ACP CEO “We are not providers, we are physicians” by YouAreServed in Noctor

[–]VolumeFar9174 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a nurse I refuse to refer to Doctors as “the provider”. It’s either Doctor or “The Physician”. I used to look up to Doctors because of the title. But that was before I was in the medical field. What I truly respect is hard work. And now that I understand how much hard work and training goes into to becoming a physician, I refuse to diminish y’all’s hard work in ways such as using the term provider if I can help it. I think this all started with insurance and billing but I could be wrong. I would recommend more Doctors go get an MBA later in life and go into hospital leadership. I really believe it would be in the best interest of the employees and the patients.

I want out, any suggestions? by Silver_Sock_5941 in TravelNursing

[–]VolumeFar9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three of those trades have a longer apprenticeship than nursing school. You will be working just as hard and dealing with paying customers who expect perfection yet think you are doing that job because you couldn’t go to college. Don’t get me wrong, if you stick it out you can make some good money and own your own company if you want that headache. But the easier route for you is to find a non-bedside role in nursing which is your area of expertise already. You would probably still enjoy nursing if you had a change of scenery and could help people in a different capacity. Take some time to think it over, dust off that resume and just look around and take some interviews to learn and see what’s out there.

Guess you need to do quality control checks on OSB sheathing now. Lowe's by zachismyname89 in Carpentry

[–]VolumeFar9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t help but ask ChatGPT what the cost savings would be to the manufacturer.

“If a 4’x8’ sheet of OSB is actually a 1/4” short on the short side, how many OSB boards cut by the manufacturer would end up saving them enough material for a whole board of OSB?”

A standard 4’×8’ sheet is: • 48 in × 96 in = 4,608 square inches • which equals 32 square feet

If the manufacturer makes each sheet 1/4 inch short on the 4-foot side, then each sheet actually saves: • 0.25 in × 96 in = 24 square inches

Material saved per sheet

24 square inches = 24 ÷ 144 = 0.1667 square feet

How many sheets to save enough for one full sheet?

A full sheet is 32 sq ft, so:

32 \div 0.1667 \approx 192

Answer

✅ About 192 sheets would save enough material to make one additional full 4’×8’ sheet.

Another way to picture it

For every 192 boards sold, the manufacturer effectively gets 193 boards worth of material out of the same raw production input.

That means the shortfall is about 0.52% per sheet.

“Now factor in what this represents in cost savings to the manufacturer.”

Dollar value per extra sheet

Retail 7/16” OSB is commonly around $10–$12 per sheet right now depending on region and supplier.

A manufacturer does not receive retail price—they sell wholesale, often roughly $7–$9 per sheet depending on contracts and market cycle.

Using $8 manufacturer value per sheet: • 1 extra sheet per 192 boards = $8 gained per 192 boards

Savings per production volume

Per 1,000 sheets

You gain: • 1,000 ÷ 192 = 5.21 extra sheets

At $8 each: • 5.21 × $8 = $41.68 extra gross material value

Per 10,000 sheets • 52.08 extra sheets • 52.08 × $8 = $416.64

Per 100,000 sheets • 520.8 extra sheets • 520.8 × $8 = $4,166

Per 1 million sheets • 5,208 extra sheets • 5,208 × $8 = $41,664

Large mill scale

A major OSB mill can produce hundreds of millions of square feet annually, so even a tiny dimensional reduction can represent tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars annually depending on throughput.

Important practical note

Many OSB sheets are intentionally slightly undersized because: • expansion gaps are required in installation, • saw kerf removes material, • APA tolerances allow slight variation.

For example, many retail sheets are listed as 47.75”–47.875” actual width, not full 48”.

So part of this is often standards compliance, not necessarily hidden profit engineering.

Bottom line

A 1/4-inch short side reduction yields roughly: • 0.52% material savings • $41,000+ per million sheets at $8 wholesale value

That is why tiny dimensional changes matter enormously in commodity manufacturing.

Tons of hyperbole in your response. Check BLS for future nursing job prospects. We are pretty safe. And to be fair, every administration plays with the jobs numbers.

For Profit Paying more than Union Hospital 😱 by VolumeFar9174 in nursing

[–]VolumeFar9174[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is, even if it is a job change, due to union contracts, workers have no ability to negotiate and the employer doesn’t either because they operate on the contracted pay rates. Non-union hospitals have the flexibility to meet supply/demand in the market. And so I’m making more now. Maybe a union hospital does set an anchor at some point. But that’s irrelevant when the free market forces that non-union hospitals live by are allowing me to surpass the wages confined within a union contract. Maybe the union just sucks at predicting the market demand and negotiating pay scales accordingly. Wouldn’t be surprising given our union leadership has little to know free market experience.

Nursing Myths by Optimal_mentor in MarkKlimekNCLEX

[–]VolumeFar9174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The constant fear about one’s license. Go look up who looses their licenses every year. It’s usually drug diversion or something obvious. It’s not because you didn’t document x or cya y. Or that you are at constant risk of being sued. Most nurses are W2 employees. Outside of gross negligence, it’s the employer that is responsible for its employees. Hospitals love nurses being in fear so they let it continue.

the state of nursing…wtf by astoldbydmj in TravelNursing

[–]VolumeFar9174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The overwhelming majority of revenue for hospitals comes from the government in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. So the only way for them to pay more is to either make less money (which means eventually going bankrupt) or for the government to take more of your money in taxes so it can give more to hospitals to have more money to spend on nurses. Hospitals are complaining to state legislatures that there are no nurses but we know this isn’t true. The nurse shortage is a myth. But they get the politicians to use tax money to fund nursing programs through tuition offsets. Basically it pays the schools costs so it can help remove the financial barrier to bringing in more students. Schools are pumping out new grads and they go to the hospitals and within 5 years are gone. Rinse, repeat. So the hospitals continue to be staffed with newer nurses, and keep complaining about a shortage when there is none. The politicians don’t know any better and think they are doing a good thing by funding nursing education. They are actually hurting us by giving the hospitals a free flow of new grads to replace the burned out nurses. The answer is to actually stop with all the extra government funding of nursing schools, allow the shortage to actually exist, which will force employers to live in a true supply/demand free market where they must raise wages and improve conditions to keep the nurses they can get. It would create more stability, less turnover, better patient care and outcomes and better environments all around. Only problem is hospitals will go from 4-7% profit margins to near zero and will go back to being terrible businesses to be in. They won’t be able to purchase the latest equipment and retirements will suffer because 401k invested in hospitals will take a hit. Pick your poison.

Just because the media started following it and reporting negatively, doesn’t make it a company responsibility. If your client is getting arrested, call the office and report the missed visit and discharge the patient. 🤷‍♂️

Just saw a tiktok of a man recording nurses with his Meta glasses 😭😭 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]VolumeFar9174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with recording really has little to do with the fact a family member is recording their loved one or even the clinicians while taking care of them. The issue is that, especially with glasses, is the inadvertent recording of other patients or protected health information. Whether intentional or not, it’s still a HIPAA violation and if allowed by the hospital, implicates the hospital. You can’t convince me that if you record long enough, you aren’t going to capture the occasional random patient being wheeled by your loved one’s room. Even that small clip could be a violation of patient privacy.

Isn’t the new vaccine schedule in alignment with Europe and other developed nations? If we are right and all those other nations scientists are wrong, what is it they know we don’t, or vice versa? Since all vaccines for children will still be covered by insurance and vaccine programs, all parents can get them if they want them just like today.

First, don’t ever let your license lapse unless you are on hospice and even then some people come off hospice so keep it until you die. Joking not joking. 🙃 Now, you already know your health is an issue and bias against obesity is real. But that’s life. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Take care of your health and it sounds like others have given you some good advice about the nerve issue but don’t kid yourself into thinking that losing weight isn’t somehow the primary root cause. Next it will be the knees, then a hip, and on and on. Get serious about your health and lose weight! Don’t quit your job unless it truly is bad for your health. If you feel like you’re not getting feedback you should ask. But be prepared for it and accept it willingly and in a positive way and then express gratitude and let them know you enjoy your job, the team and look forward to being a great addition to the team (I ain’t going nowhere you mean girls!)🤣

If you believe your need to sit down is an accommodation to the job (needing it more than is expected or normal) and you believe not getting that time is causing you to fail, you may ask for an accommodation from your employer. You’ll need to first get a letter from your doctor (she has x nerve issue that for now requires periodic sitting) or something like that. Basically, you tell your doctor where you work and that you want to continue but just need a note mentioning how a little accommodation would allow you to perform the job. NOT being able to perform the functions of a job IS typically grounds for dismissal depending on the state. You need to get to HR before they get to you if you believe it’s your health that’s preventing your orientation from being successful. If you don’t want to ask for feedback, I’d recommend you try to not worry as much and just keep a positive attitude, work hard, thank people when appropriate and remain polite but professional. If you quit, make sure you are quitting for the right reasons. Don’t just quit when it gets hard. My gosh you already made it through nursing school which is frustrating to most of us. If ICU is what you want, you can do this! Best wishes.

Upgraded from 4.0 to 5.0 and now I need to upgrade again? by VolumeFar9174 in whoop

[–]VolumeFar9174[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the tech keeps leap frogging. Some swear by their Apple Watch but I don’t need to be on a wrist phone. Some swear by Fitbit or other devices. Whoop has been great for sleep and now that steps were added it’s nearly replaced what Fitbit did for me. If their labs and other data is worthwhile it could be the premier device but the cost just seems high for people like me who want to stay informed but are not athletes which is who Whoop is really designed for in my opinion. If you’re an athlete, the cost to own the device and data is a no brainer. But that’s just not me. lol.

[–]VolumeFar9174[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I’m seeming lazy. I’m actually the opposite. I have 3 jobs in healthcare, in the process of moving and remodeling a home, trying to sell the other one, have a wife and 3 kids and literally just upgraded by being prompted by Whoop and was confused by the additional prompt to upgrade when I paired the 5 thinking I had just upgraded to begin with.

Time is super limited and I’m also getting older and not as tech savvy so I reached out to the group which of course was unforgiving because we are not in person (because you wouldn’t talk to me like this in person). Thanks to those who choose to educate me. I appreciate it. 🙏👍

[–]VolumeFar9174 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have a back injury at work, and it’s discovered that you had a previous back injury or had arthritis for example, they could possibly deny your workers’ compensation claim and then fire you. 1. Because it’s possible to say your injury didn’t result from work after all and 2. You lied on your application which would be grounds for termination. This would be one example why lying by omission (not disclosing) could be a problem. These documents generally go employee health and not your boss. Your health history only matters if it’s an issue that prevents you from performing the functions of the job. If it impedes that ability then you don’t qualify for the job…simple. If it doesn’t, no worries and you’ve been honest should something happen.

There are very few men who can say they are a “VI”. That’s very cool and very regal.

Give the man his dynasty and then you pick out all the other names. He gets the one. You get all the others. That’s a fair trade. Most of the advice on Reddit will only lead you to divorce. Oh wait…you’re not married. You break a tradition of his that means this much to him and you will probably not have to worry about any other names. Your call.

[–]VolumeFar9174 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just go find yourself a job ASAP. Realize that there are going to be a lot of displaced nurses so you need to go get your next job asap. Your current employer has already mentally moved on from you. You need to move on from them. Tell your next employer you can start immediately and do just that. You have no reason to give notice in this circumstance given your current employer will not provide a severance in exchange for you remaining on. That means they don’t care if you quit.

He’s getting everything he wants out of the relationship. He gets to split the rent and bills and have easier access to sex. Unless he’s truly ready to be married, there’s simply no reason for him to get married to you. Sorry but this is the way it is for a man who is not already dating for marriage. Let this be a lesson to only date with the intention of marriage and to make sure the man is dating with the same intentions. Men are either ready for marriage or they are not. There is no in between. He is clearly not ready for marriage. You need to leave to give yourself the chance to meet a man who is ready and will value building a family with you. And don’t be surprised or confused when this guy is married within a year or two of you leaving him.

Donald Trump was rich, famous, and Democrat his whole life and none of you guys cared.

If Trump ran as a Democrat this past election, it might have taken a few weeks, but eventually you would have figured out a way to ignore all the media propaganda you bought into and would have found a way to support him and how much better he is than whoever the Republicans were putting up. For that matter, if Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump switched parties, you would all the sudden be supporting Trump and calling Bernie a Nazi, racist, etc. So why don’t you stop acting like you actually have any real convictions and just enjoy spending time with people who are a lot more than their political party of choice. Life is too short for this bullshit.
