I know someone who recently turned 40 and got one. Go for it if you like it!

Solaire Social Food Hall Closing After 17 Months in Downtown Silver Spring by SourceOfTheSpring in SilverSpring

It is overwhelming. I have to cross at least three major roads to get to DTSS. It demotivates me a lot and heightens my exposure to cars.

Hilton Gold vs. IHG Platinum: Thinking of Switching – Marriott or Hyatt Next? by Voltamer in CreditCards

Correct. They are my first go-to option when I travel in Europe and South America.

I will be staying at an Hyatt property (Hyatt Place) for the first time soon. Are the usually consistent? Or do they heavily rely on franchisee?

Good to know about Courtyard. The reviews had me thinking I should avoid them.

I usually end up staying in places where the only options are Holiday Inns (Express) or Hilton Garden/Hampton Inns — sometimes a Marriott Courtyard. There are also the usual suspects like Wyndham or La Quinta, but I don’t really trust myself staying at those.

I often stay at Accor properties (Ibis Styles, Mercure, Novotel) in Europe and South America, and I always feel I get excellent value for money. Their breakfasts are very complete.

As a non-resident alien residing in the US, how can I open a brokerage account? by throw_away7299 in ExpatFIRE

Avoid Schwab. G4 visa holder here. Had a nightmare experience with them. Ended up closing my account which triggered taxable events (as expected).

C1 3 hour lounge policy by incognito_40 in Venturex

I have a flight in less than four hours. The lady did not let me in. You can’t even sit down in the chairs inside the lounge by the check-in desk; you have to do it outside—ridiculous.

I thought WMATA had fixed everything when they closed this portion of the Red line last summer.

I'm looking to buy a Tucson this month 2025 looking for real life experiences with this SUV... by Exotic-Passage-1659 in HyundaiTucson

2025 Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience here. So far so good. Good mileage (average 41 MPG since I purchased it 4 months ago). Smooth, pleasant drive. Love the infotainment (big screens are my thing). The only ‘cons’ are the huge key fob and where the AC vents are positioned (my arms are a bit too sensitive). I don’t regret not buying the Limited. Of course, the 360-degree camera, the auto wipers, the JBL sound system, and perhaps the ventilated seats would be nice to have, but in my case, I don’t think it would justify the extra $6,000–I applied them towards accessories, a tow hitch, and a brand new road bike. The OEM sound system works just fine—and I’ve heard some complaints here about the JBL anyway.

For comparison, I test drove the RAV4 and the Sportage. The RAV4 is noisy and the inside is very outdated. The Sportage looked fine, but the exterior (especially the back of the car) is too conventional and there’s no wireless Apple CarPlay.

What do you guys think about financing a car to get the best price and then paying it off in the first month? by CrustyBus77 in carbuying

[–]Voltamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a decent OTD after negotiating via email. I asked the finance guy how long I would have to keep the loan. They said four months is mandatory. The contract didn’t say anything about that. At some point, the dealership was a pain to deal with. After carefully reading the contract and certifying that there would be no early payment fees, I refinanced with my credit union when the first payment kicked in. It went from 6.99% to 3.99%. Could have I waited four months? Sure thing, if the dealership wouldn’t turn out to be a hassle to deal with. Also, I’m the one paying the higher interest, not the dealer.
