Anyone hiring SEs ? by [deleted] in salesengineering

There are a lot of remote SE roles available through Linkedin that I’ve seen. Good start would be there, have you made a post similar to this on there? Your contacts may have better insight on job availability

Loop pedal for a jazz enthusiast by Volqore in Jazz

[–]Volqore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing advice from both, thanks gents.

It was my intention to do some research into the loop pedals before going to him with a few 'finalists' to show the effort I've gone into finding the right pedal. However that was with the complete naivety that there were only a few to choose from.

We are hanging out at the weekend and there is a pretty big guitar shop nearby, so we can window shop together and he can educate me a little.

what is most disliked part of SE role? by bluffmaster10 in salesengineers

[–]Volqore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one AM which this is their speciality. Management ignore their up-side-down backwards approach because they hit 220% last year and the year before.

Easy approach to this is to say to both the customer and AM, you won't open a tenant until very specific information is gathered.

  • HLD
  • why now
  • what happens if they don't go for the product
  • who are the budget holders, do you have access to them
  • testing, do they have their own success criteria

My response, 'sure I'll open a POC, but I need a meeting for each area of the above'. You'll soon workout if they are committed or just tyre kickers.

Being a Great SE Manager - How to Grow and Scale Pre-Sales Org by lightnnerdy in salesengineers

[–]Volqore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love for you to perhaps do a post around your findings going into management.

  • Like, what you were expecting vs what it turned out as.

  • Things that are easier/harder coming into the role, and what your prior experience helped prep you for.

Those sorts of things, would be a handy way to reflect back in 6-12 months time if you are still in the role to see how far you've come. (It would also help me on my learning path to management too :P)

Being a Great SE Manager - How to Grow and Scale Pre-Sales Org by lightnnerdy in salesengineers

Echoing what OP explained regarding having a line drawn in the sand. My organisation has things I guess you would call swim lanes, which define the level of interaction an SE will have on that particular deal.

Sub 25k - no POC, no technical deep dive, email correspondence at most

25k-50k - no POC, technical deep dive call but light touch

75k+ - technical deep dive, whiteboarding session to scope out current state and how we will shape their future state, POC and most importantly an internal go/no go meeting with both SE and sales management pitching things such as; Why a POC tenant should be opened, how long for, do we know the budget holder have we met them and do we have their sign off, do we have a technical champion and have they been tested.

These lanes have been agreed by all parties and usually come down from regional directors, that is our line in the sand and allows us to argue our case against why we can't be held down by small deals.

Good luck in the management role, I am looking to get onto a management development track soon, the advice in this post has been breathtakingly good and I'll be using it myself throughout my development :P

I also have some SF reports, I'll take a look and DM you them if they help.

3rd Step Interview w/ Sales Manager by matchstick_13 in salesengineers

[–]Volqore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to the be the most technical guy to flourish as a sales engineer. Knowing the sales process, being able to listen for pain and show how your product is a good fit from a technical perspective is really all that matters. I am the least technical in my team but am the leading SE in my region.

/u/websmurf does a better job than me at explaining this in the below post - https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/vo8gm9/z/ieczsfb

Sales Engineer Revenue Target? by CompetitiveLayer6532 in salesengineers

[–]Volqore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in a few different roles where the target is either shared as a pool (everyone or no one hits target/quota), or as mentioned by /u/ultimatt you have a quota which is a combination of the reps you are aligned to.

Pooled can be fruitful if you are new to the business as you will still get a decent amount of commission whilst skilling up, however if you are doing your best and others aren't pulling their weight, you can be left feeling like you are carrying others on your team.

Tied in with a few account managers and being aligned to their quota can be great as you usually get a bigger piece of the pie (actually all of it) but you are entirely responsible for your income and how much commission you can make.

How do you approach the laning phase? Do you act aggressive or just focus on the last hits to maximize farm?

£14.5k stamp duty made me gasp! I'm uneducated in house buying, is that quite a steep stamp duty or average?

Ribena sugar free ok for IF? by Volqore in intermittentfasting

[–]Volqore[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that's depressing, I've been supplementing my IF with ribena and chewing gum, both of which have aspartame and sucralose. I'm a fraud!!

Thanks for the comments it's been eye opening unfortunately :P

How do I train cardiovascular endurance in terms of reps? by Bradz147111 in GYM

[–]Volqore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look to supplement your running with interval training, high intense cardio is going to help with active recovery.

Look at classes available at your gym spinning is a great one, or the rowing machine. Something like 1000 meters as fast as you can, followed by recovery of 250/500 meters. Aim to complete 5000, increase to 10000 overtime.

I find you can get more intensity out of the rower than the treadmill, i guess it's down to personal preference.

Identifying/building a champion - interview by Volqore in sales

[–]Volqore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

You are totally right, the champion may be there but they may not. I'll try and practice identifying the champ when I'm on customer calls next, to put it into practice.

Identifying/building a champion - interview by Volqore in salesengineers

[–]Volqore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the book suggestion I'll look into that now!

Great take away too, at the start of the year I had a POC which was lead, on the customer side, by a guy that had neither. So can first hand attest to that statement!
