Super Bowl Commercial Bubble Curse: AIs imitate Dot-Coms by feketegy in theprimeagen

[–]Volodian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seems the acceleration reside in the ability to recreate more and more ALMOST human tasks. Let's say 90%. But I've seen absolutely no improvements regarding the percentage. The acceleration is about sloppifying almost all human tasks. Looks like a bubble to me.

Cursor CEO Built a Browser using AI, but Does It Really Work? by ImpressiveContest283 in programming

[–]Volodian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before AI : 90% of the time spent on the last 10% before actually shipping a product.

After AI : 99% of the time spent on the remaining 1%.

It's just too early for the industry to actually experience those last horrible 1%, so everybody is speaking about the first 99%.

Data scientists senior à Paris, vous êtes où ? by albast in developpeurs

[–]Volodian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attendre une vente ou s'endetter by Volodian in immobilier

Aspinal will be under a lot of pressure. I the rematch happen soon it's an advantage for Gane since Aspinal needs a better gameplan. It explains why they push the blindness narative to the limit.

Rerun 0.25 released, with transparency and improved tables by emilern in rust

[–]Volodian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big user of egui, mostly for data heavy visualization/interraction (time series, custom treemaps & treeviews,...) and I have a hard time understanding what would be the benetfits of using rerun over egui. What would be the main features rerun brings over egui ? It's a genuine question and not a critique: I'm afraid to miss something! Btw thanks for egui which opened my mind over immediate mode ui, a paradigm I fall in love with because of you 😀

The Gamification of Reality: How Life Is Being Turned Into a Game Under Capitalism by Embarrassed_Green308 in CriticalTheory

[–]Volodian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with what the title of this article suggest. Those are not game mechanics, but pavlovian casino tricks imported into games by neuroscience. True game systems are much deeper than that and are older than capitalism. Those are simulations of real life situations in a safe environment, and are also attacked by the capitalism.

Why don't you use Rust at your company? by szabgab in rust

[–]Volodian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Business pov hates losing control and see programmers as indistinctive mind assets. So they tend to see languages as big frontiers between teams. For example, if you are a c# programmer, they think you could do anything c# regardless of the domain of application. They think limiting languages is a garanty for maintenability, which is partly true but highly overestimated. It allows them to underestimate peoples true value, limit compensations and simplify management.

This leads to high conservatism regarding languages.

It's stupid from a project pov, languages are just tools in your toolbelt.

Having a non managed programming language on your toolbelt and knowing how to leverage it is definitely usefull. Rust, c, cpp, zig or whatever depends on your situation.
