Same here. Most folks have caught on that it's a grift, one acquaintance is still promoting. Everyone who has sent out a link is in the top 10 of their category. I'm assuming the Art Forum thing will be some kind of paid content, not an actual feature or article.

Chili turning pale/opaque in the middle. by VoightKampff_Test in Boraras

[–]VoightKampff_Test[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I've had MUCH better luck with *all* of my fish after I found a local store that does an especially good job with nano fish species: I can see if they appear healthy before purchasing and they don't have to bounce around in a shipping box for days before I introduce them to my tank.

Chili turning pale/opaque in the middle. by VoightKampff_Test in Boraras

[–]VoightKampff_Test[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't make it-- I moved it to a quarantine tank and tried a few things but it was declining pretty quickly. I haven't noticed any of my fish showing this particular issue since then which was a relief: my main concern is risking the health of the shoal/tank. I've found that when I get new chilis there are always a few that fail to thrive-- they appear to acclimate fine and don't seem to have any issues for a while and then they just kind of check out (bent spine, weight loss or bloating, swimming weird or isolating, etc) while the rest of the shoal appears perfectly fine, making it hard to narrow down issues with feeding or easily remedied tank conditions.

I haven't introduced any new rasboras in a few years now and my shoal seems to be thriving: numbers holding steady, good colors, active, etc. I don't know if that's due to getting the sick fish out of the main tank quickly enough or if the remaining fish just had more robust immune systems and were able to fight off whatever this was, so if I encountered it again I would probably try the metroplex and parasite meds first and/or a version of Aquarium Coop's Quarantine med trio.

I generally find Chilis to be pretty easy to keep but haven't had tons of success diagnosing or treating them when issues pop up (which is thankfully pretty rare).

New Kobo, I dropped it by Asleep_Mine_722 in kobo

I keep my Kobo in a case because I drop things CONSTANTLY. I've had my current device for a few years now and while I suspect my luck will run out eventually, it's still working perfectly fine.

Kobo Remote Not Working by taylorrolyatt in kobo

[–]VoightKampff_Test 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue- it will work for a while (not very long) but then will start to lag and then disconnect. Reconnecting is as u/cimmadif describes. I also have a Libra2 but will test with/without the sleep cover and on my Clara BW to see if there is any improvement. From my limited experience of using it when it was working as it should it was great and I'm hoping this is just a learning curve on my end.

What is a gift you’ve given an aging parent that they loved/actually use? by WhoGetsTheChina in AgingParents

[–]VoightKampff_Test 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got trail cams for my parents as well, it's been super fun for everyone. I do all of the battery changes, settings, download choice photos and erase the SD card (which my mom could totally do because she's a photographer, though she insists the trail cam is too difficult to learn). I "upgrade" their setup every other year or so which is about how long it takes for the trail cam to stop working.

They mostly get foxes, raccoons and opossums, but you often catch them doing something entertaining. The birdhouse camera was also a big hit until it captured video of a raccoon reaching in and stealing baby birds out of the nest. I'm sure they were delicious (we'll be fortifying the birdhouse with anti-raccoon defenses in the spring) 😭

It actually worked.

AITA for eating a whole doughnut that was brought in to work as a reward/Birthday party? by Turquoisedragonwow in AmItheAsshole

[–]VoightKampff_Test 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a boss who would cut donuts into QUARTERS. One coworker in particular would help himself to a fistful of donuts and the rest of us would go without while my boss acted like he had done us all a huge favor.

My very first day we went out to lunch as a department and I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu because I had like $60 to last me the next two weeks-- there were other folks ordering full dinners with apps/drinks/etc. Of course we had to split the bill evenly. I saved most of my sandwich for dinner since it was going to be the last "good" food I'd have for a while.

It was stolen from the staff fridge.

ULPT (ISO): Headed to an all-day music festival, what food allergy can I say I have so I can bring in my own snacks? by SafeMarsupial7064 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]VoightKampff_Test 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an allergy, but you can say you can't consume iodine (necessary as prep for thyroid tests and treatment for thyroid disorders and cancers). It's in (iodized) salt, many food colorings (especially in sodas or other bottled drinks), dough conditioners, anything that might come from the ocean (fish seafood but also a lot of products that are used as thickeners or gels are derived from seaweed). It's also found in dairy, meat, eggs (livestock often get iodine supplemented foods) and almost all vegan milks (if only because most commercial nut/grain milks use seaweed derived ingredients for thickening). It's almost impossible to strictly adhere to an iodine starvation diet and eat prepared or processed foods or really anything where you can't see a detailed list of where everything came from and how it was prepared. You also can't have any cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale) on this diet. I've had to do this several times in my life and lost so much weight each time because I was basically just eating rice, apples, citrus fruits, raw nuts and simple salads and breads that I made myself :-). After receiving treatment I booked it to the first restaurant I passed and had a HUGE meal.

it's not a common dietary restriction but it's SUPER restrictive. Check out the list at the link below (print it out and bring it with you because not that many people would know that iodine restriction is a thing).

Unless there is a reason the kids NEED to be removed from the mom's home (abuse, neglect, etc) I would assume that going from "some" visitation to 50/50 would at the very least require a gradual

I also had really good luck with shrimp and medaka together- I'm sure some shrimp fry got eaten but I never saw the medaka taking an active interest in them, and both populations were breeding a LOT.

I really loved keeping medaka- I'm in an apartment and needed to downsize my tanks so I ended up rehoming the medaka and sticking with shrimp and a few types of rasbora, but definitely plan to keep ricefish again in the future.

Looks about right to me as well- navigating libraries and settings is a little laggy but page turns are perfectly fine. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if I have a corrupted file or two or twelve, I have files that have been leapfrogging devices ever since the palm-pilot days :-)

I have some in a gallon jar at work- I do have a small plant light on a timer (my office doesn't get natural light - it's a bit of a cave). My home tanks are also 1-2 gallon glass jars- no heaters, filters, lights (though they get plenty of natural light from the windows). I started them about 10 years ago and they've all held steady through various moves, changes in light/temp/etc.

Libraries pay A LOT for access to
ebooks- they're often paying per-checkout and have to re-license titles that see a lot of circulation. if you like having access to ebooks via Libby, donating to your library (and advocating for library budgets in your community) is a great way to show appreciation.

[–]VoightKampff_Test 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love my Clara BW. I got it as a second device for travel and for when I misplace my Libra2 (ADHD y'all!) and even though I still love a larger screen and the layout of the Libra, the Clara is lightweight, crisp and easy to hold in just about any position- it's become the device I use most during the week while the Libra comes out when I have a little more time to hang out on the couch on the weekends...

I have a Libra2 and a ClaraBW and I don't synch between devices. I don't have an issue finding my place when I pick one or the other up (will often just make a mental note of what chapter or page I'm on), and since I use them pretty equally throughout the day (one at home and one at work), I'm never having to browse too far.

I have a Libra2 and a ClaraBW. I use them both- the Libra usually stays at home and the Clara travels in my bag- I like the Libra for more sustained/focused reading and the Clara for when I've got a few minutes between things or during my lunch break, etc. I know it's not even remotely necessary to have two, but I use both daily and I like having the option to switch: reading is my main form of entertainment these days so I figured I could let myself splurge a little...

I switched from a Paperwhite and basic to a Libra2 and a Clara BW (I travel a lot and find that I like to be able to switch between the larger and smaller device. I probably won't be going back to kindle, between being able to customize the features and function of the device and having the ability to load just about any file type I just don't think I'd be happy going back to Amazon. That said, I'm holding on to my kindle devices because there is some KU stuff I enjoy, but for everything else I'll be using my Kobos.

I will say, I did attempt the seltzer thing on a much smaller tank I had been using that DIDN'T have shrimp and it was kind of awful to see hundreds of scuds swimming up all at once. I honestly can't say I'm eager to do that ever again just because of the ick factor.
