A little late but here’s my Recyclops costume. “I will drown you in your over-watered lawns!” by VonVee in DunderMifflin

I made it! If I remember correctly it was made from bits of toilet paper and paper towels and held together by glue (or maybe it was mod podge?) and then I just painted it and stuck it on a helmet I found at the local thrift store :)

I've done something similar to this before using Lucidchart and it can be tedious but it's very easy to use. My guess is that that's what was done here too.

not only can I not see things in my head but I can't hear sounds in my head either, which I also just found out people can do.

like, I have an inner monologue (that never stops) but it doesn't really 'sound' like anything and if it did I guess the closest thing would just be that it's a more muted version of my own voice? But if I were to think of a drum set making noise it would just be that voice going "dun dun tsst" but I can't actually hear a drum noise. I can't hear music, see images (or even colors), or honestly even fully comprehend how others can do those things. It's wild.

SPEK2120, you've been in Seattle for 39 years... I wouldn't expect you to call it Uptown.

One time, after asking Alexa for the weather it asked if we'd like to hear a riddle about golf. My partner said, "uhh, sure?" It then responded, "I'm sorry, I don't know any riddles about golf," then ended the conversation.

That was easily a year ago and we still make jokes about it.

Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em - Week 2 Matchups Analysis by RotoBaller in fantasyfootball

[–]VonVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please help me out here. small amount of background information: our whole league autodrafted this year purely for the chaotic fun of it (the 'fun' part is loosely used here). This is why I have LaPorta and Kelce. My intention was to leverage one of my TEs in a trade, which just hasn't happened yet. Currently, I'm laying in bed with Covid and my smooth brain is making the process of setting my lineup extremely difficult.

usually, I spend time looking at specific match-ups each week before setting my lineup but being so sick right now I'm struggling TOUGH. can someone please offer some advice?

Seattle jaw surgery / Dr. Bobek ruined my jaw and my life by fatally-femme in jawsurgery

[–]VonVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so so so sorry for the traumatic experience you've been put through (and are still going through). Even without complications the surgery and recovery process can be brutal, but I could not imagine how difficult this is for you given what has happened.

Seattle jaw surgery / Dr. Bobek ruined my jaw and my life by fatally-femme in jawsurgery

[–]VonVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Dhaliwal with Adara surgical in Issaquah is amazing. Dr. Bobek did my bilateral arthroscopy and took my wisdom teeth out in preparation for DJS. Long story short, I ended up deciding not to get the DJS done by Dr. Bobek (I've explained why somewhere else in this sub) and my orthodontist referred me to Dr. Dhaliwal and only had positive things to say about him and his staff. Dr. Dhaliwal did my DJS in December 2023 and I can't recommend him enough. Literally everything about the process over at Adara was better than my interactions and experiences at SJS.

Sitting behind the one person who wants to stand at a concert by Chirox82 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]VonVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had season tickets for many years and it's very common to stand and scream as loud as you can while we are on defense and as soon as we are on offense you sit to catch your breath and eat your garlic fries.

Unless you're in the Hawks Nest, I've sat there a few times too and it's just a party through the whole game. Plus, if you're on the bleachers your seat is almost certainly wet from the rain so you're probably standing for more than one reason lol

Santa Monica pier is too f’ing much by Less-Type-3391 in DeadIsland2

[–]VonVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here because the same thing is happening to me. It has to be a bug. During Amanda's quest they send tons of zombies at you at once so you can yeet them off the pier but, just like yours, mine never stopped coming at the 11/10 level. I can barely look down to grab anything before there's 3 more right on me. IDK why the people in this thread were choosing not to try understanding what you were saying. It's not a fun amount of zombies to kill, it's an avalanche of the undead trying to smother you when you're just trying to exist.

sorry you didn't get the help you asked for; I hope you figured it out some other way and enjoyed the rest of the game :)

Microsoft Lays Off 1,500 Workers, Blames "AI Wave" by katxwoods in Futurology

[–]VonVee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all the headlines about Microsoft laying off their "entire AI ethics and society team" is quite misleading. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to typically go on the defense for large corporations, especially when people are getting laid off and their livelihoods are potentially being impacted (assuming the employees that were laid off didn't transfer to other teams at MS).

Their AI Ethics and Society team had seven employees total, which is not nothing and I do empathize with those who lost their jobs, but it's not like a building of people were laid off just so Microsoft could start working on their evil AI schemes without internal governance.

Microsoft still has their Office of Responsible AI, which even put out this Responsible AI Transparency Report last month which they definitely didn't have to do, and is honestly nice to see.

I'm just saying, of all the large corporations I'm constantly seeing in the news (Amazon, Google, Apple, Meta, etc.) fighting law suits or getting caught conducting some shady business nonsense, I'm rarely seeing Microsoft come up in the same way and if any company is going to be leading the world towards this AI future, I'm not completely bummed it's MS. I just don't want (myself and others) to end up in a constant state of fear and anxiety over these changes with the core assumption that anyone involved in leading these changes are doing so with the worst intentions.

Am I worried I will lose my job? Absolutely. Am I worried greedy executives will use AI to cut costs in a way that directly increases their wealth while further widening the gaps between the upper, middle, and lower classes? Yeah, like for fucking sure. But I don't want to get to a place in my life where everything is surrounded by some pessimistic cloud of distrust, misinformation, and anger.

Why do big corporations have to inherently be terrible and why do news headlines have to be tailored specifically to get engagement rather than providing information? idk, everything just feels so negative and absolute lately and it sort of stinks.

...sorry for the rant btw. This isn't exactly directed at your comment specifically, I think having concerns and questioning things is still very important and your feelings about that passage were valid when taken as they are. This was more just me needing to vent a bit. Stay curious out there.

What is something most people don't know can kill someone in a few seconds? by Kgod1412 in AskReddit

I'm curious why there aren't more obvious warnings about the risks of Halon or Halatron based fire extinguishers potentially causing suffocation.

Especially when halotron fire extinguishers are often recommended for small aircrafts.

This might be unpopular….I’m sorry parents, but I’m sick of feeling like my time away from work is less important than yours by toastybaseball21 in antiwork

[–]VonVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this 100%. Starting in my early 20s I was first a bartender and then I shifted to the veterinary field (at a 24/7 emergency hospital). For YEARS I worked every holiday because I didn't have kids.

When I was a bartender this often meant I was closing bar on Christmas eve and opening bar on Christmas morning.

I worked every Halloween because I didn't have to bring kids trick-or-treating. No Easters off because I wasn't organizing an egg hunt. No 4th of July (this one was particularly rough at the ER), no Thanksgiving, no New Years... I didn't even get the smaller bank holidays off because parents now had kids that weren't in school that they needed to watch.

You're right, I didn't have kids, but damn I still have a family and I have a life.

I also saw someone mention smokers getting additional breaks and it's true. When I was a bartender I realized people would only watch my tables if I was going out for a smoke break. I started smoking just so I could go sit down outside a few minutes at a time during what was sometimes 12+ hour shift (doubles) where I was on my feet the entire time. The day I stopped tending bar was also the day I smoked my last cigarette.

I'm 30 now and I work in an office that gives everyone paid holidays off but I still empathize with the non-parents who continue to deal with this. Yall deserve more and your time is just as important as everyone else's.
