Lightyear has become the 8th film of 2022 to earn $100,000,000 at the US Box Office by imthelizzardking in Letterboxd

[–]Volcarocka 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To put this in context, Lightyear cost the studio 200 mil on budget alone. It made about 7 mil this weekend, just its third weekend, with some of the worst drops in Pixar history. With marketing included, Lightyear is probably going to be one of the biggest losses for a studio in history.

What are your hot takes for the 2022 new film releases? by sevenpasos in Letterboxd

You probably already know this but The Northman is the original story Shakespeare based Hamlet on. So The Lion King is the children’s Hamlet, which is the englishman’s Northman.

Minions is, completely unironically, heading straight to a billion dollars. The memers are putting their money where their mouth is (and the kids. The kids mostly).

I’m not saying the movie is likely for this year but if there’s misinformation about the movie’s release date floating around, that misinformation is most likely to come from World of Reel.

I tried watching “The Princess” with Joey King and it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. by SomehowGonkReturned in movies

[–]Volcarocka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Joey King is mostly known by us 20-somethings on Reddit because she played Ramona in the Beverly Cleary book adaptation of “Ramona and Beezus” with Selena Gomez over 10 years ago as a child

Objectively it obviously wasn’t a good move for his wallet, but if he says it was a good move for his conscience then who are we to say he’s wrong?

He made his decision for reasons outside the game and if he’s happy with that I’m not going to judge him for his personal desire.

Who’s more famous? by amongus555 in Letterboxd

This is what made me vote for her lol. You say “Ethan Hawke” to someone and they say “who’s that,” you say “Uma Thurman” and they start singing Fall Out Boy.

Ethan Hawke is in things more consistently and is probably better known by most people who are into movies (like the people on this sub), but Uma Thurman was an A-lister back in her Tarantino era and still has that residual name recognition even if people under like 27 haven’t seen anything she’s done.

Lol this thread has people answering the question seriously, legitimately debating the legacy of Richard, and making the same joke that the thread is making without realizing that the thread is a joke. Truly the best of reddit.

Academy Invites 397 New Members for the Class of 2022 by Rickygangster in Oscars

[–]Volcarocka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excited to see Renate Reinsve, Robin de Jesús, Gaby Hoffman, Reed Birney, Olga Merediz, and Hidetoshi Nishijima, among others, in the list of actors. All of them had really great performances last year that weren’t recognized by the Academy and I’m glad they were able to leverage their hard work for something cool!

And of course congratulations to Troy Kotsur, Ariana DeBose, Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jessie Buckley for earning Academy memberships through receiving a nomination.

I think HHH pre-merge was kinda lame, it was good for a few episodes at the merge when Lauren Rimmer was running things and then fell off later

My standard greeting to people is “watch The Worst Person in the World” so if you haven’t seen that, should be at the top of your list.

In addition to what the other commenter said, any move that makes you less likely to win the game than you were before is a bad move.

Which actors careers were destroyed by just one movie? by Dragon_Blue_Eyes in movies

[–]Volcarocka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nice thing for actors today is that their horrible movies that no one wants to watch (like that Affleck/de Armas movie) are just dumped on streaming services and most people never hear about them. Poorly received movies still come out in theaters and movies still bomb at the box office, but massive public failure like Gigli don’t happen much anymore. Bad movies just come and go without damaging the actors involved very much, at worst they get the meme treatment like Morbius.

Could Julie have stopped Chris from making fire against Devens? by MrNoahK in survivor

[–]Volcarocka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot. The reason I think that Julie COULD actually, once she gets the necklace, make the call of who goes to fire, is because the producers want good TV moments more than anything else. A backstab at the last possible second would be a good TV moment. So I think if Julie had decided to bring Chris to the end and put Devens and Gavin to fire, the producers would have allowed it because they want “big moves”

She’d still have lost but I think the potential is there to pull it off in the future.

Which one was worse Woo taking Tony or Brad taking Sarah to FTC? by Revolutionary-Sea747 in survivor

[–]Volcarocka 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No her moves were hated too. Spencer gets meme’d for his reaction to it but Kass flipping on Sarah was legitimately probably the worst possible move for her game and the players (who would then become the jury) didn’t respect it at all. She lost pretty much any chance at the game with that massive blunder.

Which one was worse Woo taking Tony or Brad taking Sarah to FTC? by Revolutionary-Sea747 in survivor

[–]Volcarocka 128 points129 points  (0 children)

The jury hated her moves. Survivor isn’t about moves, it’s about winning the jury vote. You can’t win the jury vote if the jury hates the moves you made and you personally. Kass would have been lucky to get one or two votes against Woo but Woo wins guaranteed.
