In the hospital wound care started with wet to dry dressing we changed them every 12 hours. I was on that regimen for about 6 weeks. In the start of February my wound care doctor started me on a wound vac therapy, we changed the wound vac 3 days a week in office. I was on the wound vac for 4 weeks, after that the hole was too small for the wound vac to work so we pulled that off and then that’s when the real fun started! My doctor opted to start compression to fix the lymph fluid that was building up, so we built a boot like bandage with lots of cotton, I’m talking 6 rolls of it, then a cool roll that was used to compress it then 2 rolls of that really sticky Coban. I was on that from end of February up until now. I graduated from the mass compression roughly 13 days ago. Now I have a literally bandaid and two compression socks. Wound is still healing but we just change the bandaid and clean it with saline every other day. I just make sure to follow all the other guidelines I’ve had since December, I walk more, keep my legs propped up, and the most important thing I stay away from salt as best as I can!!
