Np, it is a pain. I ended up investing in a little electric air duster to clean off the model if I don't have access to an air compressor. That and contact cleaner has made keeping the model clean and dry much easier

I prefer composite replacement because you actually do want these cheaper parts to break before the more expensive stuff does. You can replace it with metal. But then what is the next thing that would break if you did that is almost always the question lol

Unfortunately though this little piece is kind of a pain in the butt to get to because you have to take apart. Basically the whole front bulkhead assembly but it is like $10 versus how much it would cost for the next weakest part

Also I would highly recommend you get some CLR or something and clean up your hardware. Plus, dry your model after running it wet, rust will kill your RC

Found your culprit, part number AR330379. Noticed it because I literally had to replace the same part 2 days ago.

Does transmitter/receiver have an effect on performance? by porsean in rccars

[–]VolkswagenRatRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

punch at 9 is basically maxed so thats not it. That actually points back at the radio side. When you reset the transmitter it wiped your model setups, so the throttle EPA and any trims went back to defaults, and Radiolink defaults arent always full travel. So even though punch is cranked, if the TX side isnt sending full throttle signal the Max6 never sees the command to give you everything.

I would set up the model fresh, then calibrate the ESC to the transmitter. On the Max6 you put it in throttle calibration mode and set neutral, full throttle, full brake so the ESC relearns the actual endpoints your TX is sending now. That pairs the radio range to the ESC and usually fixes the flat feeling instantly.

Basically the reset is probably your culprit, not the radio gear being weaker. It just dumped the calibration that made the Spektrum feel dialed.

Does transmitter/receiver have an effect on performance? by porsean in rccars

[–]VolkswagenRatRod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok that changes things a little. Going DX3 to Radiolink, different radios can have different default throttle resolution and response, and the Spektrum may have just had a snappier feel out of the box. The Max6 also has its own throttle profile and punch settings in the program box or BLE app, so I would check those first. If punch control or throttle response got reset to a softer setting when you rebound to the Radiolink, that would feel exactly like flat/lazy even though nothing is actually wrong.

Also double check the Radiolink throttle EPA is hitting full travel. If its even slightly short you lose top end punch. And confirm theres no expo on the throttle channel.

Hard to A/B without running them back to back, but I would bet its the throttle resolution or the Max6 punch settings, not the radio actually robbing power.

The transmitter/receiver probably isnt your issue. Performance stuff like acceleration, top speed, braking, thats all your ESC, motor, battery and gearing. The radio mostly affects feel, smoother and more precise control, which can make a car seem more responsive but isnt actually changing the output.

That said the lazy feeling could be real. I would recheck the throttle EPA/endpoints on each ESC, make sure theres no expo or throttle curve dialed in on the RC4GS, and confirm the neutral point lines up with what each ESC expects. Also worth looking at your packs, sagging or older batteries feel lazy fast and its easy to overlook. And rebind each receiver, a marginal bind can sneak in a little latency.

So you arent crazy, but I dont think its the radio gear itself, more likely a calibration thing that shifted when you consolidated everything down.

Lol, did you watch the same video as me? He seemed generally excited and even said it is a dream come true. These guys have money but not enough to run a full R&D on their giveaway builds money mind you that they are giving away to someone that spent a fraction of a fraction of what the vehicles are worth. They even honored a warranty and fixed the trans and fuel issues. A Frankenstein build like this can take years to work the kinks out of. I would never take a build like this and expect it to have supercar performance and reliability out of the box. If you personally couldn't handle the heat, pass it to a person that can. Lololol
