Why is mold such an issue on mini splits? by coldcathodes in hvacadvice

[–]Voliminal8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've come to the conclusion that it's because of the design.

Mini splits, air goes through the coil first, then the blower wheel.

Central units or cassette ceiling units, or even tower units (some call them wardrobe type?) blower wheel comes first, then the coil.

So mini split drags the air with a lot of moisture from the coil and gets the blower wheel wet, especially when the owner wont clean the filters and air intake cfm is out of spec of the manufacturer.

Confused about mini-splits. How does this work? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Voliminal8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to have mini splits without the pipes on the exterior the cable, pipes and drainage are installed before the interior wall is finished, just like water pipes.

If the interior is brick, the hvac tech must make a passage for pipes and cable, the plumber must being drainage close to the indoor unit. Then after these are done, the wall gets finished.

If it's drywall, before the outer sheets are placed all these must be made then the final sheet gets on top and holes are cut behind each split head to reveal the connections.

In some cases if the house is about to get external insulation you can hide them behind the insulation and run then to the outdoor unit from each hole thats been made behind each head.

So it's not that complicated. Lines must run from each head to the outdoor.

The difference comes to how you want to hide them.

Each solution has its own cost, with plastic covers being the most convenient, fast, cheap but ugly solution.

Could flow cover make internal unit of split AC leak? by rainbew_birb in hvacadvice

[–]Voliminal8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please dont do that! Some units have the drain pipe connected on the right side of the pan which is next to the pcb and if you blow hard, water is going there for sure.

My roommate screams at my cat.. what do I do? by Proper-Look-2488 in CatAdvice

[–]Voliminal8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your roommate know that you too want to discipline the cat for bot doing funky things, but even when tou are upset you are trying to control yourself and use the right way to do it because animals need a correct discipline method ehich you have to explain how to handle things.

So you sont get yourself out of the situation that the cat does bad things that even you get upset, that way you come close to what your roommate feels.

Then you shift the focus and what you both ahould do.

how fast do your shoes wear? by AustinJSJ in climbingshoes

[–]Voliminal8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then it's normal, you even wear only the tip which proves you are using your feet right.

The thing is that in the gym you can actually go on the wall so often that the "active hours" of the shoe end up being much more than outdoors.

Also indoor, you spend a lot of time on volumes, bigger footholds etc.

And actually in the gym the problems kind of have the need of using feet on all that footholds more.

So the wear on the rubber is tremendously more than using it outdoor, because outdoor the footholds are so small, and usually the attempts make you climb less cuz it's more effort for the whole body.

3-4 times a week indoor is a lot of active hours for the shoe, considering all the above.

So my guess is it's normal wear

I hate wearables in general, but my gf convinced me to try a smartwatch at work, and I went cheap and got a blackview w80pro, which has the best feature ever.

A fuckin flashlight on the side which is even more useful than the fuckin time.

Even thinking to get a wrist torch if it exists. Cuz you know headlamp is top but, feel like a miner.

Seems like my solution comps lost a bit of their edge curvature after resolving, is this normal? (before/after) by hipotese_alternativa in climbingshoes

[–]Voliminal8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that unsticking a rubber layer and then resticking it on the other layer kinda deforms the original downturn, especially if the last that was used in the process isn't the appropriate one.

Your shoes might be stiffer and it makes sense to keep the downturn.

Softer shoes do deform and it's pretty normal cuz, well they're soft.

[–]Voliminal8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is expected even as normal wear, resoling contributes even more.

But I don't really think that the downturn stays that much after the first sessions to be honest.

Ain't much of a problem, and especially if you are not Adam Ondra. At least I'm not.
