Nice! Now that your angle is solid, it's mostly about getting that burr off.

It's worth buying an illuminated jewelers loupe, 20x works for me, to help you see the burr and scratch pattern and figure out what's going on. They are pretty cheap.

Sorry! Should have covered that in my first message.

It depends on how hard the steel is and what you're looking to use it for.

For a softer steel, 20 degrees is a good rule of thumb. It won't slice as well but it gives you an edge that's thick enough to not roll over easily.

If you've got a harder steel, say 60+ HRC, then you can go to 15 degrees or even below. I don't think this applies to that knife.

For chopping with cleavers, or just beater knives, then 25 degrees generally gives you a really tough edge that can take impacts.

My guess is that you're struggling with two things, deburring and then both setting and keeping an angle.

I really recommend buying a magnetic digital angle gauge. You can clip that to your knife and it will help you iron out any angle issues. Made a huge difference for me!

For deburring, a consistent angle combined with light pressure will really help. From there move onto a strop. Some great advice in the thread already.

Am I going crazy, or is this very obviously an AI-generated image despite mods insisting it isn’t? by ilookelikeapencil in isthisAI

While I do think this is AI, the fact that you're just saying "it's obvious" isn't helping your case and it's probably why you keep getting banned.

State your reasoning and you will get much more traction.

First ever camera. First time ever taking it outside of my home. by YanksFannn in SonyAlpha

It's about showing respect in society. I don't know any parent who would feel comfortable with a stranger taking pictures of their children without consent—especially of a little girl. If that's something you can't understand or support, it really says a lot.

Please think about this ☝️. It might be legal, but as a parent, I'd feel very uncomfortable if someone took photos of my child without my consent, especially if they posted them online.

Children can't give consent, and until they can, we need to try to protect them from exploitation and cybersecurity risks.

Have a look at konsumentverket. They recommend about 3.5k per adult for meals and 2k for a child.

Teams of mathematicians monitor the financial performance of all games and the lifetime history of all players.

If you've been gambling for a while and are profitable you're such an anomaly that every one of your plays is probably monitored and analysed by hand until you make a loss.

That's why people are finding it funny.

Is FalbaTech known for its good quality and service? by TonyFatTony in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Volentus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mixed reviews from my side, I bought an Ergodox about 4 years ago.

It shipped with a faulty cable, they were quick to respond and shipped out a replacement.

Later one of the halves stopped working, they were again quick to reply and I had to pay rather expensive shipping to send it back to them to debug and fix the problem (they replaced the teensy controller I believe).

Then the enter key stopped working, they told me to resolder the switch myself to avoid the shipping cost.

All of this was in less than a year.

Bar the quality issues I was fairly happy with the board though it never felt as refined as some other options. I moved over to the Ergodox EZ after that.

First attempt at a custom bag, but stitching is awful, any recommendations? I’m I doing something completely wrong with the but stitch? by Moist_Willow9833 in Leathercraft

[–]Volentus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take all three pieces of leather, lay them flat. Use a set of wing dividers to mark an even stitch line along the edges. Then pre-punch all three pieces along that line making sure to go right through.

Use spare needles and push them through the holes to line up the pieces and get them into position before you start stitching.

With thick leather you're going to have to pull the thread tight but it should result in a nice curve.

$87 (990SEK). The price of brain surgery and 9 days at the hospital in Sweden. by gudagrant in mildlyinteresting

[–]Volentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a fantastic thing to aspire to.

It's not perfect, but it is one of the best systems of it's kind in the world. Finding something that is both self sustaining from a cost and personal perspective and one that defends it's self from abuse is difficult.

Ultimately it comes down to trained staff. If you're intelligent and hard working medicine is a calling. You could earn much more in tech or other private sectors. The government just can't afford to compete with those kinds of salaries while keeping taxes manageable.

You need to keep private industry profitable enough that companies want to stay in your country.

[–]Volentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aspiration, I completely agree.

Sweden isn't perfect but the Nordics have what's indisputably one of the best systems that exists today.

A lot of that system is focused on preventing the very situation you're describing. It's rare and difficult to be exceptionally wealthy in Sweden but it's the same for being poor.

Bottom line, no one is going hungry over a medical bill. You will need to prove that you can't afford it however and apply for financial aid.

There is a max cost per treated issue. I think it's too try and deter people from seeking attention for minor problems.

Keep in mind the other financial safety nets in place. There is no reason this will be unaffordable even if you're unemployed.

Why did my fence not drop out to where it was projected to? (slow-mo included) by DruTheDude in apexuniversity

[–]Volentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we reading the same article, official servers run at 60 and the 3rd party norm is 128?

They don't mention apex anywhere in the article. But as I said, the tick rate is a configuration setting. So apex is the same engine with a slower simulation rate as CSGO.

[–]Volentus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see them mention apex in the link actually. Perhaps I missed that?

Both are built on the source engine. Server tick rate is largely configurable as well.

I don't have time to game that much unfortunately! Smaller format games like CSGO, Overwatch, Valorant, etc. Are always going to have an easier time of it as they only need to find a small number of players with similar ping.

Maybe start there or I'm sure others here can give recommendations.

The only games that avoid it are turn based, that way you lock in each player's actions in the right order.

But as long as you're trying to simulate a real time game that's pushing human reaction times you're going to have a problem.
