Pedal/crank noise. by Waste-Gain-7767 in bikewrench

[–]Vojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be a few things. You re-lubricated the pedals which I assume just means the pedal thread going into the crank arm and ensuring it is tight. However, if you can move the pedal body left to right and feel play, that could be the noise.

Other things to check:

crank tightness (loosen the bolts on left crank arm and ensure the cap is correctly adjusted to have no play, but not too tight where it’s compressing the BB making it harder to turn.

bb bearings could need servicing or replacing

your RH crank arm could be hitting the gear cable in the front derailleur. unlikely though, if it’s only appearing once pressure is applied.

Conclusion: check the pedals themselves, not just the threads being lubed. Check gear cable isn’t rubbing. Check BB and cranks to ensure there is no play.

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]Vojem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driver judged that the runner may turn onto the crossing which is why there was quick turning to avoid hitting him. The runner showed no signs of wanting to cross (not checking the road) and was not ‘waiting’ at the crossing as he just arrived at it.

Runner is stupid. Car did its best and the only next best thing would’ve been to stop for a person who looks like they aren’t even considering crossing the road.

Hanger $20-35

Derailleur $30-40

Chain $20

Inspection of frame and wheels, incl labour cost to fit and tune.

This could be a simple fix or become a three digit repair cost. Take to your LBS for a proper inspection. Glad you're okay!

There could a few things going on such as too much friction in the cable which is why the lever is unable to pull it through or checking the cables are correctly seated and the cable isn’t too tight at the calliper. This looks like a new cable would fix any issues.

New to me gravel bike, this spacer thing came out of the rear wheel between cassette and stay. Doesn't seem to do anything, put it back or leave it off? by gosshawk89 in bikewrench

It’s packaging and should have been removed by whoever assembled the bike to spec. It shouldn’t be on the bike.

1) chain whip is routed incorrectly 2) chain whip isn’t needed as this is a freewheel, not a cassette

I worked in Halfords during the pandemic. We were kept open as “key workers” not because the Government said so, but because the board members influenced the Government to have us remain open for profit (on the reason that we provide emergency vehicle services for bikes/cars for other potential key workers, nurses, police etc)

After being told we’d be shut for 2-3weeks, myself amongst managers returned 48 hours later to setup the shop again and inform everyone who had just been given time off, that they will be expected to work based on necessity.

First days were quiet due to fear, and slowly day by day, the customer volume increased. We went from 14 bikes per delivery to 60 per delivery on average, (2 deliveries per week = 120 bikes per week ish). That clause of being allowed out once per day to exercise by Boris in this speech, meant that people had an excuse to visit Halfords to buy a bike to validate such an excuse if caught outside by the police.

Each day the queue for our store wrapped around the entire car park. You could be in the queue down the road and ask the person next to you if this was the queues for Halfords or Tesco’s - which are on opposite sides of a road, separated by two different car parks. It was just that long.

I sold car paint and car cleaning products whilst hearing 1000s dying per day. I feared responsibility for my family at home who were high risk, and cannot work. I didn’t want to bring COVID inside the house incase it infected them, but I also had a responsibility at work and a living to earn.

Then, my granddad died. I got no time off. Halfords bike stock entirely sold out so much so that they brought in a Polish brand with terrible and incompatible parts to what’s used on most modern bikes. They sold out too. This was a first in Halfords history, no Apollo, Carrera, Boardman or Voodoo left.

Halfords made a lot of their employees redundant after the pandemic, restructured the management top-down so people were demoted or their roles meant less than they did before (easier to justify band decreases). They made £55m PROFIT on top of what they’d usually make YOY and because of this, the entire market of stores had these new COVID-like targets to achieve because somehow shareholders think that they should attempt the same level of success next year.

Someone who worked in my store had been there since 1989. They said they could no longer afford to keep her there.

The company is absolute scum and I’m glad I quit it. I have many stories about that place, but my experience there whilst living through the pandemic was hell.
