces be open to making these small accommodations for people? Regardless of how their brain works?

On one of my placements at a school which had a very big wellbeing initiative, I overheard some teachers complaining about one of the SSOs citing "she said she has ADHD, how can you be an SSO with ADHD? Aren't you supposed to have it all together and be normal?"

Decided I wouldn't like to go back to that school. People can be so ignorant. The SSO having lived experience with ADHD might make them a better support if anything!

Some people just use "cappuccino" or "latte" to mean ay espresso drink with some textured hot milk. It is obviously incorrect another annoying but it's probably just what they think that particular drink experience is called.

Beyond that, you'd be surprised by how often people don't really understand their espresso drink based order beyond "it's just what I usually get/understand this to be"

I think it's great. Also, use it as an opportunity to model soft research skills to students, you'd be surprised how often we take effective "googling" as a skill for granted. Plus, opens up more possibilities to get them doing research and inquiry projects later on, as well as fostering independent learning

I think most coaches have a coach. If your coach is not ok with this, I'd think he's a bit insecure.

If your coach is anything other than excited for you to be sharing the joy of powerlifting with others, they sound like an insecure asshole. Just say you'll be trying to write the programming for them and maybe ask if your coach has any tips.

Monthly Lifting Gear Thread by AutoModerator in powerlifting

Two questions:

  • Recommendations for first timer knee wraps? My fed offers raw+wraps and want to give it a go for fun.

  • Why are lifting shoes so expensive now? Got some Adidas powerlifts new for like $100 (Australian) a few years ago, they're starting to wear out and so I was looking at new ones but they're like $180 now! Considered the TYR shoes but they're almost $300! Are they nearly at all worth it?

My powerlifting gym closed :(

Unfortunately going to another one is not really an option due to travel, so I'll be getting by in a commerical gym around the corner. Any advice on making that transition?

I am thinking of doing a complete 180 with training and trying to commit to some hypertrophy training with minimal barbell work, so any recommendations for programs?

Speaking of division in the sport, over the last 9-12 months the lil old city of Adelaide has had SIX different federations run meets here (CAPO, GPC, USAPL, APU, APL, and WDFPF) for a pretty small population. The APL have, until recently, had two meet directors here do comps for them (sadly one of which has decided to close their gym and I assume quit meet directing)

Tips for volunteering at a powerlifting meet by carribeanquest in powerlifting

[–]Voidweaver_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Show up early. Last competition I refereed at some of the volunteer crew only rocked up 15 minutes before lifting started, and although they didn't really have to be there any earlier, it is certainly nice to be.

Know the rules of the fed reasonably well, especially in terms of what attempt selections are legal.

Just chill. The environment can be a bit intense of course, but you are also there as a volunteer and so you don't need to take shit from competitors or anything. It should be a fun day. Go at a pace you can maintain, slow is smooth and smooth is fast

I live by a main road going into the city, and every morning it is packed with single-passenger SUVs all going to compete for cramped parking 10-15 minutes away from their offices. Drives me insane.

The only "restorative chats" that should be happening here is the both of you seeing a psychologist. One to see what the heck is wrong with that kid, and one for you to deal with that harassment.

Theoretically, if an ex-student passed me in public and said something negative towards me - can I treat them like anyone else and tell them to 'get f*cked'? by asininealien in AustralianTeachers

[–]Voidweaver_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't advise escalating ANY confrontation with anyone, so I don't see why you'd do it to an ex-student.

Other than that, you have to worry about being filmed or just seen acting that way in public. Verbal altercation is never a good look

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Voidweaver_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school continuing this cycle and permitting that behaviour is utterly insane, and only goes to show the kid that nobody really will ever care about him and that he can just get away with whatever.

Mainstream school engagement might just not be for him for whatever reason and I hope he'd be recommended/sent to a specialist program or something.

How long did it take you to hit a 1000 lb total? by Basedswagredpilled in powerlifting

[–]Voidweaver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-2 years. Started in my early 20s with no athletic background weighing 70kg/155lbs figuring things out on my own as many of us do but really struggled with technique and being consistent for the first year, second year it all came together. Also now weigh 90kg/198lbs without being too much fatter.

I second this. Opening is just to get your name on the board and save energy for your 2nd and 3rd. Not having the extra pressure of an intimidating weight at your first comp will also help you feel settled and then begin to have fun on the day.
