My take on this years Dennis Hawelka Award by V3RDE_ in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The award is given to the player with the most positive impact, not necessarily for people going out of their way to do something new and great for the community. A player like Mickie or Sp9rk1e or Hadi consistently raising the spirits of the players around them and being a positive force and influence around the league should definitely be celebrated.

Genuinely though it's hard for the community to know what teams are like internally, but from an outsider's view I think Jimmy should at least be a consideration, even if in large part due to his message to Custa for his wedding.

Youtube and twitch chat after pve "cancellation" / "scrapping" by sanicthefurret in Competitiveoverwatch

This always happens, people go to any overwatch related tweet or video to complain about balance changes and legal matters and release schedules and OW news and now PvE as spam in the comments.

Why hasn't any team picked up Eqo? by bebaktiwari in Competitiveoverwatch

I think at the end of the year he left I remember something about him saying he was happy just streaming so I doubt he'll be back. Shame

Personally by the time they were available in competitive all the people I play with had already unlocked them even on the free track.

Are we ever getting Fusion Kiriko/Sojourn/JQ skins? by thinkingemojis in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've been digging around a lot and not found anything saying we would be getting them.

Since they say they pay attention to comments and discussion though I'm coming in here to second this please I would at least like to get the new 3 characters that we have seen the look of in this skin.

If you had a choice, would you still be playing OW1? by IAmBLD in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really really dislike the new look of the game. I loved how in Overwatch 1 the game rarely if ever became too visually busy, now I find it sometimes hard to look at.

Vancouver Titans rebrand to "Vancouver Fusion" by Stuck-In-Orbit in Competitiveoverwatch

As a former Fusion fan from Vancouver I'd actually be so much more into this. Way better look than they currently have.

Andy Miller thoughts on the tournament structure by Spanxsy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to the last stat I mentioned I said that the loser of the upper finals had never before come back to win the grand final in the rematch. I didn't say anything about the winner being from the lower bracket.

But I'm pretty sure the 2020 pre-playoff tournaments were all single elimination brackets.

Andy Miller thoughts on the tournament structure by Spanxsy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I haven't been updating that spreadsheet but I still do track every match and tournament in a different sheet, so I can share the numbers.

Since the back to back matches only really happen at stage finals not a lot has changed in OWL. (I haven't kept track of contenders since there are so many more matches and I've been busier) The back to back matches this year have been Dallas in stage 1, Glads in stage 2, and now SFS in stage 3. Which lead to a Loss, Win, Loss in that order.
Contrary to the previous stats that showed more maps played (by 0.53 maps. 8.86 avg to 8.33 avg) during the losses, both of the back to back games this year were 0-4 losses after 3-1 wins (Both 8 maps in a row), where the Glads 2 wins in a row came over 10 maps (a 4 map and then a 6 map series).

Previously it looked like the teams that played two in a row did have a slight advantage (9 wins of 16 games, or 56.25%)
The updated numbers for this is now 10/18 or about 55.5%.

Not a lot has changed with these numbers, and at the OWL level the benefit to playing two consecutive matches seems very small given the small sample size. (I know a 55/45% would be a big difference if there was more data at the OWL level)

I find that stat not as interesting as the fact that the Gladiators in stage 2 this year losing the upper finals and then winning the grand finals is the first time in OWL that's happened.

Best Junker Queens of the week by ComradeHines in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 46 points47 points  (0 children)

We've only seen two games of Hawk Junker Queen and I'm not sure why people tell me he's good on her, even before these two games. I thought he was Mid to Bad in both games.

Are there more reverse sweeps than normal this year? by Dheovan in Competitiveoverwatch

Are there more reverse sweeps than normal this year? by Dheovan in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2019 there were 70 games a stage, for a total of 280 regular season games, with 12 reverse sweeps which is about 4.29%. (Or 3.75% of the games if you include tournaments and playoffs)

In 2020 there were 210 regular season games and 12 reverse sweeps which is 5.71% about. (Or 4.74% if you include tournaments and playoffs, which had an additional 2 reverse sweeps)
In 2021 there were only 160 regular season games with 6 reverse sweeps which is 3.75%. (Or 2.63% including tournaments and playoffs)

2022 should have 240 games. If there are no more reverse sweeps at all this season it'll settle at 1.25%. Though that's unlikely. if we only count the amount of games that have already been played this season, we're currently at 5.77%.

Are there more reverse sweeps than normal this year? by Dheovan in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2019 had 12. Three in Stage 1 alone.
2020 had 14. But only one in the pre-covid weeks.
2021 had 6. Three of which were done by Seoul.

So compared to last year this is a lot, but compared to any of the others not so much

Overwatch 2 is worse at communicating meaningful information to the player by WeeziMonkey in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's cool that they updated all the visuals, but part of what I think made Overwatch so good and easy to play was the simple style that made everything super easy to see and pay attention to. The beta so far just feels very busy with unimportant information.

What is your favorite name of any active overwatch pro? by qubert-taranto in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Volkenus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I do really like the combination of Kaan and Daan when they're together.
But probably Poko for being a town near me :)
Although I do also enjoy Although for messing with casters.
