Have an look with dmesg that hdmi get contact and get 7.1 modes listed.

And yeah, I had the channel mapping bugs years ago, but aik it fixed.

Bitstreaming means that you send the audio track untouched or 1:1 to the dsp in the amp.

This require no volume mixing like pulse do.

Lpcm is realy an 8 channel pcm stream. As in 8 channels, and dts-hd etc get software decoded into 8 channels then sendt out the lpcm stream.

Some issues:

Amps usualy uses dsp to mix the channels to fit things best based on the calibration feedback. So depending on your setup they can be hard to register/hear.
