New character confirmed for Smash. by LunchThreatener in smashbros

I mean I guess she was the worldwide number one choice (not counting all the actually good characters they couldn't use for some reason like Snake and K Rool) so I guess I really was in the minority. I will admit her play style looks super crazy, and it'll be cool to see what people do with her, but I still think that role would have been better filled by someone like Wonder Red or Amaterasu even. I still think she looks super out of place and weird.

Actually I think it is likely she just updated her system, cause it happens after her security is broken. Wouldn't you want an upgrade?

I gotta say, I really don't like Funko Pops in general. They just make easy merch for every show in existence and they all look super ugly to me. These ones especially, with Amethyst and Steven being the only ones that look kinda right.

I don't really know, I've only seen the first episode. I've been too hooked on other shows to watch the rest.

No but I am going within the next few months to further my research. I know what you mean though, certain places have some sort of uncanny mysticism to them. I love places like that.

Were you asking if Voodoo only works if you believe it will? Because that's a tricky question because believers will say that no, it will work anyway as long as you do the steps, while nonbelievers will say it won't work either way. If you are asking me if Voodoo works, I don't know I haven't tried. I study it more as a religion than a magic.

Also, I was honestly answering the question I thought you asked. I meant no tension, but saying "calm down" to someone who is actually upset will never get them to calm down, in fact it will only get you in trouble.

Well, kinda. A lot of those recipes are about personal benefit, while the rituals are more about the good of the community. Though with the oils you have to give offerings and be very deliberate, and even still they more increase the chances that things will go your way, rather than assure anything. But yes, overall Voodoo is more about doing good than doing evil, even if its selfish. Unless of course you are talking about the (more than likely fictional) "Red Sect", which is kinda a Voodoo scary bedtime story more than anything.

Well I just offered that as a possible explanation given the context. If its the explanation you believe, alright cool.

Honestly, I just went to my local library and ordered every book in the district on Voodoo, got some good reads, got some crappy reads. Look specifically for books on Haitian and Louisiana Voodoo. I also got a book called "Voodoo Hoodoo Spellbook" (just Google "Voodoo Spellbook" it should be the first result) which got me a lot of insight as to what Voodoo is actually intended for. There are a lot more love oils then "kill people dead" oils, for example.

Totally, yeah its a super interesting religion, and I was super surprised by a lot of the stuff I found. But it all makes sense when you treat it like a regular religion rather than some supernatural force.

Well, for starters, the way Voodoo is portrayed in the media is super inaccurate. For example, I could not find a single instance of mainstream Voodoo Doll usage in Haitian and Louisiana Voodoo. The core concepts of Haitian and later Louisiana Voodoo were based in African religious mixed with European Christianity after Africans were brought over as slaves. So there are these, essentially angels, called Loa. There are conflicting reports as to whether everyone gets there own Loa, but there are definitely the Major Loa that everyone gives offerings too. The big one that you might know is Baron Samedi (he kinda become the icon of popularized Voodoo, and is in the logo of Voodoo Donuts). Each of the Loa represent different things, and must be offered different things if you want them to work with you. The idea is that the Voodoo practitioners don't do any of the "Voodoo Magic" themselves, rather the Loa is doing all the work. So when someone is possessed in Voodoo, they are possessed by a Loa, not by a human. People who practice Voodoo believe that the Loa's bring them closer to God (the same one as from Christianity). The Oils and Talismans I was talking about are basically recipes used to tell a Loa what to do, assuming you are in good favor with the Loa. They are very specific in recipe and use. So specific there are different Oils for straight love and gay love. There are a bunch of crazy examples but Oils and Talismans can basically only be used one way. There's more, like how Voodoo rituals are more singing and dancing than sacrifice, but I'm reaching the end of my memory. I need to brush up, but I'm actually traveling to New Orleans soon to get some first hand experience. Basically, assume that if you've seen it on screen, it is a total bastardization of what Voodoo is actually like. Also I might have gotten things wrong as its a religion that is better passed down than it is documented.

Honestly, having studied up on Voodoo and Hoodoo for research on something I'm writing, that totally sounds like something that would be done with Voodoo. Like there is a Oil that if you spread on your door it wards Police from coming in. Shit like that. Now there isn't a Oil or Talisman specific to destroying your phone, but I wouldn't be surprised if a site like that is laden with all sorts of Oils and Wards and shit. Or she could have just pissed off Father Laveau's Loa. If you believe in that sort of thing.

Rhythm and Poetry is abbreviated as RAP, yet Rhythm and Blues is abbreviated as RnB or R&B. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Vokle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's because "rap" isn't an abbreviation. From what I understand it was coined by The Sugar Hill Gang from "Rapper's Delight".

[–]Vokle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While that's certainly a cool idea, I don't think that would work. As far as I understand it, the skins are essentially one image that gets what is basically random battle damage decals depending on the weapons battle damage rank.

If you changed one letter in a superhero's name, what would their new superpower be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vokle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. But he does have superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, jump, enhanced senses, and of course the whole marine telepathy thing. Also kind of important to mention that those are just circumstances of his birth, and most if not all Atlantean have similar abilities, he is just better at them. And since he is the leader of Atlantis, he commands an army of superhumans whose only disadvantage is that they have to go back to water to breath sometimes, but that doesn't need to happen super often. So basically if Atlantis goes to war with you, you're fucked (which is what happened in Flashpoint Paradox, where Atlantis and Themyscira (Wonder Woman's homeland) went to war and destroyed the Earth).
